What is investing? Investing involves buying and selling investment products.
Investment products are things such as shares and bonds,
which are bought and sold on exchanges. The value of
an investment product depends on various factors,
including supply and demand. If the demand is greater than
the supply, the value of the investment product goes up.
If supply exceeds demand, the value falls.
By investing, you may be able to get a higher return on
your money than you can by saving. However, investing
involves more risk than saving.
Know what you’re investing forBefore you start investing, it’s important to be clear about
a number of things. What are your financial circumstances?
What do you aim to achieve by investing? How much risk
can you afford to take? How much risk are you inclined
to take? How much knowledge and experience of investing
do you have? Every investor should think those questions
over carefully.
Minimise the risk by spreading your investments Investing always involves some risk. However, you can
keep the risk down by having a varied investment portfolio.
Take your time Patience is a virtue, especially when it comes to investing.
The period that you invest for is called your investment
horizon. The longer your investment horizon, the bigger the
chance that there will be good years to make up for any
bad ones.
Learn more about investingIf you’d like to learn more about investing, we advise you
to check out the Investors Academy (Beleggers Academy,
just in dutch) – ABN AMRO’s electronic learning environment.
The Investors Academy has interactive learning modules
about investing for both new investors and those with
more experience. To see what the Investors Academy can
offer, visit abnamro.nl/academy
When you invest, you incur costs. Details are available
from abnamro.nl/tarievenbeleggen and are also given on
the Fees Information Sheets.

2. Investing with Advice
Do you prefer to talk to an expert before making your
investment decisions? If you do, the best option is likely
to be Investing with Advice. With this type of investment,
we give you advice that is tailored to the risk profile you’ve
chosen. You can either talk to your advisor or check out our
advice on line. Either way, it’s always entirely up to you
what you do with our advice. Turn to page 9 for details.
3. Let the Bank Invest For You
Do you like the idea of investing, but feel unsure about
making your own investment decisions? And do you have
more than €100,000 to invest? In that case, we suggest
that you leave the management of your investment
portfolio to our experienced and professional portfolio
managers. They will take good care of your capital and
actively manage your assets. Active management involves
maintaining a careful balance between the various asset
categories (equities, fixed income, property and liquidities)
within your investment portfolio and adjusting the mix in
line with the latest market developments. In that way, they
ensure that your investments always reflect your chosen
risk profile. Turn to page 11 for details.
Know what kind of investor you areIf you plan to start investing, you should first decide what
kind of investment options investor you are. ABN AMRO
offers several ways investing:
1. Self-directed Investing
2. Investing with Advice
3. Let the Bank Invest For You
Within those three basic approaches, there are various in-
vestment options. We’d be pleased to help you choose a
way of investing that’s right for you. This booklet describes
the investment options that we offer.
Ways of investing
1. Self-directed Investing Are you at home in the world of investing and do you like
to follow your own route? Do you have experience of
investing and would you like to invest independently, on
your own initiative? Are you happy to manage without
our advice, so that you keep the cost to the minimum?
And do you prefer to keep your investments under your
own control? If so, Self-directed Investing is probably best
for you. With Self-directed Investing, you submit your own
orders. We provide you with extensive and up-to-date
investment information, which you use to play the market
in the way you choose. With Self-directed Investing, you
chart your own course. Turn to page 8 for details.
6
Get a good return by taking opportunities and managing risks.
Costs and returnsWhen you invest, you incur certain costs. Sometimes your
costs can reduce what you earn considerably. Investing
always involves risk. It is therefore very important to think
carefully about whether investing is something you should
do, or continue doing. For some people, saving is a better
option.
Your investor profile What risks can you afford to take and what risks are you
inclined to take? To help you consider, visit abnamro.nl/
beleggersprofiel and complete the investor profile
questionnaire. Or call in and go through the questionnaire
with one of our advisors. The questions relate to:
▶ Your financial circumstances: your income and capital
▶ Your investment goals: what you want to achieve
by investing
▶ Your attitude to risk: how much risk you can afford
to take and are inclined to take
▶ Your knowledge and experience of investing
From your responses, we can determine your risk profile
and get a picture of your knowledge and experience.
ABN AMRO has a suitable risk profile for every investor.
If investing is the right thing for you, you will be able to
choose from six risk profiles, ranging from very defensive
(low risk) to very offensive (high risk) and everything in
between. Your risk profile is matched to your circumstances
and forms the basis for your investment decisions.
7
Calculate your expected returnIf you’d like to know how much money you can expect
to make by investing, or how much you need to invest
in order to get a particular return, visit
abnamro.nl/rendementscalculator Our Return Calculator
provides neutral, optimistic and pessimistic forecasts of
how the value of your investments may develop.
Self-directed Investing Within Self-directed Investing, we offer two options:
Self-directed Investing and Self-directed Investing Plus.
With both variants, you invest independently, without the
advice of an advisor. If you take an interest in investing but
don’t require background and analyses, Self-directed
Investing may be right for you. Or perhaps you feel at
home in the world of investing and like to follow your own
route, checking the indexes and doing your own analyses?
Then Self-directed Investing Plus may be the better option.
With Self-directed Investing Plus, you have access to
My Dealing Room (Mijn Dealingroom): a personalised
digital environment, where you can follow the prices and
perform technical analyses. Using My Dealing Room helps
you to respond quickly to developments in the financial
markets. With Self-directed Investing Plus, you receive
extensive price data and a range of useful tools.
If you choose Self-directed Investing, you pursue
your investment goals on a purely independent basis.
Where and when it suits you.

investment goals with us at your side. And you can always
be sure of help and advice from our experienced advisors.
Advice options Our Investing with Advice service offers you five options.
Depending on how much capital you are available to invest
and how actively involved you want to be, you can choose
from Profile Fund Investing, Fund Advice, Fund Advice Plus,
Investment Advice or Investment Advice Active. With Fund
Advice, Fund Advice Plus and Investment Advice, our advice
can be provided through your advisor or made available on
line. Whether you act on our advice is up to you. Your advisor
will help you make sure that your investments match your
chosen risk profile. The five options of Investing with Advice
are outlined below.
1. Profile Fund Investing
With Profile Fund Investing, the minimum investment is
just € 1.000 or € 50 per month. If you take this option, your
available capital is optimally divided across four asset cate-
gories: equities, fixed income, property and liquidities. The
category mix is aligned with your personal preferences and
circumstances and always matches your risk profile. Six
Profile Funds are available, corresponding to the six risk
profiles.

2. Fund Advice or Fund Advice Online
With Fund Advice, you receive personal advice about the
investment funds operated by the best fund houses in the
world’s various economic regions. The advice can be
provided through your advisor or made available on line.
You use the advice you receive to help you choose about
ten investment funds that match your risk profile. Once a
month, we review your investment portfolio to make sure it
is still consistent with the policy that we advise. And, where
appropriate, we send you investment proposals. However,
it is also up to you whether you adjust your portfolio as we
advise. Your advisor will always discuss your investment
portfolio with you at least once a year. We recommend
Fund Advice to clients with more than € 25,000 to invest.
3. Fund Advice Plus or Fund Advice Plus Online
With Fund Advice Plus, you receive personal advice about
the investment funds operated by the best fund houses in
the world’s various economic regions. Fund Advice Plus
works on almost the same principles as Fund Advice.
However, Fund Advice Plus is intended for clients with
€ 100,000 or more to invest in an average of fifteen funds.
With Fund Advice Plus, portfolio reviews are arranged at
least twice a year. Our advice can be provided through
your advisor or made available on line.
