The 2015 Senator Allen J. Ellender Alumnus of the Year recipient, Dr. Henry, “Hank”, L. Eiserloh III ’84, was honored Sunday, March 8th at the Hyatt New Orleans. In attendance to honor Dr. Eiserloh were his wife, Renée, and daughters, Estelle, Grace, and Mary. Also in attendance were members of the extended Eiserloh and Bergeron families, many friends and classmates and school administrators.

Hank is an orthopedic spine surgeon

with Baton Rouge Orthopedic Clinic. His specialty is the treatment of spinal disorders in athletes, spinal trauma, and degenerative conditions.

Hank continues to support Brother Martin High School as a sponsor of the Brother Martin Golf Tournament and President’s Dinner. He was instrumental in starting the “Class of 1984 Scholarship” and has served on his class reunion committees.

24th Annual Brother More Schaefer Award Ceremony

James “Jimmy” Gatti received the Brother More Schafer Award at the annual Faculty Recognition ceremony in January. Bro. Neal Golden ’57 CJ and Nick Lagattuta ’71 were recognized for 40 years of service to Brother Martin High School. Kieren Aucoin and Kelly Wild were recognized for 20 years of service. Jay Romig ’72 received the Founders Medal for his generosity and service to Brother Martin High School. Jay’s father Jerry Romig, Sr. received the Founders Medal in 2003.

Jimmy Gatti earned a Bachelor of General Studies Degree in 1987 from Louisiana State University. His first year out of college, he worked for his family’s construction business. He worked at two local neckwear companies over the next fifteen years, holding management positions at both companies, before joining the faculty of Brother Martin in August 2002. Currently in his 13th year at Brother Martin, he has taught Health and PE and Religion to 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. Outside the classroom, Jimmy was an assistant coach for basketball, football, track and wrestling, Junior Service Coordinator, faculty moderator of Student Council and taught Science in the Summer Enrichment program

for many years. Post Katrina, he was fortunate enough to drive a Brother Martin school bus, round trip, bringing displaced Brother Martin students and a few girls from Metairie and LaPlace to Brother Martin High in Baton Rouge. Jimmy continues to live and teach the charism of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart to his 7th grade Religion students and as faculty moderator of intramural athletics and tennis. Jimmy and his wife Diane are active parishioners of St. Catherine of Siena, and they have four children, Sean and his wife Jessica Robicheaux, Kayla and her husband Brandon Boughrara, Kelli Gatti and James Gatti, Jr.

President’s dinnerBrother Martin High School held its 9th annual President’s Dinner at Windsor Court Hotel. Cocktails preceded a five course meal with music during the cocktail hour provided by Paul Boquet ’01. Alumni Board President, Kraig deLanzac ’86 led the prayer before the meal. Joe Caruso ’79 welcomed guests. John Devlin, President of Brother Martin, thanked the Gootee Family represented by Ashley and Ben Gootee ’01, for sponsoring the President’s Dinner. He also thanked committee chairman P. Lindsey Williams ’83 for initiating the discussion which resulted in this annual event. Mr. Devlin also commented on the Capital Campaign. Since 1994, the school has completed two phases of the campaign which resulted in the $6.2 million Thomas F. and Elaine P. Ridgley Fine Arts and Athletic Center (1999), the $7.5 million Roland and Macy Paton Meyer Science and Mathematics Building (2007), and the $3.2 million James B. Branton Chapel (2011), as well as the establishment of eight named endowments and several new scholarships. Day at the RacesCloudy weather couldn’t dampen the Crusader spirit at the 4th annual Day at the Races at The Fair Grounds in early March. Over 100 members of the Brother Martin community attended the event which featured a buffet in the Black & Gold Room with private betting windows, a balcony to view the races, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and a “Winner’s Circle Raffle”. Lucky winners were able to view the 4th race from the track and took a picture with the winning jockey.

Oil & Energy RoundtableThe Crimson & Gold Network hosted an “Oil & Energy” Roundtable in December in The Terrace. Engineers, industry suppliers and consultants and an engineering student met to discuss the many facets of the oil and energy industry. Jeff Teague ’91, VP at GNO Inc., explained how they are working to lure industry personnel to the area as well as create a quality pool of candidates here in the New Orleans area. Brian DeJean ’01, manager at Keystone Engineering, discussed the changing demographics in the field of engineering. Thomas D’Gerolamo ’12, a junior at LSU majoring in Engineering, sought advice and opportunities for future employment. This initial meeting was a success and the group plans to meet again. Perryn Olson ’99, president of The Brand Constructors, a construction brand marketing & design firm, spoke at the Crimson & Gold Network social in mid-March. “Grow Your Career

& Business with Personal Branding” was the theme of his presentation. Perryn discussed how he furthered his career and generated revenue for his company through personal branding.

