Course Overview

Students on this course can expect to receive high quality teaching of grammar, skills, pronunciation and functional language. Our course syllabus is prepared using published resources, real-life case studies, role-play activities and other classroom tasks.

This course is designed for all students, elementary to upper-intermediate, looking to improve their general understanding of the English language in a multi-lingual learning environment. It is intended for students looking to develop global language skills ahead of specialization, exam training or higher education.

GeneralENGLISH

Course Overview

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an increasingly popular examination, taken by people who want to work or study in an English-speaking country or attend a UK university. IELTS tests can be taken every month in the UK; enrolment is approximately seven weeks prior to the examination date. Students on this course can expect to receive high quality teaching of grammar, skills, pronunciation and functional language in English. By the end of the course students will have a thorough understanding of the IELTS examination. A wide range of techniques and strategies will be employed to help students achieve their best score. Academic vocabulary will be greatly enhanced and students will be more able to understand articles and write organized essays.

Course Overview

Students on this course can expect to receive high quality teaching of grammar, skills, pronunciation and functional language in English. The course will build students’ confidence and accuracy in all forms of the language. Students will receive extensive training in Cambridge examination techniques, and do one mock (practice) examination on all courses on the core programme.

Our course syllabus is prepared using published resources, real-life case studies, role-play activities and other classroom tasks. The course is structured in a way to provide students with the language, exam practice and confidence to succeed in a Cambridge Examination.

Cambridge Examination ENGLISH

Course Overview

The Business and Marketing English classes bring together many different professionals from all corners of the world. The course is industry driven, tailored to align with the needs of businesses in the modern workplace by incorporating real-life case studies. This will be achieved by professional scenario training alongside theoretical learning.

Students will benefit from expert tuition delivered by experienced teachers, many of whom are former qualified, industry professionals themselves. Students will also benefit from regular assessment of course content to allow for opportunities to review the content covered. Our dedicated teachers will also give one-to-one tutorials in which students can discuss progress and learning techniques.

Entry Requirements

The Business and Marketing English course is open to students who have relevant work experience in marketing and/or come from an academic background of business or marketing. However, students with no formal qualifications or experience in the sector will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

English language requirements: Students on this course will need to demonstrate a level of English equivalent to CEFR B1 or IELTS 4.0 or higher to enter.

Course Overview

Pilots, aircraft engineers and other aviation professionals employed by airlines, international aircraft manufacturers and air forces need to be able to read, understand and produce documents written in Aviation English and above all to communicate effectively with professional colleagues in English.

Clear communication has become ever more important in ensuring aviation safety as our airspace and airports have become busier. Part of the solution to this need for clarity of expression is available through a course of English for Aviation at BSMI.

Course Overview

This specialist course has been designed for students andprofessionals in the field of oil and gas. Students will already have a good standard of English, but still wish to improve their language skills within this industry, covering writing, listening, speakingand reading.

Areas of study featured in the course include, health and safety,risk assessment and accidents at the workplace, identifying anddescribing objects, equipment, processes and procedures. Thelanguage of meetings, negotiations and presentations, as well as Impact on the environment will also be covered.

INTERNSHIPS

Internships

Internships are where higher education meets employment. Nowadays many savvy employers see internships as a year-round recruiting tool, whilst students see an internship is an opportunity to gain “real” experience working in their chosen career. BSMI proposes various internship options to students including, Digital Marketing, Marketing, Customer Service, Business Administration and Hospitality.

An internship will give students invaluable, real-time experience in their chosen career. They will be able to sharpen their skills learned in the classroom and turn theory into practice. The knowledge gained will greatly increase their employment chances with future employers. On completion of the internship students will receive a reference letter from BSMI to aid their career search. The graduate job market is incredibly competitive nowadays, so having a full CV that includes actual industry experience is sure to be a valuable asset. It has the potential to make you stand out from the crowd.

Digital Marketing Internships

Students who choose an internship in Digital Marketing or Marketing will be directed to companies that mainly deal in this area. In some cases BSMI will handle the internships in their offices, as they are a specialized business and marketing school. The Marketing Internship will have a dedicated tutor who will accompany students to help them fully understand the subject and the specific implementation tools for the industry.

Customer Service Internships

Students who choose an internship in customer service will be directed to companies such as hotels, pubs, cafés, shops and stores. Students choosing an internship in businss administration will be placed in the business area of Bournemouth, which may include schools, offices or other local companies. Students selecting to work in hospitality will be directed to areas such as hotels, pubs and restaurants so that they achieve a good understanding of this sector. Students will be exposed to customer management, client reception and managing duties they are responsible for on a daily basis.

SuMMER CaMPS

Summer Camps

BSMI Summer Camps are a great opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a new culture. They will get to make solid, long term friendships that span the globe. Students will learn new, exciting skills with professional teachers that will enhance their use of the English language. Typical summer camps consist of four hours English teaching per day plus afternoon or evening activities. Summer camps help students develop interdependence and confidence as well as enjoying memorable times with their peers.

Summer camp activities include:

Beach barbecue, beach volleyball and other sports, 10-pin bowling, traditional fish and chips dinner, a visit to the Russell Coates Art Gallery & Museum and the Bournemouth Oceanarium. Other great activities are available and can be tailored to students’ requirements.

Excursions

Excursions are also available, including day trips to London, Oxford or Bath, with local trips available to Corfe Castle and the Jurassic Coast. Further destinations are available on request.

If you wish, we will be there to greet you at the airport arrivals hall. We will drive you to your accommodation and we will even send someone to collect you on your first day at school with us. We are proud to be a friendly school and we want your time with us to be productive and enjoyable.

Student visas

We can offer advice about the visa system, but it is important that you understand it is your responsibility to apply for the correct visa – either a Student Visitor Visa (SVV) or Extended Student Visitor Visa (ESVV).

It is important that you understand that people entering the UK on a Student Visa are not allowed to bring dependants, extend their visa while in the UK, or work in any capacity, paid or unpaid, during their stay.

Our school is located in Bournemouth, a vibrant south coast town which has been welcoming international students for decades. Bournemouth is less than two hours from London by car or train.

In addition to its sandy beaches, Bournemouth backs onto the New Forest, home to deer and wild ponies, and onto the green hills and thatched cottages of Dorset.
