BMA Contractors is a local based company that are looking to grow their client base and to keep providing services to meet the decent homes standard and social housing with monthly performance targets of between 96% - 100%. Written policies and the policy decision-making process of the organisation are covered in this element of the Safety Management System; these include the selection of resources and information, the design and operation of working systems and the design and delivery of products and services.

This document is the written policy of BMA Contractors Limited, creating a foundation for the Safety Management System and to fulfil its Health & Safety responsibility to its employees and others affected by their operations/ tasks, within the spirit and to the letter of the law.

The objective of the BMA Contractors Limited Health and Safety Policy is to prevent, insofar as it is reasonably practicable to do so, during the course of the work or duties being undertaken, any accidental occurrence resulting in:

• Injury to any person.• Damage to, or loss of any plant, equipment, property, materials or products.• Delays in any processes or operation.• Events that may otherwise be detrimental to efficiency and/ or prestige.• Adverse impact upon the environment.

The Policy is applicable to all BMA Contractors Limited Employees, as detailed in Part Three of this Section, and all persons whose presence is necessary at BMA Contractors Limited premises, construction sites or any other workplace. This includes the Employees of Specific Sub-Contractors if and when engaged, Self Employed Persons, if and when engaged and Consulting Design Practices.The application, Implementation and promotion of the Policy shall be the responsi-bility of the Managing Director of BMA Contractors Limited. Whilst duties and tasks may be delegated, the overall responsibility remains that of the Managing Director to ensure that the Company compiles with all relevant statutory health and safety legislation, common law and Approved Codes of Practice.Individuals can make important contributions to the development and implementa-tion of policies and arrangements.BMA Contractors Limited will give all opportunities for participation in this process and actively encourages involvement of Employees either directly or through their representatives.To ensure that this Policy can be successfully implemented, the BMA Contractors Limited and its Board of Directors will provide such funds as is reasonably neces-sary.Suitable and adequate measures shall be taken to safeguard any person, plant, equipment, property, material or product likely to be exposed to any known or suspected hazards associated with or arising out of the processes, tasks or Opera-tions being undertaken.BMA Contractors Limited will take into account at tendering stage, those factors which assist in eliminating injury, damage and waste.Adequate provision shall be made for the Welfare needs of Employees whilst carrying out their tasks and duties and any hazard to health associated with the work shall be the subject of strict precautionary measures. This is further detailed within Section Two of the Health and Safety Policy.

The control documents and methods used to plan and control construction activities are principally:-

• Construction Phase of the Project Quality Plan, identifying the management structure and quality procedures applicable to each project.• Overall works programme schedules, representing the timing and sequencing of the works elements. Regular monitoring of the progress achieved against planned by controlled scheduled audits.• Inspection and Test Plans (ITP), which identify the key activities, samples, documentation and approvals necessary prior to commencing a particular construction activity.• Method Statements used to translate project requirement into planned systems of work instruction to project staff and operatives.

All the project is implementing by a system of self-certification by means of inspection; testing and monitoring controlled by the Engineering Staff with verification by the Client where necessary. All material and work shall be subject to interim and final inspection or test to check conformity to specification prior to final acceptance in accordance with the relevant Procedure(s). The records created shall demonstrate the self-certification process.All the documentation and records provide objective evidence of the work of the Company. In the majority of cases it will be in the form of photographs, but can also be in paper form e.g. letters, reports, minutes etc. Records shall remain legible readily identifiable and retriev-able. All records must comply with all relevant legislation including the Data Protection Act and the Freedom of Information Act.

Records of work currently in progress are kept in controlled designated areas and are appropriately identified for ease of storage, protection and retrieval. Irrespective of

the form in which the information is held it is subject to the requirements of the Public Records Act and must be handled appropriately.

Environmental Policy and its Management.