He discussed branding companies & key people, building your own brand, niche marketing and content marketing, and how each of these can grow your salary and company’s revenues. He recently published his first book, Construction Executive’s Guide to Brand Marketing. Kenny Spellman ’84 gave a brief update on the state of the CGN, attendees introduced themselves and raffle prizes were awarded. Dean Pigeon ’06 and Pigeon Caterers provided delicious food. Good weather, delicious food and drinks and competitive tennis ensured a successful 2015 Brother Martin Tennis Tournament at U.N.O. on March 20th. The “Parade of Prizes” provided attendees chances to win hotel stays, restaurant gift certificates, tennis lessons and various other gifts. The 50/50 sent a lucky winner home with some extra cash. Champions were awarded spectacular gifts in ten Ladies’ Divisions and four Men’s Divisions. The Men’s draw included 20 teams, the largest in tournament history. Chris Dazet, Tennis Director at Metairie Country Club, served as tournament director.

Wrestling Lettermen ReunionMembers of the Brother Martin wrestling community attended the Brother Martin vs. Jesuit dual meet and a reunion in December. The Crusaders defeated Jesuit 43-17. After the match, wrestlers, family and friends gathered at The Bayou Beer Garden. The State Championship teams from 1985 and 2000 celebrated anniversaries, 2-time State Champion Manny Sala ’46 made his usual appearance and current wrestling parents joined the festivities along with Coach Rob Dauterive ’84.

Crimson Shield SocialPast recipients of the Crimson Shield Award gathered at Parkway Bakery in December for a social. The Crimson Shield Award recognizes students who strongly represent a specific characteristic of a Brother Martin Crusader. Alumni shared stories while enjoying delicious complimentary po-boys and sides. The Brother Martin soccer community gathered on Saturday, January 17th for the annual Alumni Match and Reunion. Coach Dennis Panepinto ’81 led Team White against Coach Judy Rodriguez and Team Crimson. Team Crimson scored a goal in the last seconds to tie the match at 3. After a five-minute overtime, the match was declared a draw and everyone headed

Soccer Reunion & Alumni Match

Basketball Lettermen ReunionMembers of the Brother Martin basketball community gathered for the inaugural Alumni Basketball Game in December in The Conlin Gym. Coaches Bill Gallagher ’71 (Team Crimson) and Tommy Smith ’71 (Team Gold) drafted teams earlier in the week and lead their teams into battle. After a sluggish start, Team Crimson, led by Bryant Boudreaux ’14, jumped out to a 15-

point lead midway through the 1st half. Team Gold, led by Ryan Brock ’05, used an 8-0 run to begin the 2nd half to grab their first lead of the game. It was a lead they wouldn’t relinquish as Team Gold won 64-53. Ron Brisbi ’67 SA, Milton Dureau ’69 CJ and Brian Incraprera ’14 served as game officials assisted by clock operator Jeff Hotard ’14. Bryant Boudreaux ’14 won the 3-Point Shooting Contest, James Farrelly ’06 and Scott Lanoux ’77 tied for second. After the game, alumni, family and friends joined the current Crusader team for lunch in The Benson Mall.

2014 Celebration of the Crest

The 2014 “Celebration of the Crest”- Brother Martin Extravaganza, sponsored by the Parents Club, was held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the New Orleans Marriott Hotel on Canal Street. There were 880 Crusader friends who partied in grand style, complete with an ice carving of the school crest, all to the benefit of

the Brother Martin student body. Parents, friends, alumni of St. Aloysius, Cor Jesu, and Brother Martin, as well as faculty and staff enjoyed an evening of great food and drink, music and a selection of almost 300 silent and verbal auction items at one of the premiere hotels in New Orleans.

“It was truly a great night for Brother Martin and everyone associated with the school,” said Development Director Tommy Mitchell ’79. “There is nothing more gratifying than to see our alumni, parents and friends come together as a family and enjoy a great evening in a wonderful setting for the benefit of our young men. I really believe this was one of the best auctions that we have ever had, not only in terms of attendance and financially, but from the community building aspect.”

Holiday Home Tour

On Saturday, December 6th, the Ladies of the Shield hosted their annual Holiday Home Tour featuring six homes in Old Metairie. Our Patron Party hosts Bonnie & Michael Pittman ’79 (Casey ’20) welcomed over 250 guests to their home on Dorrington Blvd to kick-off the tour of homes.

