With so much happening this term please keep an eye on the school calendar and any permission notes that are sent home. We started our Project ‘To Infinity and Beyond’ with a visit to the Planetarium. Students experienced a 360 view of outer space, travelled to planets and flew among the Milky Way. The students had so much fun and their inquisitive minds meant we came back to school with so many questions and insights. The students and teachers are excited learn all about this semesters project. The students thought the Planetarium visit was a great launch experience, but they were again taken by surprise when a UFO crash landed on our back oval and Miss Mahony was taken captive. The students needed to complete a range of STEM activities and gain puzzle pieces to complete a circuit. The students used their collaborative, imaginative, creative and reflective skills and made electrical circuits, parachutes, rockets, music tracks and catapults. Everyone had a fantastic day and designed some excellent items. Some of our students comments about our Project Launch: Jarrid ‘this is the best day ever’, Aliesha ‘I loved everything about it’, Kydan ‘I saw the spaceship leave’ ‘The UFO landing on our playground was really amazing and the Planetarium was really informative’ – Shania ‘The Planetarium was very entertaining, and then when I first found out about the alien landing, I was like ‘what’s going on?’ And then I loved the rest of the day” – Cameron ‘The activities we did were very unique, and I am very impressed with how we built a parachute, rockets, and catapults’ – Neo ‘The experience was exquisite. The alien landing was my favourite part’ – Zac ‘I loved the project launch. The Planetarium was amazing, and the alien was funny’ ‐ Aliki Term 3 Week 2 Achieve with Pride 2 nd August 2019

Responsible Pet Kathy and her puppy will visit our school again on Wednesday 7th August. The responsible pet program teaches students from K‐3 how to be safe and respectful around dogs. Change of Term 3 Staff Development Day (Pupil Free Day) Several of our public schools in the Singleton Learning Community will be undertaking Professional Learning together on Monday, 12th August, from 9am to 4pm. This professional learning is called Visible Wellbeing. The keynote speaker, Professor Lea Waters is a positive psychology expert in regards to education, organizations and parenting. Professor Lea Waters has devoted her time to help people thrive using the science of positive psychology. Our schools are striving to create positive wellbeing across our communities, and to strengthen our partnerships with the Where There’s a Will foundation. Because of the availability of Professor Lea Waters in coming to the Singleton Learning Community, our schools have had to rearrange our Staff Development Days. In Term 3, students will return to school on the first Monday back, 22nd July, and then our school will be closed on Monday, 12th August, Week 4, so staff can attend the Visible Wellbeing workshop. A small amount of administrative staff will be onsite during this day. We apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause, but we are giving our communities plenty of notice about this, in preparation for the change

Bilbies Class News Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring! Launching into the project ‘What’s on Earth and Above’, the Bilbies will spend the semester investigating the seasons and day and night. Recently we learnt about shadows. When asked what they thought shadows were, these were some of their responses: ‘Mine follows me everywhere!’ ‘Mine goes to sleep at night’ ‘Oh my gosh, I’ve never thought about it, they’re creepy’

The Bilbies have been smashing their learning goals, learning how to kick a soccer ball, read and write using a bossy ‘e’ (cake, skate, bite) and subtracting using a mental strategies and a number line.
