You have probably also noticed a lot of new faces on Sunday morning. That’s because the volunteers from some of our sister congregations have arrived to help us with our expansion project. They are a group of retired WELS carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters, and general handy types who will be helping us for the next three months. Some will be here for three weeks; others will stay for the length of a project. One of the ways that you can help is by assisting with the noon meals for these volunteers. There is a sign-up sheet on the narthex bulletin board if you can help prepare and/or serve meals. There is also a “tag” board in the narthex with grocery items which you donate. Sharon Scherbarth or Marty Planert can answer any questions if you would like to serve in this way. Another way that you can help is by joining us on Saturdays. You don’t need to be an experienced carpenter. If you have some free time on a Saturday and a willingness to work, there will be a task for you. These tasks will be assigned by the Builders for Christ project leader. To help him with his planning, sign up on the Sunday before the Saturday you can help, or call the church office on Monday and let the secretary know you will be available. You can also support the project with your gifts to the “Expansion Fund.” As of this writing, we are at about $155,000 of our $235,000 goal. Most importantly, continue to keep the project in your prayers. BEAUTIFUL SAVIOR

You have probably noticed the red trailer parked in our lot with the words “Builders for Christ” written across the side.

Outreach Cornerby Pastor Alex Groth

The words are on the tip of your tongue. You’ve rehearsed this moment in your mind. You’re standing next to someone’s cubicle, next to someone’s locker, next to the soccer goal. All you have to do is open your mouth and say those nine simple words: “Do you want to come to church with me?” Why are those words so hard to say? Why do we swallow them and change the subject to the Reds, the election, the science test we took in Biology?

Here are some statistics that may put those nine words in a new perspective:

• "Eighty-two percent of the unchurched are at least somewhat likely to attend church if invited. Most people come to church because of an individual invitation.” – Dr. Thom Rainer, The Unchurched Next Door

• “A study including more than 15,000 adults revealed that about two-thirds are willing to receive information about a local church from a family member and 56 percent from a friend or neighbor. The message is clear that the unchurched are open to conversations about church.” – Philip Nation, LifeWay Research

• “Four percent of formerly churched adults are actively looking for a church to attend regularly (other than their previous church). Six percent would prefer to resume attending regularly in the same church they had attended. The largest group, 62 percent, is not actively

looking but is open to the idea of attending church regularly again.” – Scott McConnell, LifeWay Research

Our congregation holds several large-scale outreach events each year. We send postcards to the surrounding neighborhoods. We advertise in several different ways, and yet our single most effective outreach instrument is….you. People are far more likely to respond to an invitation to church if it comes from a face to face encounter with someone they know.

We are getting closer to our summer calendar of events, which are primarily geared toward kids and their families. We will have more information about those events in our June newsletter. Parents, you have a great opportunity to teach your kids about evangelism as you encourage them to invite their friends to our summer events. You can model for them what it looks like to be God’s witnesses in our community and beyond.

Maybe it won’t go well. Maybe your coworker, classmate, or teammate will give you a weird look and make up an excuse to go somewhere else. Is reaching out worth the risk? Absolutely. Jesus says in John 9:4 – “As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.” Now is our time to reflect on the most important truth in the world and share it with the people in our lives. Someone out there desperately needs to hear nine words from you. Now is the time to say them.

Expansion ProjectTemporary Inconvenience

I am sure you have already noticed some inconveniences during this time of construction. We are not able to use the “school door.” The church office, including the photocopier, has temporarily moved to the “conference room”, the room behind the trophy case in the fellowship hall. The preschool classroom has moved to the south end of the Fellowship hall. The old “preschool hallway” is a work zone. The mailboxes have been moved from the coat hallway into the narthex. And parking on Sunday morning remains a challenge.

Please be patient with the disruptions and the dirt for the next three months. We believe that the end result will be well worth the temporary inconvenience.

If you need assistance finding things or moving through the building, please let an usher or a greeter know, especially if you are in a wheelchair. The ushers and greeters are here to help you.

Please also continue to reserve the parking spaces in the top front lot for the handicapped, elderly, and those who may be having difficulty walking longer distances. Those who don’t mind the exercise could park on Haverknoll (the street across from the church entrance) and walk up the hill.

We very much appreciate your cooperation and your willingness to be adaptable during this time.

Reaching Out with the GospelLutheran Women's Missionary Society: Spring Mission Day

The annual LWMS Heartland Circuit spring mission day was held Saturday, April 16th. Reaching Out with the Gospel (Bringing in Jesus’ Other Sheep), was our theme for the Spring Rally held at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Centerville, OH.

We enjoyed an opening devotion by Pastor Voss from Centerville, reminding us that when reaching out to others with the good news of Jesus, we should be reminded of their culture and differences. We then enjoyed a presentation by Pastor Peter Martin about his time in Africa. His presentation included slides and videos from South Africa. He explained how long it took to learn the language and the challenges and rewards of his ministry. There are now three WELS missionaries in Africa.

The afternoon consisted of a Bible study titled “Shining Examples: Sharing the Good News” based on Philippians 2:15b-18. It encouraged us to find ways to let our light shine and we discussed the ways to prepare to do it. We made blankets and potted spring flowers for the shut-ins in the Centerville congregation.

Our silent auction was again very successful, with many going home with a basket of goodies or a plate of baked goods.

Everyone was reminded that our Fall Rally will be in October (no date set yet) at Beautiful Savior, Cincinnati.

The day ended with the closing devotion let by Pastor Sims from Columbus.

LES Field TripWashington, D.C.

About 20 adult chaperones and 40 students from our Lutheran Elementary School will join students and chaperones from two other WELS schools on a trip to Washington, D.C., from April 25th - 29th. Thanks to all of the generous people who donated money, drinks and snacks for our trip! What a blessing for these students to see all of the historic monuments, memorials, buildings and sites in our nation's capital city. Please ask God to bless us with safe travels and a fun, educational trip!

Communion SundaysMonth of May

Communion Sundays in May will be May 8th & 22nd, instead of May 1st & 15th.