Other homes on tour were Pamela and Stephen Tucker and Lauren and Jordan Eagan ’01 on Dorrington Blvd., Marge and J. Don Garvey ’50, Flo and Ron Alemann and Toni and Tom Causin on Tokalon Place.

A large number of businesses and individuals served as sponsors giving the event a solid start before the doors opened.

“Kraig and Rhen provided great leadership in serving as chairs for the event. The number of parents and alumni who put in a lot of time and energy to come together and make the night a success was tremendous,” Mr. Mitchell said.

St. Michael Special School in the Irish Channel recently reached its 50 year anniversary. On its Founders Day, the school celebrated this milestone, and Catholic Schools Week, with a Mass in the gym followed by a reception in the JOY Center. Crusaders Attend St. Michael Milestone

Member of the Alumni Choir performed at the annual Christmas Concert in December. They performed their own piece, the Mel Torme/Robert Wells “The Christmas Song,” as well as joined the high school choir on “Brothers, Sing On.” All graduates and current students in attendance ended the concert with the traditional “O Sacred Heart.”

The Alumni Association hosted the “Back to the Future: Relive the ’80s Dance” in January in The Benson Mall. Alumni and friends danced the night away as Pat Barbaro ’85 served as DJ. Brother Martin hosted a Lenten Fish Fry on March 27th. Crusader families and friends, as well as visitors from the neighborhood, flocked to the Benson Mall looking for delicious seafood. Plates of fried catfish and shrimp with

coleslaw, fries or mac and cheese and hushpuppies were available along with po-boys. Members of the Class of ’81 boiled and served over 600 lbs. of crawfish. Entertainment was provided by the Crusader Band, the NJROTC

and a Musical Review performed by the Drama Club. Mrs. Debbie Broussard and the Student Ambassadors supervised kid games in the Conlin Gym. Louis Rosiere and Rob Delaune ’95 co-chaired the event. Volunteers assisted and donated items to the event.

Alumni Day of ReflectionDeacon Carlo Maniglia ’69 SA directed the 19th annual Alumni Day of Reflection on campus in March. “Prison Bars: From the Inside and the Outside” was the theme of Deacon Maniglia’s presentation. Part of his ministry is dealing with incarcerated individuals. He challenged attendees with questions about “prison bars” we build in our own

The Easter Bunny arrived at Brother Martin High School for the annual Ladies of the Shield and Alumni Association’s Easter Egg Hunt. Attendees enjoyed crafts and treats in the Benson Mall and games and inflatables in the Conlin Gym. The day concluded with a children’s Mass in the James B. Branton Chapel. Bro. Louis Couvillon, Mrs. Debbie Broussard and the Brother Martin Ambassadors assisted with the day.

Members of the Society of 1869 attended the Brother Martin Lenten Mass and a reception in the Bro. Jean Sobert Alumni and Development Office. The Society of 1869 is a very special group of alumni and friends of Brother Martin High School who have made a Planned Gift to our school. A planned gift is when someone makes Brother Martin the beneficiary of their will, a life insurance policy or a charitable remainder trust. Lacrosse Lettermen ReunionThe Brother Martin 2015 Lacrosse season kicked off this past Saturday at Muss Bertolino Stadium in Kenner with the annual Alumni/Varsity Game. Over 30 alumni participated in the game. The game was tied at halftime 5-5; and at the end of regulation 9-9. Robby Borrello ’13 made a great shot in sudden-death giving the Alumni a 10-9 win.

Baton Rouge Chapter

Jimmy Lalonde ’90 hosted a Pre-Game Party before the Brother Martin vs. Catholic High LHSAA playoff game on November 21st. Alumni, family and friends gathered at Jimmy’s house for jambalaya before heading to the game. The Crusaders defeated Catholic High 25-23 in a thriller to advance to the State semi-finals.

Dallas Chapter The Dallas Chapter will celebrate at a “New Orleans Style’ Party on Saturday, April 25, at 6:00 P.M. at Dodie’s Reef. Dallas alumni and a guest are invited to this complimentary event featuring boiled crawfish, gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice, salad, bread pudding and an open bar. 1972Eric Bloomfield, MD, ’72 Anesthesiology consultant, associate professor of anesthesia at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, visited Brother Martin recently. He spoke to Science classes about his experience as a

Brother Martin student, the medical profession in general and answered questions.

