This particular configuration was only released in North America and the Philippines. The pink label issue circulates in two different variants; one having the running times printed next to the song titles, and the other one with running times in the right center area. It is most likely that CBS Costa Rica did not have access to a master of the standard Dancing In The Dark non-album B-side, Pink Cadillac, and hence were forced to use another Born In The U.S.A. album track in its place, which resulted in this exclusive coupling. ECUADOR Dancing In The Dark/Working On The Highway Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 133-0091 Year of release: 1984 Packaging: See comments Label info: Dark orange CBS/IFESA paper labels; large center hole Comments: The only documented Springsteen 7 from Ecuador, pressed and distributed by domestic manufacturers IFESA (Industria Fonografica Ecuatoriana S.A.) on behalf of CBS. As was the case in several other Central and South American countries, the choice of another Born In The U.S.A. album track for this singles B-side most likely was due to the company not having access to a master of Pink Cadillac. Both labels feature song titles in English and Spanish. Copies of the record are circulating in a large variety of different die-cut IFESA logo sleeves; including red/white, purple/blue/white, yellow/green/black or yellow/red/black plastic bags and red/blue/beige or brown/blue paper sleeves. FRANCE Hungry Heart/Held Up Without A Gun Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 9309 Year of release: 1980 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Brown plastic-injected CBS labels; large center hole Comments: As opposed to the second domestically-pressed French single, Cadillac Ranch (see below), this 45 was issued with brown plastic labels only. An unknown number of copies included white/red France Disques

jukebox title strips. It is of note that, in addition to their own original issue, CBS France also had pressings of the single imported from Holland, which not only featured standard orange/yellow sunburst paper labels, but also came in a different picture sleeve utilizing the more widespread boardwalk front artwork and a specific rear design (see relevant entry in the Holland discography). Cadillac Ranch/Be True Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 1052

  • Year of release: 1981 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Brown plastic-injected CBS labels; large center hole Comments: France-only release in this form. An unknown number of copies were distributed specifically for jukebox use, with a circular white Rserv Au Juke-Box Vente Interdite Au Public sticker added to the front of the regular picture sleeve. Rear sleeve features an odd, vertically printed photo credit which just reads Photo: X ... (the sleeve shot most likely was taken by Neal Preston). Note the sunburst paper label variant below. Cadillac Ranch/Be True Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 1052 Year of release: 1981 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole The River/Ramrod Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 1356 Year of release: 1981 Packaging: Unique color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Rear sleeve has a typo of Stollen Car in the track listing for the River album. In addition to their own domestic press run, CBS France also had import copies of the single made in Holland, where a misprinted sleeve was produced with a lyric mix-up of The River and You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch) on rear (see relevant entry in the Holland discography). The genuine French version, however, is considerably more difficult to track down than its Dutch counterpart. GREECE Born To Run/Meeting Across The River Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 3661 Year of release: 1975 Packaging: Die-cut orange/white CBS walking eye logo sleeve with Distributed by Music-Box Athens imprint or die-cut grey/black CBS logo sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: The only Springsteen 7 known to have been pressed in Greece. This 45 is so rare that the first photographic evidence of its very existence didnt turn up on the internet before early 2008, when a major Japanese collector (who eventually sold his copy on eBay for $3,926 later the same year) provided pictures of the single to the Lost In The Flood website. The sleeve accompanying this example featured a large red Not For Sale PROMOTIONAL sticker, which was not present on an otherwise identical second copy that surfaced on eBay in late September 2009 and changed hands for only $1,580.55 (despite being in superior overall condition to the first one). A third example offered there in April 2012 (final bid: $3,371) featured a different grey/black CBS logo sleeve similar to the type used in the UK during the 1970s, but adding a specific Manufactured in Greece for

