    Introduction

    Bronze Commissioning Valves

Water RegulationsMany Hattersley CommissioningProducts are Water RegulationsAdvisory Scheme (WRAS) Approved.

WarningBalancing a system requires theconnection of manometer probes tolive pressure test points.

Under no circumstances must a LTHW,MTHW or HTHW system becommissioned at operatingtemperature because of the danger ofserious injury.

*This recommendation is given byCIBSE in their commissioning CodeW.

This publication describes theHattersley range of products availablefor the manual balancing of waterdistribution systems.

The British Standard BS7350 relatesto double regulating globe valves(DRV) and flow measurement devicesfor heating and chilled water systems. It includes one valve and two valvecommissioning products and the tableoverleaf relates Hattersley products to the types and definitions given in BS7350.

AccuracyBS7350 details the accuracy to whicheach device must conform andHattersley products conform to theselimits of accuracy.

BSI KitemarkMany Hattersley products bear theKitemark approval and this is shownon the relevant data pages.

Commissioning Setsmetering station and a close coupleddouble regulating valve. It is normallyfitted in the return line of the system, however, it will perform equally wellin the flow section of pipework.

The metering station, containing anorifice, is fitted with test points sothat the pressure drop across theorifice can be measured. This pressuredrop is relative to a flow which hasbeen determined by practical testing.

Commissioning sets, which are the number one choice, provide a 5% accuracy and should beinstalled in straight pipe with aminimum of 5 diameters uninterrupted upstream length.

Variable Orifice DoubleRegulating Valves (VODRVs)An alternative to one valvecommissioning sets is the use ofVODRVs which are double regulatingvalves fitted with test points.

The VODRV is an economic choicewhere an accuracy of 10% or higheris acceptable.

Compression Ended ProductsIn the following pages, productssuitable for use with 15mm copperpipe are shown. Care must be takento use the flow charts forcompression ended products whencommissioning with these valves.

Flow ChartsAll Hattersley commissioningproducts have been extensively flow tested and flow charts are readily available.

Valve SizingThe correct sizing of valves cannot beover emphasised if balancing of waterdistribution systems is to besuccessfully achieved.

With valve sizing, consideration mustbe given not only to flow rate, butimbalance to be removed. The movetowards smaller fan coil units and lowflow rates in 15mm pipeworkrequires a commissioning set capableof measuring and controlling theselow flow rates whilst keeping thevalve at least 25% open.*

The Hattersley range is specificallydesigned to handle low flow rates in15mm copper pipework.

BS7350When fitted to measuring devices andstrainers, test points are supplied withcap retainers in red and blue forupstream and downstream portidentification. This meets therequirements of BS7350.

Test ProbesThe application of a silicone lubricantto the probe shaft prior to insertionis recommended.

Test points are available in eitherstandard length, figure 631, orextended length, figure 633, boththreaded 1/4 BSP (Tr).The extendedlength test point requires special testprobe available from Hattersley.

Test points are fitted with green capretainers when supplied in convenientblister packs:-

Strategically placed test points allowaccess to live fluid systems forpressure and temperaturemeasurements. Maximum temperatureis 120C and maximum pressure is3450kPa. Suitable for Chilled Water,LTHW and MTHW.

The single piece DZR copper alloybody houses a uniquely designedelastomeric core providing excellentsealing performance and wearresistance.

Double sealing on the cap is providedby precision metal to metal jointingbacked up by a resilient "O" ring, allowing convenient, positive finger tightening.