Alumni HighlightJohn Biguenet ’67 CJ, chairman of the English Department at Loyola University, has been recognized as one of Louisiana Life’s “Louisianians of the Year”. He is a contemporary Louisiana author and has won acclaim in recent decades for his fiction, poetry, plays and critical works. John won the national O. Henry Award for his short

story collection The Torturer’s Apprentice. His playwriting includes a series of works about New Orleans’ struggles after Hurricane Katrina, which became a play and received rave reviews. John’s single-character play entitled “Broomstick”,

played at Southern Repertory Theatre in New Orleans and in theaters in New Jersey, Montana and it won an extended run in Los Angeles. His short story “Sand” was published in 2014 by Granta, “Confessions of a Werewolf ” appeared in Spolia, and the quarterly magazine Image published his “Ex Cathedra.” A short film written by John won a bronze award at the 2014 International Independent Film Awards. Since his first novel, Oyster, he’s working on his next book about New Orleans during the first year after Hurricane Katrina. LSU Press will publish his Katrina trilogy of plays – Rising Water, Shotgun and Mold – later this year, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the levee collapse.

Michael Begg ’77 and Barry Lemoine ’81 of St. Bernard Parish have been honored by the 2015 Mountain Film Festival for their original screenplay “Audubon.” It won third place in the Feature Screenplay category,

and was selected from hundreds of submissions worldwide.

1977Mike Begg’s script, THE MILK ROUTE, has recently been recognized for numerous awards including the prestigious Nicholl Fellowship Screenwriting Competition sponsored by the Academy of Motion

Picture Arts and Sciences (ranked in the top 300 out of over 7000 scripts). Mike was a screenplay finalist for the Peachtree Village International Film Festival in Atlanta last September where THE MILK ROUTE was showcased to the festival audience at a script reading. THE MILK ROUTE was chosen as an Official Selection of the 2015 Richmond International Film Festival in the feature screenplay category. The festival received submissions from talented filmmakers and writers across the U.S., and more than 25 international countries. His script was among 104 quarterfinalists, 59 semifinalists and 26 finalists before being named one of the top 10 Official Selections of the festival.

Claude Silverman, of Ericksen, Krentel & Laporte, has been named treasurer of the Association for Corporate Growth of Louisiana.

1981Donald A. Sauviac, Jr. has relocated to Mandan, ND and has been added to the CSA attorney panel for North Dakota. He continues to handle high profile criminal cases in Louisiana.

David Stechmann received a 25th Anniversary Pelican Park “Making a Difference Award” through his time and efforts in making a difference in his community, the Park and in children’s lives. The award was present at

1983P. Lindsey Williams and his son, Mason ’15, became the first Brother Martin father/son wrestling duo to win the prestigious Louisiana Classic (formerly the Lee High Invitational). Mason recently won the 2015 tournament. They are only the fourth father/son tandem to complete the feat in the 42-year history of the tournament.

1984Bubby Burns is President of the Baton Rouge Bar Association, a voluntary bar association comprising roughly 2,600 attorneys from the Baton Rouge area. He has practiced law since 1991 and is currently a full-

time mediator, serving as managing partner at the “Perry Dampf Dispute Solutions” firm in Baton Rouge.

Gene Sausse, owner of BooKoo Bounce, has been elected as a new member of the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce.

1985Jerry Lyons is currently the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Knoxville Division, Federal Bureau of Investigation. Jerry resides in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife and two children. Jerry has previously served with the FBI in Tampa, Washington D.C., Houston and Dallas as Diplomat at the United States Embassy in Moscow, Russia.

Tom Snyder Jr. and Rebecca Fenton Henderson have formed Snyder & Henderson LLC, a law firm in Covington. Snyder & Henderson LLC represents individuals and corporate clients with areas of

specialty in general civil litigation, general commercial litigation, contract analysis and drafting, construction and homeowners/condominium association disputes.

1988Emmett Dupas III, a Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Advisor in Metairie, was recently recognized by PLANADVISER Magazine as one of the Top 100 Advisers in the country. The PLANADVISER

Top 100 Advisers is an annual listing of the retirement plan advisors that stand out in terms of a series of quantitative metrics. He has qualified for Northwestern Mutual’s Million Dollar Round Table Award (2008-14), Top of the Table (2012-14), Prestigious Forum (2010-11) and has been recognized as a Northwestern Mutual MVP for eight consecutive years. Emmett is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.

Scott Simpson has been named head football coach at St. Martin’s in Metairie.

1989Darrin O’Connor has been named partner in the Covington office of Porteous, Hainkel and Johnson LLP. His practice is focused on insurance defense.

1990Stanton Moore, drummer for Galactic, was featured in the Vic Firth Artist Spotlight Interview in October 2014. During his interview, Stanton says he wanted to attend the high school with the best band and drumline,

so his parents brought him to Brother Martin. Stanton attributes his work ethic and incredible talents to Mr. Marty Hurley among many other famous musicians.