CBS RECORDS OF GREECE S.A. imprint at the bottom. With hardly any solid background information available, it remains unclear to this day whether the single ever saw a proper commercial release on the Greek market, or if it was in fact a promo-only item. Note that the Music-Box rear sleeve imprint found on two of the three copies that have reached the collectors market in recent years refers to an Athens-based record manufacturing company that had distributed CBS Greeces product domestically since the late 1960s and was still in operation at the time of writing. Badlands/Something In The Night Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 6532 Year of release: 1978 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Front sleeve artwork is widely identical to the less common German pressing. Oddly, an unknown number of circulating examples feature slightly enlarged center holes. Misprinted copies exist with the B-side label on both sides of the disc. Badlands/Candys Room Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 6678 Year of release: 1978 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: This incredibly rare export pressing made for distribution in France marks the only release of Candys Room on an official single of any format. Picture sleeve artwork features the same live shot of Bruce

that was also used for the Spanish issue of Badlands, but completely different, unique title graphics. Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)/Night Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 7753 Year of release: 1979 Packaging: Unique color title sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Highly obscure and extremely scarce Holland-only release. Some sources claim that the single was available at Dutch record stores for no longer than about a week and then suddenly disappeared from the market, so it may have been withdrawn (although this is unconfirmed); other rumours suggest that it was pressed in a limited run of just 500 copies to begin with. Both Rosalita and Night also appeared on a (much more common) 12 vinyl EP issued simultaneously in Holland, with the addition of Racing In The Street and a totally different color picture sleeve, which actually marked the very first commercially available Springsteen release on this format anywhere in the world. Bargain bin copies exist with cut sleeve corners. It is assumed that this single was an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the Rosalita live video clip taped in Phoenix, Arizona in July 1978, and eventually distributed to TV stations around the world for promotional purposes the following year (the video of course was later included on Springsteens official Video Anthology home video/DVD releases as well). Hungry Heart/Held Up Without A Gun Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 9309 Year of release: 1980 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve with three different rear designs Rear design variant 1 (domestic Dutch issue): Lyrics to both songs, black-and-white The River LP cover photo/track listing and blue border on left side. Rear design variant 2 (export issue for German market): Lyrics to both songs, black-and-white The River LP cover

photo/track listing, blue border on left side and production credit misspelling John Landan and Friends. Rear design variant 3 (export issue for French market): Straight black background with lyrics to both songs; no LP

cover photo/track listing; no blue border or erroneous production credit. Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: The same Dutch disc with identical matrix numbers (01-9309-2A-I and 01-9309-1B-I, respectively) was used for all three abovementioned sleeve variants. It is of note that, other than the later 7 issue of The

  • River/Ramrod (see below), the export version of Hungry Heart produced in Holland as additional back-up stock for the French market did not adapt CBS Frances alternate picture sleeve artwork utilized for their own domestic pressings of the single, which in this case featured the River album cover photo instead of Joel

Bernsteins boardwalk shot. Two different misprints of the Dutch vinyl exist, with either a blank B-side label or an incorrect one for the Nina Hagen Bands 1980 My Way 3-track 7 EP (CBS 9030), listing the songs Alptraum (edited version) and No Way. The latter variation is particularly rare. Sherry Darling/Be True Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 9568 Year of release: 1981 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Front sleeve artwork is widely similar to the much less common German pressing, although Be True is not mentioned on the domestic Dutch sleeve. The River/Independence Day Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 1179 Year of release: 1981 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Front sleeve artwork is widely identical to the less common German pressing. The River/Ramrod Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 1356 Year of release: 1981 Packaging: Unique color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Export pressing for the French market, although CBS France did in fact manufacture their own copies of this single (with same catalog number and overall packaging) as well. Rear sleeve is misprinted, incorporating two verses from You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch) into the lyrics of The River, and also features a misspelling of Stollen Car in the track listing for the River album (note that the lyric mix-up is not present on the domestic French sleeve, while the Stollen Car typo is). Specially sticker-sealed copies of the imported version were given away for free as part of a promotion offer at French Bata shoe stores in the early 1980s, although such examples rarely turn up on the market. Format: One-sided 33 1/3 rpm flexi disc Catalog number: NONE Year of release: 1981 Packaging: -- Label info: No label; small center hole Comments: Although manufactured in Holland (by Sonopresse B. V., a Rotterdam-based company specializing solely in the production of flexi discs), this item was exclusively available as a freebie to subscribers of Austrian pop magazine Rennbahn Express with their June 1981 issue (which featured a full-color Springsteen cover and an enthusiastic two-page review of the 1981 Munich show), presenting The River as LP of the Month. In addition to excerpts from the four album tracks listed above and a spoken moderation by Blue Danube Radio DJ Brian Taylor, the disc also contains three unique, short live fragments from various US concert radio broadcasts (see below for full details) not found on any other official release. Matrix code SHOL 3136 A (SHOL being the default prefix used for all of Sonopresses flexis) is etched into the run-off groove; note that the CBS 88510 imprint on the disc actually refers to the European catalog number for the River album. Live fragment details:

