Name of the festival refers to one of the most significant Slovenian artists of the 20th century – Srečko Kosovel (1904–1926). The Golden Boat is in fact the title of a volume of his poems, which, due to premature death, were never published. Kosovel’s poems (konses and integrals), following the avant-garde trends in art (constructivism, dadaism, futurism or surrealism) had a significant impact on contemporary Slovenian art. His appeal that humanity should become a value again is still gaining on being topical.

In the year 2012, a sustainable Polish-Slovenian cooperation in the field of culture has resulted in two book publications of Slovenian poetry in Polish translation: a bilingual edition of Srečko Kosovel’s poetry, Kalejdoskop. Izbrane pesmi/Wiersze wybrane, and selected poems of Iztok Osojnik, Spodnie na niebie. This year, the Polish readers have the opportunity to get acquainted with a contemporary Slovenian writer Maja Novak in a novel Karfanaum, czyli as killed (translated by Wojciech Domachowski; published by Instytut Mikołowski & Stowarzyszenie Triglav-Rysy 2013). The book shall be presented in the frame of the festival.

In the festival, the work of the following Slovenian artists shall be presented: a novelist Maja Novak, a poet and literary scientist Alenka Jovanovski, a poet, novelist and essayist Iztok Osojnik, a songwriter, poet and writer Matej Krajnc, a painter and graphic artist Alenka Koderman, and a translator and writer Tatjana Jamnik. They will appear in the company of their Polish and Czech colleagues: Agnieszka Bedkowska-Kopczyk, Agnieszka śuchowska-Arent, Renata Putzlacher, Monika Gawlak, Katarzyna Bednarska, Kamil Szafraniec, Maciej Melecki, Krzysztof Siwczyk and others.

This year, in the frame of The Golden Boat Festival, the 10th International Translation Workshop in Bielsko-Biała shall be held from 19th to 20th October, with the participation of the above-mentioned authors. Lectures on topics related to literary translation shall be presented at the workshop.