1994Ryan Bordenave, Retail Attraction Specialist, Downtown Development District, was one of 33 graduates from the Creating a Better New Orleans Leadership Forum. The forum began in September with

a citywide bus tour, then, continued with ten sessions on specific issues such as Housing, Health Care, Education, Public Safety, Economic Development, and Environment and Coastal Issues. Each session included a panel of local experts on the topic at hand; after their presentations, the participants then engaged in a lively discussion of the issue and its implications for the future of the region. Each year, participants also complete a community

service project in either education or housing, introducing them to volunteerism and often leading to long-term commitments on their part. This year’s education group put on a career fair at the ReNew Charter School, while the housing group volunteered with, and raised donations for, Unity for the Homeless.

1995Jason Hijuelos has been promoted from manager to senior manager in the audit division at Hannis T. Bourgeois LLP in Baton Rouge.

1996Adam Hamilton was recognized as a Google Certified Teacher in December 2014 when he was selected as one of 50 educators, nationwide, to attend The Google Teacher Academy. The Academy is a two-day, intensive

program that provides educators with hands-on experience with Google’s products and technologies. As a Google Certified Teacher, Adam shares what he learned with other educators in the St. Louis area and at national conferences. He serves as the Dean of Applied Sciences at St. John Vianney High School in St. Louis, MO, where he teaches science and coaches football.

Brett Fenasci, partner at Kean Miller, was recognized as a “Leader in Law” by City Business.

Andy LeBlanc and his wife Jill were honored for their fundraising service at the second annual Gratitude: A Celebratory Benefit for the PKD Foundation in Dallas. The Gratitude Benefit is a

special event to raise funds to fight polycystic kidney disease (PKD). It honors those who have made a considerable impact on local PKD Foundation chapters, as well as significantly advanced the work of the PKD Foundation through fundraising and philanthropy. The support of those being honored has allowed the Foundation to make significant strides in the fight to end PKD, a life-threatening disease with no treatment or cure.

1999Gregg Gremillion has been promoted to Group Truck Manager with Enterprise Commercial Trucks. He will oversee the state of Kentucky and South Indiana.

John Jackson has been hired as Director of Outlets for The Maison Dupuy. As Director of Outlets, he oversees menu development and manages restaurant, bar and room service operations, as well as all special events

throughout the hotel.

Chris Nuebel has joined the American Red Cross - Southeast Louisiana Chapter as Major Gifts Officer in charge of corporate partnerships and fundraising. Chris works with companies in the New Orleans, Northshore,

Houma and Acadiana areas to ensure they are prepared for disasters, engaged in volunteerism and successful in community outreach.

Paul Theard and his brother Eric co-own and operate Theard Catering, LLC and Foodie Call food truck. The food truck has won multiple Vendy Awards and has been listed in several publications,

including the Times Picayune, as a top food truck in New Orleans.

2000Ryan Donegan, founder and CFO of Better + Boulder, LLC, a local company run by Millennial visionaries, is leading a group to build a $100 million dollar multi-purpose, mixed-use, world-class health and wellness

2002Derek B. Breaux is a Preparedness Officer with the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and the Air Logistics Branch Manager in the Governor’s Emergency Operations

Center. He completed his Bachelor’s degrees from Loyola University New Orleans, and dual Masters’ degrees from Tulane and Louisiana State University. Derek recently completed his doctoral general examinations and is preparing to graduate next spring (Ph. D.) from LSU’s School of Human Sciences and Education.

Aaron St. Pierre was recently promoted to Director of Landscape Architecture at Lose & Associates, Inc. He leads a team of landscape architects, architects and engineers who specialize in the field of park and

recreation facility design. His team provides services to municipal clients across the Southeast, including Louisiana, where he recently completed renovations to six parks in Alexandria, LA.

2003Drew Haro, assistant track and cross-country coach at Brother Martin, won the Shamrockin’ 8k on March 15th with a time of 25:23.

2004Sean Tate, REACH Program Coordinator, Samuel J. Green Charter School, was one of 17 graduates of the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Emerging Leaders program. The Emerging Leaders program is designed to

foster next-generation leadership. Sean has a Master of Science in Counseling from Loyola University New Orleans and a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University.

2006Brandon Scardigli has been hired as the media relations director by the New Orleans Privateers Athletic Department.