    1) The late Ed Sciaky (then DJ at WMMR-FM, the Philadelphia radio station that aired a delayed live broadcast of the show that night) introducing Bruce and the E Street Band at The Main Point in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania on February 5, 1975 (edited to avoid Sciakys references to both WMMR and the concert venue itself).

    2) Bruce joking about a recent newspaper picture of him, in which he looked like he was catchin flies, and wondering who takes those kind of shots? This is from the July 7, 1978 show at The Roxy in Los Angeles,

California; broadcast by local radio station KMET-FM.

  • 3) Bruce introducing the band during Rosalita at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, New Jersey on September 19, 1978; the full concert being broadcast by WNEW-FM in New York City.

Point Blank/Ramrod Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 1489 Year of release: Unreleased/withdrawn (pressed in 1981) Packaging: Unique color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: This ultra-rare 7 was reported to have been scheduled as the fifth and final domestic Dutch single from The River, around 1,000 copies of which had already been manufactured before its release was scrapped for unknown reasons and most of the press run supposedly got destroyed. The first photographic evidence of its existence turned up in the Spring 1989 issue (#28) of Backstreets magazine, which featured a black-and-white facsimile of the front sleeve provided to the editors by a Swedish collector. The following year, a surviving physical copy was finally located by brothers Phil and Steve Jump from the UK Badlands Springsteen specialist store at a record fair in Perpignan, France, and eventually auctioned off via their magazine For True Rockers Only for a staggering 1,650 (prices later realized for copies on eBay ranged from $849 to $5,000). Interestingly, the rear sleeves fine print contains a copyright remark for 1982, although its catalog number clearly identifies the single as a 1981 pressing. It is believed that less than 15 of these are now in the hands of collectors. Point Blank/Ramrod Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 1489 Year of release: Unreleased/withdrawn (pressed in 1981) Packaging: Unique color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; small center hole Comments: Somewhat mysterious small-center variant which appears to be a one-off and at the time of writing resided with a collector in the Netherlands. The odd thing about this pressing is that CBS Holland did not start to regularly manufacture 45s with small holes (normally used for export) prior to 1984, leaving its authenticity open to debate. Atlantic City/Mansion On The Hill Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 2794 Year of release: 1982 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Picture sleeve artwork is similar to the Spanish issue. Alongside Spain and the UK, Holland was one of only three countries in the world to release this single, which featured a non-album B-side not available on any other format for the next ten years. Several Dutch copies in circulation have small punch holes in their sleeves upper-left areas, presumably marking them as bargain bin items, while an unknown number were packaged inside die-cut orange CBS HIT logo sleeves instead of the regular picture sleeve. Note that the BRUCE B3 code only appears on the outer sticker, whereas the disc itself is a standard Dutch pressing with regular European CBS 651641 7 catalog number (also imprinted on the picture sleeve). That aside, the two versions are fairly easy to distinguish by the different colors used for the Bruce Springsteen logo on the front sleeve (blue in Holland and pink in the UK). Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL PRO 682 Year of release: 1992 Packaging: Blue/red title sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; large or small center hole Comments: Both sides feature an edited 5:09 version that was later released commercially on the Greatest Hits album as well. Small-center copies presumably were produced for export to the UK. Better Days/Better Days (promotion-only release)

Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL PRO 683 Year of release: 1992 Packaging: Red/black title sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; large center hole Better Days/Tougher Than The Rest (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 657890 7 Year of release: 1992 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; small or large center hole Comments: Small-center pressings were made for export to the UK market, where regular stock copies also saw promotional distribution with specially stickered picture sleeves (featuring the singles release date 11/5 written on the stickers by hand). Note that the two label variations list differing running times for the A-side (4:06 on the small-center version and 4:05 on the large-center pressing). Human Touch/Better Days Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 657957 7 Year of release: 1992 Packaging: Unique color picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; large center hole Comments: Export pressing for the French market. An unknown number of copies came with jukebox title strips. 57 Channels (And Nothin On)/57 Channels (And Nothin On) (promotion-only release)

Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL PRO 691 Year of release: 1992 Packaging: Blue/red title sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; large center hole Comments: Regular LP version on both sides. 57 Channels (And Nothin On) (LP version)/57 Channels (And Nothin On) (Little Steven Mix Version 1 Edit) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 658138 7 Year of release: 1992 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; small or large center hole Comments: Three different picture sleeve designs exist for this 45; with the Bruce Springsteen logo appearing on either the lower or upper border on front (the latter [and by far least common] version was apparently printed specifically for distribution in France, where the [Austrian-pressed] 57 Channels 5 CD single featured the same alternate layout), and an additional UK export variant lacking the white circular Includes Little Steven Mix imprint which is present on the domestic Dutch and French artworks. Small-center pressings also were made exclusively for release in the UK, with a number of stock copies being distributed there as promos in specially stickered sleeves (featuring the singles release date 13/7 written on the stickers by hand). Leap Of Faith/Leap Of Faith (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 658369 7

  • Year of release: 1992 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; small or large center hole Lucky Town/Leap Of Faith (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 658761 7 Year of release: 1992 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; large center hole Comments: Export pressing for the French market. Picture sleeve is similar to the domestic Dutch 7 issue of Leap Of Faith, but features different title graphics. If I Should Fall Behind/If I Should Fall Behind (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 658898 7 Year of release: 1993 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; large center hole Comments: Very rare Holland-only pressing, destined for export to Sweden. It is believed that no more than 100 copies of this single were made in the first place, and even less actually made it into record stores (according to an article in the June 1994 issue of the Dutch Springsteen fanzine Roulette, one Swedish collector reportedly bought more than half of the existing stock directly at the local Columbia depot before the records were distributed, although it is unconfirmed if there is any truth to this somewhat obscure story). B-side was taken from the In Concert/MTV Plugged album. Lucky Town (Live Plugged Version)/Lucky Town (Lucky Town Album Version) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 659228 7 Year of release: 1993 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; small center hole Comments: Issued for export to the UK and several other European countries. On an interesting side note, Columbia/Sony UK went out of their way to promote this release by having Bruces live performance of Lucky Town from the opening night of his 1993 tour at the S.E.C.C. in Glasgow on March 31 professionally filmed and then broadcast on the popular TV show Top Of The Pops the following evening (although that stunt ultimately did little to boost the records domestic sales). A particularly dubious review of the single appeared in the April 17, 1993 issue of British music paper Melody Maker, with a gentleman named David Bennun describing it like this: AH-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Ur-hur-ha-ha (snurf)! Hee-hee-hee! Heh! Heh. Snurk. Heh. Snark. Snore. Streets Of Philadelphia/If I Should Fall Behind (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 660065 7 Year of release: 1994 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; small center hole Comments: Again, the live version of If I Should Fall Behind is the previously released one from In

Concert/MTV Plugged. Streets Of Philadelphia/If I Should Fall Behind (live) (jukebox issue)

Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 660065 7 Year of release: 1994 Packaging: Die-cut black Columbia logo sleeve or plain white paper sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; enlarged center hole Comments: This variant, presumably made for jukebox use, simply is a regular small-center pressing with the hole subsequently enlarged; hence missing portions of the original title lettering on both sides. Secret Garden/Thunder Road (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 661295 7 Year of release: 1995 Packaging: Sepia-tone picture sleeve

  • Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; small center hole Secret Garden/Thunder Road (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 661295 7 Year of release: 1995 Packaging: Sepia-tone picture sleeve or die-cut black Columbia paper sleeve or plain white paper sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; large center hole Comments: Issued for jukebox use. Some copies came with a white jukebox title strip. Murder Incorporated/Because The Night (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 661313 7 Year of release: 1995 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; small center hole Comments: Very limited Holland-only pressing. Because The Night is the previously released version from the Live/1975-85 box set. Hungry Heart/Streets Of Philadelphia (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 662315 7 Year of release: 1995 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia labels; small center hole Comments: Holland-only pressing which - according to a former employee of the domestic Columbia/Sony branch who was actively involved in its production at the time - originally was manufactured in a quantity of 1,000 copies, although no more than 200 to 300 made it to the market, being released in Sweden only (it is unknown, however, what happened to the remaining stock). Basically, this 7, as well as the three subsequent Dutch Springsteen 45s from the mid-1990s (see below), were the work of just two individuals at Columbia/Sony Hollands headquarters in Haarlem, who created the respective sleeve artworks, selected the B-sides, assigned the catalog numbers, and also arranged and oversaw the actual pressing process. Streets Of Philadelphia is a non-album live version recorded at Sony Studios in New York City on April 5, 1995. Hungry Heart/Streets Of Philadelphia (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 662315 7 Year of release: 1995 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve with yellow jukebox title strip Label info: Red Columbia labels; enlarged center hole Comments: This is in fact the regular small-center version described above with a subsequently enlarged hole, made for jukebox use. The Ghost Of Tom Joad/Straight Time (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 662949 7 Year of release: 1996 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; small center hole Comments: Same press run (1,000 copies made) and limited commercial distribution (200 to 300 shipped to Sweden) as the above Hungry Heart single. Straight Time is an acoustic non-album live version recorded at Tower Theater in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on December 9, 1995. The Ghost Of Tom Joad/Straight Time (live) (jukebox issue)

Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 662949 7 Year of release: 1996 Packaging: Color picture sleeve with yellow jukebox title strip Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; enlarged center hole Comments: Jukebox issue with subsequently enlarged center hole. Dead Man Walkin/This Hard Land (live) Format: 45 rpm single

  • Catalog number: COL 663190 7 Year of release: 1996 Packaging: Sepia-tone picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; small center hole Comments: Holland-only pressing limited to a reported 500 copies. It is of note that this single was never available in stores anywhere, but distributed directly by employees of Columbia/Sony Hollands Haarlem offices to private collectors and fan clubs (it remains unclear, however, whether the entire stock was brought into circulation in this manner). This Hard Land is an acoustic non-album live version recorded at Tower Theater in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on December 9, 1995. Missing/Darkness On The Edge Of Town (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 663508 7 Year of relesae: 1996 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; small or enlarged center hole Comments: Holland-only pressing; again limited to a reported 500 copies and not available on the open market, circulated directly via the Dutch Columbia/Sony headquarters. Apparently, large-center examples were never properly manufactured in this form, but rather created off-factory from standard small-center copies later on. For the next 13 years, this would remain the last non-promotional Bruce Springsteen 7 vinyl single ever manufactured anywhere in the world. Darkness On The Edge Of Town is an acoustic non-album live version recorded at I.C.C. in Berlin, Germany on April 19, 1996. Missing/Darkness On The Edge Of Town (live) (jukebox issue)

Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: COL 663508 7 Year of relesae: 1996 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve with yellow jukebox title strip Label info: Red Columbia paper labels; enlarged center hole Comments: Jukebox issue with subsequently enlarged center hole. IRELAND Springsteen Pack: Born To Run/Meeting Across The River (CBS 7077); The Promised Land/Streets Of Fire (CBS 6720); Hungry Heart/Held Up Without A Gun (CBS 9309); The River/Independence Day (CBS A 1179) Format: Set of four 45 rpm singles Catalog numbers: See above Year of release: 1983 (withdrawn) Packaging: See comments below Label info: Red CBS paper labels; small center holes Comments: Rare Ireland-only reissue of four 45s packaged in a clear PVC display wallet with red cardboard header; withdrawn due to several blatant label typos ("Meeting Across The Water", "Head Up Without A Gun", "V. Landay", "Steve Van Landt") and overall inferior vinyl quality. Both Born To Run and The Promised Land came in unique black-and-white picture sleeves, while Hungry Heart and The River featured same packaging as the original UK pressings; all four singles also carried regular UK catalog numbers. Although individual 45s from this set turn up on the market occasionally, they were never issued as separate releases in Ireland with the sole exception of The River (this standalone version, however, was in fact made in England and featured orange/yellow labels rather than red ones [see relevant entry in the UK discography for full details]). The packs original press run was reportedly limited to just 500 copies. Dancing In The Dark/Pink Cadillac (promotional release) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 4436 Year of release: 1984 Packaging: Label info: White CBS promo paper labels; small center hole Comments: Very rare issue. Labels do not feature any promotional markings whatsoever. Note that although this promo is a genuine Irish pressing, regular stock copies distributed in Ireland were imported from the UK. Cover Me/Jersey Girl (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 4662 Year of release: 1984 Packaging: Color picture sleeve

  • Label info: Red CBS paper labels; small center hole Comments: Came in UK picture sleeve. As opposed to its orange/yellow label counterpart (which was manufactured in the UK and then exported to Ireland), this is a genuine Irish pressing. Im On Fire/Born In The U.S.A. Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 6342 Year of release: 1984 Packaging: Color picture sleeve or die-cut black CBS logo sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; small center hole Comments: Genuine Irish pressing. Note that imported copies from the UK (with Made in England imprints in the labels outer rim areas) exist as well. Glory Days/Stand On It Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 6375 Year of release: 1985 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; small center hole Comments: Came in UK picture sleeve. My Hometown/Santa Claus Is Comin To Town (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 6773 Year of release: 1985 Packaging: Cream/black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; small center hole Comments: Came in UK picture sleeve. My Hometown/Santa Claus Is Comin To Town (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 6773 Year of release: 1985 Packaging: Cream/black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Red CBS paper labels; small center hole Comments: Came in UK picture sleeve. War/Merry Christmas Baby (both live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 650193 7 Year of release: 1986 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Red CBS paper labels; small center hole Comments: Came in UK picture sleeve. Some copies had white Promotional Copy Not For Resale stickers added to their front sleeves. Born To Run/Johnny 99 (both live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS BRUCE 2 Year of release: 1987 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Red CBS paper labels; small center hole Comments: Came in UK picture sleeve, which has the bottom left photo of Bruce on front mirror-inverted, while all other pictures are shown correctly. Brilliant Disguise/Lucky Man Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 651141 7 Year of release: 1987 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Red CBS paper labels; small center hole Comments: Came in UK picture sleeve.

