SEPTEMBER EVENT AT THE BAHAMA HOUSE
The weather was beautiful for the 31 members who went to the Bahama House at Daytona
Beach Shores for a relaxing weekend. Friday afternoon we stopped for lunch at Dixie
Roads Restaurant in Titusville which we all enjoyed. Friday night we had pizza after the
cocktail party. Saturday everyone spent the day doing what they wanted to do. In the
evening we went to Aunt Catfish's for dinner which was a big hit. Everyone enjoyed the
weekend. Hopefully it will be planned again for next year as it is always better at the
Bahama House.

Corvette History
From the 1961 Corvette Sales Brochure - Take a classic sports car. Give it tasteful new styling. That's
Corvette in 1961. Starting with the sleek rear deck, it's clean, uncluttered. From this point forward, it
becomes obvious this new Corvette was designed to be driven. No matter what the occasion - black tie or
tennis shoes - Corvette is appropriate. If you're an enthusiastic rallyist, an about-towner, a countryside
explorer or all three, Corvette matches your mood. Corvette styling was substantially upgraded in 1961.
Although enthusiasts at the time did not know it, they were being given a sneak peak of things to come.
The rear would carry over to 1963, which would be a pivotal year in Corvette history.
The "ducktail" design of the 1961 (and '62) would be known as "transitional" years. The exhaust now
exited below the body and not via an opening in the bumper as in previous years. The four round tail
lights were the start of a Corvette tradition that would continue for more than 50 years. Other changes for
1961: Sun visors, an aluminum radiator, parking brake warning lamp, interior lights and the windshield
washer were standard equipment. The four-speed transmission featured an aluminum case.
1961 introduced a new crossflow aluminum radiator with a separate side-mount expansion tank versus
copper or aluminum radiators as in 1960 models. Some early 1961’s had installed old style radiators as
new design radiators were not available from the beginning of 1961 production. Colors in 1961 were
Tuxedo Black, Roman Red, Ermine White, Sateen Silver, Jewel Blue (one year only ever), Fawn Beige
and Honduras Maroon. Interior options were red, black, fawn and blue depending on exterior color. Soft
tops were black or white. Body colored headlight bezels began to replace the chrome of 1960. Production
for 1961 was 10,939 with 5,680 hardtops sold.
1962 Although it might not be obvious, there were a lot of changes in the cove area for the 1962 Corvette.
The lip that bordered the coves was part of the fiberglass, not a separate trim piece as in previous years.
Without the trim brightwork, it was not possible to offer the coves in a contrasting color. 1962 was the
first year for rocker panel moldings. The simulated vent with three small spears featured in 1961 was
replaced by a separate trim item. One of the biggest changes, of course, in 1962 was the introduction of
the new 327 cubic inch small block available in 250 hp (base motor), 300 hp, 340hp and 360 hp Fuelie
version. Dual four-barrel carburetor option was dropped. Heaters finally became stand in 1962 but, of
course there was a heater delete option (RPO 610). The conventional trunk was dropped and did not
reappear on the Corvette until 1998. Colors available in 1962 were Tuxedo Black, Fawn Beige, Roman
Red, Ermine White, Almond Beige, Sateen Silver and Honduras Maroon. Interiors continued to be
offered in black, fawn and red. 1962 was the last year for electric generators and exposed headlights and
power operated soft tops until 2005. Also 1962 was the first year to have narrow wall white wall tires as an
option. Production for 1962 was 14,531 with 8,074 hardtops sold.
