JDRF Organizes Another Successful Walk! Hats Off to our Wonderful Walkers!

Fall means it’s time for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes and this year was no exception. Walkers and team captains were invited to begin the season at three well-attended kick-off celebrations – Boomers in Medford, the Long Island Children’s Museum in Garden City and the ever-popular Adventureland in Farmingdale. Congratulations! If you’re reading this, you’ve most likely dodged the bullet and survived the worst of the recession. Six months ago when I last commented on the econ-omy, the world and the economic conditions on Long Island were substantially different from where they are today. Most of the astute business people, irre-spective of their industry, have made hard decisions over the past two years. Those decisions have im-pacted their bottom line, primarily through cost-cutting initiatives and holding the line on expense increases. Today, it is my opinion that it is time for businesses to start to refocus on the top line, and start growing their companies’ revenues. Many current indicators reflect positive growth coming sometime in 2010, although many businesses may not see growth until 2011 or 2012.

Some proven ideas to stimulate your top line: 1. Reintroduce yourself to your networking community 2. Make a call to your advertising or marketing company 3. Revisit the basic business practices that were instrumental in your initial success 4. Reestablish your position as an expert in your field I have learned over the past four decades in business that the macroeconomic issues cannot be changed by your individual business initiatives. You can only focus on the micro issues that you can control within your sphere of influence. As of today’s newsletter, the macroeconomic cur-rent has certainly slowed down, making it easier for the individual business to swim against the current. All things considered, the crispness is in the air, the frost is on the pumpkin, Thanksgiving is around the corner, and we can all be thankful that we’re here for another year. Good luck in the coming year! Ted Weiss CEO, T. Weiss Realty Corp.

VHB Hosts Huntington YMCA Youth at Islander’s Game

T. Weiss Welcomes the Following New Tenants:

In celebration of the New York Islanders “Kids Day,” VHB recently hosted a group of youngsters from the Huntington YMCA to see the Islanders take on the Los Angeles Kings from VHB’s corporate suite at the Nassau Coliseum. The event is part of VHB’s commitment to supporting youth organizations, like the YMCA, that teach positive values, prevent boredom and anti-social behavior through supervised programs in aquatics, sports, recreation and arts and cultural activities. Seen in the photo is #39 Diana Soldano, an Associate with VHB along with New York Islanders Jack Hillen, Nate Thompson and Frans Nielson and several children from the Huntington YMCA. VHB is affiliated with Watertown, Massachusetts-based Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. — an 800-person firm that provides integrated transportation, land development and environmental services from 18 offices along the east coast. Engineering News-Record ranks VHB 84 of the Top 500 U.S. Design Firms and among the Top 50 Transportation Firms in the Nation. CE News magazine consistently ranks VHB among the Best Civil Engineering Firms to Work For in the U.S. For more information, visit www.vhb.com. Their offices are located at 2150 Joshua’s Path in Hauppauge.

LexisNexis Cares  LexisNexis was proud to sponsor a LexisNexis Cares event on September 3, 2009 at the Head Start Freedom Center in Huntington Station, NY. The building had previously been used as a nursery school, but had been vacant and untouched since April, 2009. It was run-down, overgrown, and horribly filthy! Suite 124 at MCC II, 330 South Service Road may have been empty that day, but we were all hard at work! The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the facility was held on October 30, at which time LexisNexis donated school supplies purchased with money raised by the employees. As we did last year, LexisNexis will be participating in the Island Harvest Tur-key and Trimmings campaign from November 9-19 (food pickup is 11/20) and from December 7 - 18 (food pickup is 12/21). Ours was a successful campaign last year, due in large part to the generosity of the other tenants at 330 South Service Road. I would like to invite you to participate with us in this worthy cause again this year.
