Course Code: ENGL 113 Course Title: English Language for Physiotherapy (I) The first of two integrated courses designed for Physical Education and Physiotherapy majors. Special attention is given to language in real-life scenarios. The course includes extensive integrated skills; such as self-confidence to survive and succeed in professional and social encounters within an English-speaking global community. Course Code: BIOLS 174 Course Title: Systemic Anatomy (1) A lecture and laboratory course in anatomy of human body systems; cells and tissues, integumentary, skeletal, muscular and neural systems. Course Code: CHEMY 106 Course Title: General Chemistry This Subject addresses the most fundamental aspects of the chemistry associated with health and the environment, and measurements of sizes, weights, density, temperature, and conversion units. It deals with the chemistry of the atom, elements, atomic radiation, its applications, and chemical compounds and their constituent links. This subject also addresses the types of chemical interactions/transformations, energy, material and gases, and relations of pressure - volume - temperature and gas laws. Also addresses the topics and types of solutions and the role of water in the living cell and the electrolyte and the types of fluids in the human body, metals and their role in nutrition, acids, alkalis, chemicals and pH. The subject also contains laboratory sessions in selected process. Course Code: PHYCS 104 Course Title: Fundamentals of Mechanics This subject aims to introduce the basics of physics, and includes basic physical quantities and units and measurement laws. It also includes the motion concepts in one or two dimensions such as projectiles and rotational motion. This subject also studies the principles of dynamic motion that include concepts of force, power, energy, momentum, pressure, solid particles rotation, equilibrium laws and their link with sport concepts. Course Code: EDPS 241 Course Title: Educational Psychology This subject concentrates on psychology and its importance, nature, role in the modernization of education. It discuss the subject of educational psychology, research methods in educational psychology, psychological foundations of teaching and learning processes, educational goals and classification in different areas. The subject also discuss the psychology of the learner in terms of growth and individual differences, motivation, multiple intelligences and ways of their development, and evaluation of learning. Course Code: PHEDE 215 Course Title: Introduction to Scientific Research The subject Defines scientific research, its concepts, functions, the nature of educational research and methods (descriptive historical, experimental ... etc.), tools (observation, interview, questionnaire, case study and action research). Course Code: CHEMY 224 Course Title: Organic Chemistry for Physiotherapy This course addresses the most fundamental aspects of organic chemistry processes associated with vitality and health. It includes topics of various organic materials such as saturated and unsaturated of hydrocarbon Derivatives, oxygen compounds and sulfur from alcohols and phenols and oxidation within the body. Organic acids and their derivatives and their role in health and sport. Biomolecules and their role as well as in nutrition, fitness and obesity: carbohydrates, fats, proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, genes, and the relationship of physical and sports performance. Biochemistry of muscle contraction and structural component of muscle fibers. Biochemical pathways and their relationship to the production, transport and storage of energy in the human body and the role of compounds with high energy content in it. Course Code: PHEDE 314 Course Title: Sport Injuries This course aims to introduce the frequent injuries that occur during physical exercises classified by body areas Starting from the head and passing through the pelvis to the feet. It Also confirms on the emergency and life-threatening cases that requires first aids procedures, MRR and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Course Code: PHTY 291 Course Title: Communication Skills This course aims to identify the communication skills with individuals and groups and how to apply these methods to patients. Course Code: PHTY 180 Course Title: Foundation of Physical Therapy This course aims to give students the knowledge, basic skills and behaviors required in the profession of physical therapy. It addresses issues such as what is the meaning of being a specialist in health professions, rules of conduct and patterns of care and classification, underlying determinants of health, physical and psychological, social, communication and documentation, analysis of the movement within the context of health promotion, care and rehabilitation. It is a key decision in which train students the methods of screening musculoskeletal system from physiotherapy point of view , which includes manual measurement of muscle strength and range of motion of the joints in general, as well as to examine ways of textures and activities of daily living. Course Code: PHEDE 213 Course Title: Biomechanics This course includes concepts and principles of bio-mechanics and sports related movements, providing the student with information and a clear description of motion (kinematics) and different shapes (linear, rotational and general), the study of the motion laws for the various activities and projectiles. The course covers the study and the impact of internal and external force (kinetics) on the human body movement-stillness and how to calculate center of gravity and provide the student with information and clear levers and how to use them in different movements. The course includes a definition of concepts and principles of primary cinematography and kinetic analysis of the methods of the technical performance of some sports activities. Course Code: PHTY 286 Course Title: Physiotherapy (II) The Musculoskeletal System (II) This subject is a continuation for PHTY 281.It also aims to introduce the knowledge associated with the role and function of physiotherapy in musculoskeletal disorders from both males and females of all ages. The subject focuses on the evaluation and diagnosis and therapeutic intervention. Course Code: BIOLS 