Hello!
We are now well into November and things here are in full swing for learning,
assessment and the Twilight Market.
Remember that 3-way conferences are on: Thursday 6, Monday 10 and
Wednesday 12 December.
Bookings will open on Friday 23 November at 3:30pm.
Twilight Market Craft
Thank you to all the parents, students and past students who came along on
Saturday for the first of our craft days for the Twilight Market. The positive
atmosphere and enthusiasm of all involved was fantastic. Have a look at the
pictures below to get a sneak preview of some of the craft items that will be for
sale. Remember you can still join in the fun next Saturday and you don’t need
to be an expert. Our parent facilitators are fantastic and you can show how
you are a life-long learner.
Australian Mathematics Competition.
Congratulations to Kevin (Bicicletta) for his fantastic
achievement in the 2018 Australian Mathematics Competition.
Kevin was one of the 115 BEPS students who sat this Maths exam
in August and was awarded an AMC High Achiever Award at a
ceremony on Tuesday 30 October. The other prize winner from
BEPS is Oliver Harper from Il Nido. Congratulations to both of
these students for their participation in the AMC and their
fantastic results.
Congratulations also go to the large number of students (115 this year,
significantly up from the 86 students who participated last year) who set
themselves a personal goal of attempting this exam. It is fantastic to see an
increasing number of students who have attempted this challenge over the
last 5 years. When I started at BEPS only a handful of students were willing to
take this risk. I am really proud of everyone’s courage and effort. The overall
results for this year’s AMC were, 2 students who received prizes, 1 High
distinction (top 0.3% of the state), 21 Distinctions (top 5% of the state), 43
Credits, 40 Proficiency and 8 Participation certificates. The 1, 2 & 3 students
received their certificates at assembly today and 4, 5, & 6 students will receive
them at next week’s assembly.
These are fantastic results and show that students, at BEPS, are willing to take a
risk with their learning and grow. Well done!
Blue for Nauru
On Friday of this week (16 November), students are
encouraged to wear blue to show support for removing
children and their families from Nauru and Manus off shore
detention centres. This day is a student initiative, the clothing
does not need to be anything special – it might be a blue
ribbon, a blue T-shirt or the grade 6 jacket. A gold coin
donation will be collected from any student who would like
to donate and there will be a sausage sizzle after school. All
money raised will go to refugee advocacy agencies.
Important dates this week
• Grade 6 Photo – this Wednesday afternoon (14 November)
• Transition week 2; tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday 13 November)
Have a great week!
Janet

WOODWIND LESSONS 2019
A number of places have become available for students to learn
flute, clarinet, saxophone or recorder at BEPS in 2019. I have been
teaching instrumental music at Brunswick East since 2014 and
believe learning an instrument helps children develop creative,
social, co-operative and musical skills.
Please contact me if you would like further information.
