Three social classes:

1. Nobility – Those who fought and governed

2. Clergy – Those who prayed

3. Peasants – Those who toiled with their hands

Although, there were three social classes in the Middle Ages, formal education was limited to the nobility class. Children of the peasantry rarely received any education.

Original sin is the belief you are born with sin and you have to be baptized in order for the sin

to be washed away. It was thought that children had original sin thus they were raised

to follow the bible, especially the Ten Commandments.

What do Kim and Monica think?

1. In the Middle Ages, moral education centered on biblical teachings which included parents modeling appropriate Christian values. Today, it is viewed by many that moral education is lacking in the home and biblical teachings are typically taught in the parochial schools.

2. Although not specifically biblical, moral education is part of the curriculum in both parochial and public schools. For example, FBISD has a weekly character education trait that is taught via Advisory classes.

Most people will probably agree that his contributions led to a more standardized form of

education. Not only is education now available to all social

classes, but people now have a multitude of choices and are also

able to continue their higher education because of the modern

university system.