372 Course Title: Human Physiology Anatomy and physiology of Man with special emphasis on the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, digestive, respiratory, excretory, reproductive, circulatory, endocrine and nervous systems. In each case the contribution of the system to general homeostasis will be discussed. Course Code: PHTY 380 Course Title: Pathology for Physiotherapy This course deals with cellular diseases, acute/chronic inflammation, rebuild tissue and blood disorders, oncology and infectious diseases. It also includes diseases and disorders that affect different body systems related to the cases of interest to students of Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy Course Code: PHTY 382 Course Title: Physiotherapy for Special Needs This course deals with the application of various modes of physical therapy for physical and neurological disorders for those with special needs. It also deals with training them for independency in movement and on rehabilitation of injuries and accidents traumas. Course Code: PHTY 385 Course Title: Physiotherapy (III) Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Students acquire in this course knowledge and experience about the roles and functions of the physiotherapist in both males and females of all ages patients who suffer from diseases of the cardiovascular system. The focus is on the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular system. Course Code: PHTY 387 Course Title: Clinical Pharmacology This course deals with the principles of medicine in the treatment of common diseases and surgery and to identify the indications and side effects and dangers of drug use. The focus will be on drugs and drugs used for diseases that require medical rehabilitation, such as diseases of the muscles, joints and nervous system. Course Code: PHTY 481 Course Title: Physiotherapy (V) for Special Populations The focus of this course is exploring the complicated clinical cases involving multiple systems which Physiotherapists come across when dealing with children, adolescents, adults and elderly. The students will have the opportunity to practice advanced skills involving health management and learn different terminologies related to leadership and systems management in different environments. Course Code: PHTY 497 Course Title: Radiology The scope of this course is to introduce the principles of radiological diagnosis and teach them the basic skills of reading the films. It also discusses the different type of radiology diagnosis such as Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Computer Tomography used in the diagnosis and follow up of various cases requiring rehabilitation. Course Code: PHTY 386 Course Title: Posture and Remedial Exercises The scope of this course is to introduce the terms related to correct posture and the times of misalignments and poor posture together with the different methods of testing it. It also involves practical application to the tests used to assess posture and examples of the therapeutic exercises used to treat and prevent the related conditions. Course Code: PHTY 389 Course Title: Psychology of Sport Injury This course aims to teach the students the essential psychological skills related to sports rehabilitation. In addition, it aims to make the students acquire the necessary skills and techniques in dealing and following up with sports injuries and sports player’s rehabilitation during and after injuries. Course Code: PHTY 390 Course Title: Prosthetics and Orthotics This course contains the essential information about the materials used in prosthetics and orthotics for the upper, lower limbs and spine. It also gives the students the opportunity to practice on electrotherapy modalities. Course Code: PHTY 391 Course Title: Clinical Education and Practice (II) This course aims to give the students the knowledge and essential skills related to clinical practice by combing the practical skills learned previously with patients suffering from spinal musculoskeletal problems and chronic conditions. Course Code: PHTY 393 Course Title: Clinical Skills (III) This course focuses on the assessment, diagnosis and intervention of individuals from both genders complaining from cardiopulmonary conditions. The students will also train on assessing the physical endurance and applying therapeutic exercises programs including hydrotherapy. Course Code: PHTY 394 Course Title: Clinical Education and Practice (III) This course aims to give the students the knowledge and essential skills related to clinical practice by combing the practical skills learned previously with patients suffering from cardiopulmonary problems and to practically apply hydrotherapy treatments. Course Code: PHTY 396 Course Title: Clinical Skills (IV) This course focuses on the assessment, diagnosis and functional treatment for individuals from both genders complaining from neurological problems. The students will also train on assessing the patient’s activities of daily living. Course Code: PHTY 491 Course Title: Clinical Education and Practice (IV) This course aims to give the students the knowledge and essential skills related to clinical practice by combing the practical skills learned previously with patients suffering from peripheral and central neurological conditions. Course Code: PHTY 493 Course Title: Clinical Skills (V) This course focuses on the assessment, diagnosis and functional treatment for individuals from both genders complaining from complicated conditions affecting multiple systems. The students will also have the opportunity to practice on advanced skills related to health care management of children, adolescents, adults and elderly. Course Code: PHTY 494 Course Title: Clinical Education and Practice (V) In this course the students will pick one or two subjects in their practical field of study under the supervision of an academic staff. The aim of it is to increase the knowledge, skills and behaviors in certain areas with the patients. Course Code: PHTY 499 Course Title: Graduation Project This course aims to give the students the scientific knowledge and research skills in a selected topic in Physiotherapy under the supervision of a member from the academic staff. The student will be requested to present the project on a committee from the department for discussion.
