    Philippines

    The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program prepares students to

    be IT professionals who are able to perform installation, operation, development,

    maintenance and administration of computer applications. The goal of the program is to

    gear up students as information technologists who can assist individuals and

    organi!ations in solving problems using information technology (IT) techni"ues.

    The BSIT program e"uips students with the basic ability to conceptuali!e, design and

    implement software applications. It also provides e#perience in the development of

    office support (word processing, spreadsheet, database and accounting), intranet and

    internet and speciali!ed professional software (multi$media, website development and

    e%ommerce). It also offers bac&ground in mathematical and computing principles.

    The teaching methods used are classroom discussions, practicum e#ercises spent in

    computer laboratories and on the 'ob trainings or internships.

    Is Information Technology a profession

    Information Technology is considered a profession, because the s&ills and &nowledge

    ac"uired in this course are specific and familiar only to those who study this course or

    similar courses.

    hat are the admission re"uirements for the BSIT

    program in the Philippines

    There are no specific re"uirements for this course. *s long as the student is a high

    school graduate, able to submit the necessary credentials+documents, and passes the

    college entrance e#amination and interview, he+she will be admitted in the BSIT

    program.

    Students who were not able to complete secondary level of education have the chance

    to be admitted if they pass the Philippine ducational Placement Test (PPT).

    BSIT is a relatively a difficult course. It re"uires a lot of abstract thin&ing, logical and

    critical thin&ing which are not innate for most people.

    Information Technology course in the Philippines

    4ormally, the BSIT program ta&es 5 years to complete. Schools who apply the trimester

    system re"uire less time to complete this course.

    6n The 7ob Training + Internship

    *s mandated by %3(the official governing body of higher education institutions), on

    the 'ob training is a re"uirement for the BSIT program. The total number of hours set

    for internships according to %3 is 589 hours.

    There is no board e#amination for BSIT.

    Some graduates choose to ta&e the competency e#amination called the %ivil Service

    #amination. Those who will pass the %ivil Service #amination are conferred a civil

    service eligibility, a basic re"uirement for entrance to government service. There are

    many government offices who need the services of Information Technology graduates.

    safeguarding computer database

    computer systems: they may provide instructions over the telephone or assist

    the customer in person

    for organi!ations prior to releasing it into the mar&et

    computer codes and updating lin&s to other websites
