A LEVEL RESULTS 2009

164 pupils at Bromsgrove School sat 522 A levels this year and, remarkably, almost 60% of all grades were A, with a third of all pupils scoring three or more straight As. 84% of all grades fell into the A/B bracket, while the A to E pass rate was 99.8%. Local Head boy Alex Harding achieved four straight As and will join many other Bromsgrovians at Oxford next year. Some subjects achieved 100% A and B grades (including disciplines as diverse as Geography, Latin, Music, Drama and ICT) and strikingly high A grade percentages were recorded by Maths, Further Maths and Art.

For the first time ever, Bromsgrove had a few pupils taking BTEC alongside A level, and all achieved 100% double distinction (equivalent to two A levels each at grade A). Sadly, these brilliant results cannot appear in A/B league tables and attendant percentages. In the Lower Sixth, 64 pupils (a third) gained the equivalent of at least four As at AS level.
