Celebrating 100 Years in Business
It has been a pleasure to be a part of Greenup County’s Schultz Creek community and serve our customers for a century. Thank you to our loyal customers, friends, and neighbors who have supported us for so many years. Thank you also to the many vendors and institutions who have supported our business for the first 100 years. 1910— A.H. “Huse” and Elizabeth Bryson open store; their son Arthur Howard (“Tom”) is born
1912—Elizabeth becomes Postmistress of Walsh Post Office; second son James Edward (“Jim”) is born
1947—Jim marries Gladys Hannah; from 1949-53 their 3 children are born: Betty, Bob, and Bonnie
1952—New store building is completed
1956– Elizabeth retires as Postmistress and Walsh PO is discontinued by USPS on 4/30/1956. (PO structure inside store remains intact)
1960—Huse dies; Jim takes over operation
1966—Wareroom is added to building
1967—Baseball field is established across road from store, and maintained by Bob to this day. A basketball goal put in store parking lot around same time
1969—Letitia Post Office temporarily located at the store in the old Walsh facility with Gladys Bryson as Interim Postmistress. Letitia PO discontinued by USPS on 5/2/1969
1973—Elizabeth dies
1974 & 1975—Western Greenup County Bicentennial Celebrations held at Bryson Farm
2000—Tom dies
2002—Jim dies; store ownership passes to Gladys, Betty, Bob and Bonnie
2010—100 years in business celebrated