  • Tougher Than The Rest/Tougher Than The Rest (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS BRUCE 3 Year of release: 1988 Packaging: Label info: Red CBS paper labels; small center hole Comments: Spare Parts/Spare Parts (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS BRUCE 4 Year of release: 1988 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Red CBS paper labels; small center hole Comments: Came in UK picture sleeve. ITALY Born To Run/Meeting Across The River Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 3661 Year of release: 1975 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Picture sleeve recreates the original Born To Run album front cover artwork, with an additional blurb incorrectly stating, Al Primo Posto Nelle Classifiche Inglesi E Americane (on top position of English and American charts). Some circulating copies feature small triangular holes punched through their sleeves and labels, apparently marking them as bargain bin items. Born To Run/Hurricane (Part I) (by Bob Dylan) (promotion-only release for jukebox use) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS YD 452 Year of release: 1976 Packaging: Die-cut red/white CBS SUGAR walking eye logo sleeve with jukebox title strip Label info: White CBS (Serie Speciale JUKE BOX) promo paper labels; large center hole Comments: Italy-only release. An unknown number of copies originally came with a CBS Sales Promotion Service wrap-around paper sheet featuring song lyrics to Born To Run and the picture of Bruce from the Born To Run albums inner gatefold, although this item is virtually impossible to find with circulating examples (or even separately) nowadays. Prove It All Night/Factory Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 6424 Year of release: 1978 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Front sleeve artwork is widely identical to the rarer Yugoslavian pressing. This appears to be the most common of all commercial Italian Springsteen 7 releases from the 1970s. Badlands/Streets Of Fire Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 6532 Year of release: 1978 Packaging: Unique color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Very rare due to its virtually non-existent original sales. In fact, this 45 did so poorly on the Italian market that unsold copies were eventually given away as freebies with October 20, 1980 issues of domestic magazine Music, which had special white/red Omaggio Music logo stickers added to the front sleeves and A-side or B-side labels (such examples are often incorrectly referred to as promos). Note that some original (non-stickered) stock copies again circulate with small triangular holes punched through their sleeves and labels to presumably mark them as bargain bin items, while another, somewhat obscure (and presumably fake) variant featured a full label cut-out hole on front (similar to the later Italian Hungry Heart, Dancing In The Dark and Im On Fire jukebox promos, although no actual jukebox pressing of Badlands is known to exist). The only versions of this single that can in fact be considered genuine promotional issues are the ones that have

  • purple Disco Campione Non Vendibile (sample record not for sale) stamps added to their regular labels; such copies, however, are extremely hard to find. Badlands/Streets Of Fire (test pressing)

Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: NONE Year of release: Unreleased (pressed in 1978) Packaging: See comments Label info: Blank white CBS promo paper labels; large center hole Comments: A copy of this test pressing housed in the abovementioned, supposedly fake die-cut picture sleeve and featuring white/red Omaggio Music logo stickers on both labels first turned up on eBay in late December 2011, eventually selling for 212/$275. While the disc itself most likely is a genuine item, the presence of the stickers doesnt make sense in conjunction with this particular version of the single, as it appears both unlikely and illogical that Music magazine had access to or use for any promotional/advance pressings (see comments on the recycled Italian stock copies above). Hungry Heart/Held Up Without A Gun Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS 9309 Year of release: 1980 Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Standard stock copies were also distributed as promos in Italy, with the addition of Campione Gratuito, Vietata La Vendita (free sample, not for sale) rubber stamps on the labels. Hungry Heart/Bayou (by The Love Unlimited Orchestra) (promotion-only release for jukebox use) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS/UNLIMITED GOLD JC 15045 Year of release: 1980 Packaging: Die-cut black-and-white picture sleeve or die-cut red/white CBS SUGAR walking eye logo sleeve; both with jukebox title strip Label info: White CBS/UNLIMITED GOLD (Serie Speciale JUKE BOX) promo paper labels; large center hole Comments: A limited number of copies were issued in the regular Italian black-and-white Hungry Heart picture sleeve with a label cut-out hole on front. Some labels were misprinted, featuring an off-center layout that has the CBS logo and other lettering facing too far to the right. It is of note that leftover copies of the red/white CBS SUGAR sleeves were still utilized for Italian jukebox promo releases many years after the company (originally a merger of CBS Italia and domestic label CGD [Compagnia Generale del Disco]) had ceased to exist under that name by 1980. Atlantic City/Mansion On The Hill Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 2794 Year of release: 1982 Packaging: Unique black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Picture sleeve recreates the Nebraska album front cover artwork; a design that was exclusive to the Italian release. Dancing In The Dark/Pink Cadillac Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 4436 Year of release: 1984 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Dancing In The Dark/Holding Out For A Hero (by Bonnie Tyler) (promotion-only release for jukebox use)

Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS JC 15119 Year of release: 1984 Packaging: Die-cut color picture sleeve or red/white CBS SUGAR walking eye logo sleeve; both with jukebox title strip Label info: White CBS (Serie Speciale JUKE BOX) promo paper labels; large center hole Comments: A limited number of copies were issued in the regular Italian Dancing In The Dark color picture sleeve with a label cut-out hole on front, although such examples are very hard to locate.