Michael Tatarski is cycling from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, a distance of 1,200 miles, for charity in April. Known as H2H, the annual event includes 20 volunteer riders working to raise money for five organizations that bring education and healthcare to underprivileged children in Vietnam. The country’s cities are modernizing at an incredible pace, but many in the rural areas are being left behind, and H2H strives to provide sustainable aid to some of the most needy. Helping Rebuild in GentillyJacob Peters’06 is the Project and Development Assistant for the Bayou District Foundation.The Bayou District Foundation (BDF), a Louisiana non-profit, was created by a group of civic-minded

New Orleans business and community leaders committed to revitalizing New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Their mission is to design and implement an innovative community re-development model focused on education—one that enables children and families to escape the cycle of poverty, build a thriving community, and live productive, healthy and fulfilling lives. BDF is the non- profit development partner leading the development of Columbia Parc, a mixed income residential community on the site of the former St. Bernard Public Housing Development and surrounding neighborhood adjacent to New Orleans’ City Park. The new residential community provides urgently needed quality affordable workforce housing and local commerce for the community. At the core of the community is a “cradle to college” educational model that meets a documented shortage of quality early education capacity for low-income children. The education model includes an early learning center, Educare New Orleans, which will feed into a K-8 charter school, and public high school. Plans also include a YMCA offering community enrichment programs, which will be located adjacent to the K-8 school. Another key project element is the restoration of City Park’s recreational and golf facilities, which will become an “economic engine” generating sustained funding for community education and enrichment programs. With these housing, education and recreation components fully integrated into the model, the Bayou District is a community unique in New Orleans, with few peers across the country.

2008Casey Keiser, in his first year coaching Cross Country at Holy Rosary High School, helped lead the Bulldogs to a 3rd place finish as a team that included the Boy’s Class C individual champion.

2011Cole Frazier was named the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete of the Day on March 25th. He is a member of the Nicholls State defensive line and will graduate in May with a 3.37 GPA and a degree in

Business Administration. Cole plans to attend law school after graduation.

2012Reuben Druckery is a junior at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis majoring in English and he is a member of the Navy boxing team. He hopes to attend flight school after graduation and eventually fly F-18s.

Reuben recently visited campus while on a recruiting trip for the Naval Academy.

Gerard Roman, sophomore at Wartburg College in Iowa, won the NCAA Div. III Central Regional at 197 lbs. Wartburg three-peated as the Central Regional team champion and Roman has an 18-match winning

streak and leads the team in wins. With the win, he advanced to the 2015 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in Hershey, Pa. He placed 6th and became an All-American for Wartburg College at the NCAA Div. III Wrestling National Championships.

2013Robbie Borrello, a sophomore lacrosse player at Div. III Hendrix College, is 4th in the nation in goals scored and 14th in the nation in number of points (goals and assists combined). He is maintaining a 3.8 GPA and

has set several school records in his short stint at Hendrix, such as, the record for goals in consecutive games (10), the number of points scored in one game (11) and is second on the Hendrix record list with 7 goals scored in one game.

Kyle Delaune placed 4th and became an All-American for Cumberland University at the NAIA Wrestling Nationals.

Ryan Hoefeld, a redshirt freshman at Florida St., has been selected to the All-ACC Academic Football Team.

Jacob Seward, Southeastern Louisiana sophomore outfielder, was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week on March 16th.

Luke Ungarino has been elected Sophomore Class President at Baylor University Student Government.

2014Josh Tapia, a freshman wrestling at Briar Cliff University in Iowa, recorded his first two pins of the season recently and is majoring in Physical Therapy.

1955Brother Maurus Bordelon, S.C. May 25, 1937 - November 19, 2014 Brother Maurus Bordelon, S.C. (Ernest Joseph Bordelon), a Brother of the Sacred Heart, passed away in New Orleans, LA, at Ochsner Medical Center on Jefferson Highway on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at the age of 77. He was a native of Plaucheville, LA and the beloved son of the late Anne Mae Gauthier and Norwood P. Bordelon. He is survived by his sister Barbara Ellen Bordelon. Brother Maurus entered the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in Mobile, AL, in September 1959 and pronounced his final vows on August 27, 1967 in New Orleans, LA. Brother Maurus began his teaching career in

the fall of 1962 at Cor Jesu High School in New Orleans. In 1968, he taught at St. Aloysius High School on Rampart and Esplanade in the Crescent City, and went on to teach at Brother Martin in New Orleans from 1969 through 1974 and, again, from 1980 through 2005. His teaching career over the years also took him to Ascension Catholic High School in Donaldsonville, LA, Menard Memorial Catholic High School in Alexandria, LA, and St. Aloysius High School in Vicksburg, MS. Bro. Maurus also became an instructor at St. Columba’s College in St. Albans, England for a time. In August 2005 a number of Brothers including Bro. Maurus was evacuated to the Brothers’ community at Catholic High in Baton Rouge, LA. Brother was re-assigned to CHS, assisting the faculty until 2013 when he fully retired. In 2014 Bro. Maurus became a resident of Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare in New Orleans, LA and lived there until his death. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Foundation, 4600 Elysian Fields Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70122.