OBJECTIVE:The objective of BMA Contractors Limited is to run its operations avoiding unneces-sary or unacceptable effects on the environment.Any effects will be minimised as far as practicable.Environmental considerations will be given equal importance similar to that of tradi-tional business issues such as production, research, sales, and finance. BMA Con-tractors Ltd will work towards achieving its environmental objectives by:

IMPLEMENTATION• Minimising the impact of all BMA Contractors ltd Operations on the local and global environment and the quality of life of the local communities in which the Company operates.• Meeting all relevant statutory regulations.• Maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of premises to the highest practical Standards.• Aiming for efficient use of all resources used in its designs Operations and by reduction of waste through process improvements.

WASTE MANAGEMENTAllowing for the recycling of material wherever feasible and taking further positive steps to conserve resources, particularly those that are scarce or non-renewable.Fully considering, in advance where possible, the environmental effects of any significant new development and adjust the Company's plans and approach to design work accordingly.Providing customers with the information necessary to enable our designs to be properly implemented and used, stored and disposed of so as to avoid unacceptable effects on the environment.Working with suppliers to ensure that the products and the services they supply are environmentally acceptable.Providing the necessary information to enable Employees to operate the processes properly and with minimal effects on the environment.

Duty of Care by all Employees regarding Environmental, Pollution, & waste management

The duty of care under the Control of Pollution (Amendment) Act 1989, Environmen-tal Protection Act 1990 and Controlled Waste Regulations 1992 is recognised by BMA Contractors ltd during the undertaking of its works and is met with by the follow-ing basic principles:

a) Preventing anyone keeping, depositing, disposing of or recovering our 'con-trolled waste' without a waste management licence or an exemption from the need for a licence.

b) Stopping materials escaping from our control or the control of anyone else by packaging it appropriately.

c) Ensuring waste is only transferred to an authorised person. Making sure that a person or business is authorised to deal with our particular type of waste.

d) Ensuring that the waste being transferred is accompanied by a written description.

that will enable anyone receiving it to dispose of it or handle it in accordance withhis or her own Duty of Care.

Where BMA Contractors Limited conduct works, which may have an effect on the environment, careful planning will be implemented to reduce the risk of pollution.

POLLUTION POLICY

BMA Contractors Limited recognises most pollution incidents are avoidable, and the measures to avoid pollution are included at the planning stage of all Contracts under-taken by BMA.The pollution Policy of all Clients will form part of the control strategy undertaken by BMA in reducing pollution and where required additional Risk assessments will be carried out to ensure that task related operations carried out by BMA reduce pollution and affects caused by any operation or task undertaken by BMA Contractors.

BMA Contractors Ltd, seek to provide a service which is polite, friendly and helpful to ensure that whatever operation or task BMA undertake are completed quickly and to the satisfaction of the Client, Principle Contractor and most importantly to the Cus-tomer.

Communication between the Customer and BMA is most important with regards to giving the Customer the attention and delivery of service particularly when undertak-ing fit out operations with regards to Kitchens and Bathrooms.

Regular day to day contact with Customer issue as it relates to any operation and/or task being undertaken by BMA as smoothly and efficiently as practicable.

All staff and Operatives are instructed, trained and briefed to avoid the following:-

• Rudeness• Excessive noise• Over familiarity• Arguments• Express any opinion about other repairs or decoration issues• Parking vehicles in driveway, pathway, grass verges, which may cause nuisance to any Customer• Untidy appearance when visiting Customer homes, or attending the Clients or Principle Contractors Offices.

Discrimination

It is the duty of those employed by BMA to be courteous and carry out any operation or task with regard to BMA equal opportunities policy, particularly in acts of unlawful discrimination, derogatory, racist or sexist remarks or harassment to any member of the public, or engaged in the employment of BMA, or to any person employed by the Client, Principle Contractor or Customer, whilst undertaking any operation or task.

Discrimination of any kind, including interaction of any person not speaking English, as their first language, will not be tolerated and will be dealt with under Disciplinary procedures, set by BMA.For some of BMA Client, Principle Contactors or Customers, English is not the first language, therefore this matter has to be carefully considered and managed, and where there might be a difficulty in communication, then this issue shall be reported to the Manager of BMA immediately.
