A simple way to understand the nature of the index is to think of it as a very large shopping basket made up of all the different kinds of goods and services bought by a typical household in the course of a year
Additions and removals offer good insight into inflation, standards
of living, cultural trends and significant events.

• What are the likely effects of internet shopping on local shops, city centre and out of town shopping?

• Invite someone who has started up their own business in a premises to talk to the pupils.
• Use Shell live-wire video clips
• Invite regeneration staff from the council to talk about business grants
What premises are available to buy?
Is it a business that will/could be affected by internet shopping? If so is it still viable? Is this why it’s for sale?
Is the premises in a regeneration area? If so could I get a grant?

• Your task is to plan a new shop or shopping area, that will be able to compete and/or compliment internet shopping.

Engaging with entrepreneurs – local travel agent to talk about finding best deals, shop v internet sales etc.
Venture - social enterprise simulation, pupils make either radio advert or short filmed TV advert/news report, encouraging ECO tourism. Present to parents with before and after comments to see if viewpoints have been changed.
