Odor Control For Wastewater Pump astewater Pump Stations and Treatment Stations and Treatment PlantsPlants
• THREE STRATEGIES AVAILABLE FOR ODOR CONTROL IN WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEMS AND TREATMENT PLANTS.
• Preclude foul odors from forming by maintaining aerobic conditions in the wastewater.
• Allow the odors to form, draw out the foul gases, and purify with a scrubber or biofilter.
• Treat odors with chemical addition (e.g. iron salts, peroxide, nitrate).
• UNDER STRATEGY NO. 1, AIR INJECTION IS THE PRIMARY CHOICE.• THERE ARE FOUR (4) OPTIONS UNDER THIS STRATEGY.
• Direct injection of air on the discharge side of the pumps.
• Venturi aspirators a. on the high pressure discharge side of the pumps• b. create a recirculation system to aerate the wet well.
• Air lift pumps. This option is generally used in low lift applications.
• U-tube dissolution. U-tube array of piping to produce the aeration.
• OPINION OF PROBABLE COST FOR STRATEGY NO. 1• CAPITAL COST $179,420.00• O & M COST (POWER) AT $0.06 PER KWH. 19,972.80
• OPINION OF PROBABLE COST FOR STRATEGY NO. 2, OPTION NO. 1, WET SCRUBBER
• CAPITAL COST $ 75,000.00• INSTALLATION COST 135,000.00• O & M COST (CHEMICALS) 30,000.00• O & M COST (POWER) AT $0.06 PER KWH. 5,991.84
• OPINION OF PROBABLE COST FOR STRATEGY NO. 2, OPTION NO. 2, BIOFILTER
• CAPITAL & INSTALLATION COST $130,000.00• O & M COST (POWER) AT $0.06 PER KWH. 5,991.84• O & M COST (ADDITIVE) 1,200.00
• OPINION OF PROBABLE COST FOR STRATEGY NO. 3, BIOXIDE• CAPITAL COST $ 25,000.00• O & M COST 309,793.75•

U.S. Patent No. 5,780,293U.S. Patent No. 5,780,293
Findings:• The AGRIMICROBE Formula V microbes extended the time
between replacing the free standing carbon. • Spent carbon from this process can be disposed of in a
sanitary landfill without being classified as a hazardous material.
• Nose test and Industrial Scientific STX Monitor confirmed the site emissions.

Gwinnett County, Georgia – Sanitary Sewer Odor ControlPlaced into operation on July 24, 2004 at the Alcovy Waste Water Pumping Station where the unit operated for approximately 57 days. Norris Lake Pumping Station on December 13, 2004 and operated until January 10, 2005. Site selected to compare unit to existing scrubber.
Augusta, Georgia – Sanitary Sewer Odor ControlWaste Water Pumping Station in on January 12, 2005. Moved to another Waste Water Pumping Station identified with a significant odor problem. Remained in operation for about 2 months or until April 1, 2005.
Town of Cape Charles, Virginia – Sanitary Sewer Odor ControlPlaced into operation on October 16, 2006 at the Air Vac Pumping Station where the unit operated intermittently until February 15, 2007.
U.S. Patent No. 5,780,293U.S. Patent No. 5,780,293
SummarySummary• Odors can be controlled by the following methods:• Air injection to maintain aerobic conditions in the wastewater.• Allow the odors to form, draw out the foul gases and purify with
a scrubber or biofilter.• Treat odors with chemical addition (e.g. iron salts, peroxide,
nitrate).
• Summary for filtercrobe ® • Hydrogen sulfide removal efficiency can be controlled by
– Airflow speed – Carbon bed depth.
• VOC’s listed as biodegradable compounds, will be removed by the microbial product.
• With catalytic carbon in the biofilter, wastewater odor is controlled, specifically for hydrogen sulfide gases.
• Microbe bath section of the biofilter typically is discharged into any sanitary sewer system without violating the permitting.