  • Cover Me/Jersey Girl (live) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 4662 Year of release: 1984 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Front sleeve has an Italy-only imprint of Jersey Girl - Brano Inedito. Regular stock copies were also used as promos in Italy, with Campione Gratuito (free sample) logos punched into the picture sleeves lower right corners and black Disco Promozionale Vietata La Vendita rubber stamps added to the A-side labels. Born In The U.S.A./Shut Out The Light Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 4920 Year of release: 1984 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: By far the rarest of all Italian Springsteen 7 releases from the Born In The U.S.A. era. It is of note that picture sleeves exist with label cut-holes on the front as they were normally utilized for jukebox distribution, although no actual jukebox pressing of this single was ever produced. Also, promo-punched Campione Gratuito versions of the regular sleeve again were made for promotional purposes, containing standard stock copies. Im On Fire/Johnny Bye Bye (test pressing) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: NONE Year of release: Unreleased (pressed in 1985) Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Generic white paper labels; large center hole Comments: Very rare test pressing with plain, completely unmarked white labels and same matrix number as the regular commercial Italian pressing etched into the run-off grooves. This disc was distributed in both the standard Italian picture sleeve and a promotional version of same, with Campione Gratuito logos punched into the lower right corners. Im On Fire/Johnny Bye Bye Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 6148 Year of release: 1985 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Rear sleeve has an Italy-only imprint of Johnny Bye Bye - Brano Inedito. Regular stock copies were also used as promos in Italy, with the same promo-punched picture sleeves utilized for some of the Italian test pressings described above, and black Disco Promozionale Vietata La Vendita rubber stamps added to the A-side labels. Im On Fire/Girls Got A Brand New Toy (by T.X.T.) (promotion-only release for jukebox use) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS JC 15150 Year of release: 1985 Packaging: Die-cut color picture sleeve or die-cut red/white CBS SUGAR walking eye logo sleeve; both with jukebox title strip Label info: White CBS (Serie Speciale JUKE BOX) promo paper labels; large center hole Comments: A limited number of copies were issued in the regular Italian Im On Fire color picture sleeve with a label cut-out hole on front. Im Goin Down/Janey Dont You Lose Heart Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS A 6561 Year of release: 1985 Packaging: Color picture sleeve Label info: Orange/yellow sunburst CBS paper labels; large center hole Comments: Regular stock copies were also used as promos in Italy, with Campione Gratuito logos punched into the picture sleeves upper right corners and black Disco Promozionale Vietata La Vendita rubber stamps added to the A-side labels.

  • Im Goin Down/Alone Without You (by King) (promotion-only release for jukebox use) Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: CBS JC 15155 Year of release: 1985 Packaging: Die-cut red/white CBS SUGAR walking eye logo sleeve with jukebox title strip Label info: White CBS (Serie Speciale JUKE BOX) promo paper labels; large center hole Comments: Most circulating title strips are misprinted, listing Glory Days (which was in fact the only Born In The U.S.A. single not released domestically in Italy) instead of Im Goin Down as the featured Springsteen track. Both songs on this 45 also were part of a rare Italian DJ Special Service 12 promo EP (CBS 12 PRM 069) issued to domestic radio stations around the same time, with the addition of Bancos To The Fire and Appetite by Prefab Sprout, who would later release a Springsteen parody tune entitled Cars And Girls. My Hometown/Santa Claus Is Comin To Town (live) (test pressing)

Format: 45 rpm single Catalog number: NONE Year of release: Unreleased (pressed in 1985) Packaging: Black-and-white picture sleeve Label info: Generic white paper labels; large center hole Comments: Very rare test pressing with plain, completely unmarked white labels and same matrix number as the regular commercial Italian pressing etched into the run-off grooves.