Brother Martin once again claimed the top spot in Louisiana wrestling after capturing its fourth consecutive Division I team title at the 2015 LHSAA State Wrestling Championships in February.The Crusaders finished the tournament with 310 points atop Catholic league rivals Jesuit (270.5) and Holy Cross (269.5). Catholic-B.R. was next with 187 points, followed by Rummel (180), St. Paul’s (164.5) and Hahnville (143.5).Coaches Dauterive ’84, Casadaban ’06, Pierre and Rousselle led the team to the dominant performance. Three Crusaders won individual state titles: Steven Shields ’17 (his second), Yehia Riles ’15 (his second), and Paul Klein ’15 (his fourth). Paul is the first wrestler to win four individual state titles in the “modern era” of LHSAA Division I wrestling.Led by Athletic Director Scott Williams ’90 and Head Coach Robbie Dauterive ’84, the entire Crusader community gathered in the Conlin Gym to celebrate this monumental occasion. Coach Dauterive highlighted individual and team accomplishments for the season before awarding the 14 starters with medals presented by wrestling alumni.

Several juniors in Mr. Vicknair’s American History Class embarked on a field trip to the Chalmette battlefield to learn more about

the final battle on American soil of the War of 1812.

ScienceThe Chemistry classes of Mr. Dossaji, Dr. Jouandot and Mr. Valiente recently stepped into the lab for some holiday magic.

Dr. David Jouandot ’03 and Mr. Alex Coppejans, along with members of the Brother Martin Science Research Team recently traveled to present at the state Environmental Symposium in Baton Rouge.

Computer Science

Students participated in several activities to promote Computer Science Education Week. Our newly formed CyberPatriot Team competed in the State Round of the CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Education Program. Our “All Service Division” team, consisting of NJROTC cadets placed second in the state within the Gold Tier for their category. Also, the “Open Division” team ranked highest in the state for the Silver Tier and finished fourth overall in their category.

Blair Frederick ’16 has committed to play in Baton Rouge for the LSU Tigers. He also received interest from Arkansas,

Stanford, TCU, Dartmouth, Louisiana Tech and ULL.

BasketballVenjie Wallis ’15 was selected to the 2015 Clarion Herald’s Elite Boys’ Basketball Team. He was The New Orleans Advocate’s Player of the Week in January.

Travis Epps ’15 and Drew Lewis ’15 were named to the ExxonMobil/ISC All-Academic Scholar Class 5A Basketball team. The Academic Class/Division Team is composed of all senior student-athletes from their schools class/division who have a grade point average of 3.5 or above.

Bowling

The Brother Martin Bowling Team completed an undefeated season and won the district championship.

CheerleadersHarrison Trepagnier ’15 represented Brother Martin in London over the Christmas holidays where he marched in their New Year’s Day parade as an All-

American for the Universal Cheerleaders Association.

The Brother Martin Cheerleaders took 1st Place in the Large Co-Ed division at the Dixie Regional Championship earning them a bid to the UCA National Competition.

The Crusader Cheerleaders hosted the Alabama and Ohio St. cheerleaders for two evenings in the Conlin Gym while they were in town for the Sugar Bowl.

Cross-Country

The Crusaders finished as State-runner-up completing an excellent season. Paced by Hayden Courrege’ ’18 (4th, 15:53.99), Chace Edwards ’15 (5th, 16:00.14), Mason Williams ’15 (17th, 16:36.37), Myles Ceravolo ’17 (26th, 16:47.77) and Felipe Pelaez ’15 (46th, 17:05.14) finished with 98 points and a second place overall finish. Marco Perez ’18 finished 48th and Benjamin Crowley ’18 finished 68th to finish out the Crusader seven runner.

Courrege’, Edwards and Williams were named to the Louisiana Track & Field Coaches Association Composite All-State teams. Their performances at the state meet ranked in the Top 25 of all competitors in all classifications, earning them All-State recognition.

Football

The Crusader football team ended its season in the LHSAA semifinals after falling to the John Curtis Patriots. The team finished with a 10-3 overall record and a 3-2 district record. Highlights from the season include: first 8-0 start since 2008, first 10 win season in 20 years and first semifinal appearance in 25 years.On National Signing Day, Roderic Teamer ’15 and Brendon Hayes ’15 signed their letters of intent. Teamer committed to Tulane and Hayes signed to play at the University of Central Florida.

SoccerWilliam Thiele ’15 was named the Club Soccer/WGSO Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 26th.

