Theprimarypipeelement(kingpile)carriesthelateralforcefromsoilandwaterandisalsoabletocarryhighverticalloadsaspartofthefoundationsystem.

Theroleoftheintermediarysheetpileconsistsoftransferringtheloadsontothekingpiles.Theyare,therefore,generallyofreducedlengthtosaveweight.