Thiele, Thomas Peters ’15 and Danny Spring ’15 played in the LHSAA All-Star Game, helping the East Team to a 3-2 victory at Pan American stadium.

Thiele and Miles Francis ’16 were named to the 2015 All-Metro Soccer Team

Track & FieldThomas Peters ’15 set a new school record and recorded the farthest throw in the state so far this season in the Catholic High Tip-Off. Peters threw 202′ 10″ shattering the previous record by 7 feet.

CampusSt. Joseph’s Altar

Brother Martin displayed a St. Joseph’s Day Altar in the James B. Branton Chapel. The altar was covered with cookies, cakes, breads and “lucky beans”. For supper, Brother Martin hosted a spaghetti dinner in the Benson Mall for any visitors.

Lenten MissionBrother Martin conducted an annual drive to help raise money for the Brothers’ school in Amatongas, Mozambique.

LentenLiturgyOn Friday, March 13th, Brother Martin celebrated a school-wide liturgy for Lent.

3rd Quarter Senior Lunch

The Alumni Association and Student Services hosted the 3rd quarter Senior Lunch in the Terrace.

Rain didn’t keep away the crowds, competition, and cheer as members of the Class of 2015 and their fathers gathered in the Conlin Gym and Benson Mall for just one of many special senior events.

On Friday, March 6th, members of the student body gathered in the Conlin Gym for the Mock Trial hearing that followed November’s Mock Crash event.

Social Justice Mass

The Brother Martin student body and faculty celebrated the annual Social Justice Mass. Father Paul Hart ’70 was the Celebrant. Don Guidry and Michael Cappo ’00 received the Brother Colin Dugas Award. Taylor St. Pierre ’15, Andrew Benfatti ’15 and Travis Epps ’15 received the Judy Stewart Award.

Ten Brother Martin students attended the annual Catholic Schools Week Mass on Friday, January 30, at St. Dominic Church in Lakeview. The Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Gregory Aymond ’67 CJ.

The Brother Martin community gathered in the Conlin Gymnasium to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Father Tony Rigoli of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church located on Rampart Street presided over the Mass.

On Monday, January 19, to honor the life and work of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. and to serve the greater New Orleans community, three dozen Brother Martin faculty members and students joined over 300 other high school students from around the archdiocese to engage in service work sponsored by the Archdiocesan Office of Black Catholic Ministry.

Crusaders are Pro-Life at the annual March for Life gathering in Washington, D.C.

ExtracurricularAcademic GamesIn the final round of league play, both the JV and Varsity Academic Games teams placed first in their respective divisions of On-Sets.

BandMembers of the symphonic, novice and concert bands entertained friends and family at their annual Christmas Concert, held in the Robert Conlin Gymnasium under

the direction of Dominick Caronna ’85 and Chris Bailey ’86.

Chorus

The Brother Martin High School Chorus held its annual Christmas Concert in the Branton Chapel under the direction of conductor Kevin Caparotta ’88.

The Chorus received the Sweepstakes award for straight superior ratings in concert performance and in sight reading in the LMEA District Music Performance Assessment at UNO.

Key Club

Brother Martin served our community this past Thanksgiving by conducting a food drive through the Key Club and religion classes.

LacrosseThe Crusader Lacrosse Teams won Battle-By-The-Beach Tournament in Gautier, Mississippi in February.

NJROTCIn November, Cadets assisted the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund ( JDRF) at the annual Walk for the Cure in Audubon Park.

For Christmas, cadets hosted a toy drive to benefit Children’s Hospital.

Members of Mu Alpha Theta club hoist their trophies after a 2nd place finish in Division 2 at the Catholic High Tournament.

Robotics

The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team traveled to Baton Rouge to compete in the first ever Louisiana FTC Qualifier hosted by Woodlawn High School. Brother Martin’s FTC Team had an amazing showing for a rookie team competing against several veteran teams –winning four out of five qualification matches and reaching the semi-finals as the 4th ranked team overall.

Student Council/ Student Ambassadors

In December, members of our Student Council and Student Ambassadors joined students from Mount Carmel Academy for a day of service with Habitat for Humanity.

StudentsAlan Merida ’19 competed in the Tom Bell Silver Scribe Competition for area high school journalists held at Loyola University. Alan placed second in “Editorial”

and third in “Newswriting”.

Ty Tubbs ’19 spoke about the MLB Urban Youth Academy at an event the UNO Privateers baseball team and Head Coach Ron Maestri, in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy hosted at the UNO Lakefront Arena in November.

Nicolas Chanes ’16 and Dominique Lousteau ’16 were two of the 10 students selected from various New Orleans area schools to represent the area in Washington, D.C. at the annual Anti-Defamation League conference back in October.
