1.2 Handling of BSS Measurements

How is the menu item named which is dealing withmeasurements in the BSC?

With which MML command can you start this command menu?

Solution:

Which four groups of measurements exist in the BSC? How do

you find a tabular listing of them?

Solution:

Result

What is the administrational state of your measurement?

Solution:

Result:

If your measurement is not created, with which command groupis your measurement created for the first time?

Solution:

What does the administrational state LOCKED mean?

Solution:

What does the administrational state UNLOCKED mean?

What is the operational state of your measurement?

Solution:

Result:

What does the operational state DISABLED mean?

Solution:

What does the operational state ENABLED mean?

Solution:

Now stop your measurement if it is already running in the BSC.How do you perform this task? What are now theadministrational and the operational states?

Solution:

Result:

Modify your measurement characteristics in that way that it runsonly on the current weekday from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. withthe smallest possible output interval.

(Please note: Normally an output interval of 15 minutes isavoided in order not to overload the database. In this case it isused for training purposes in order to achieve quicker results).

Solution:

Now start your measurement so that it runs from now on for aninfinite timeframe. Which command is necessary for thatpurpose?

Solution:

Check if your measurement is running now. What are theadministrational and the operational states of your measurementnow?

Result:

When will your measurement change the operational state to thestate ENABLED?

Solution:

What is the reason for this delay in the operational state of themeasurements?

Solution:

When will the first measurement results be reported to theNetAct system?

Solution:

Assume you start a measurement with a 24 hour output interval. If you start your measurement now, when will you get the firstmeasurement results in NetAct?

Solution:

Is it possible to start your measurement two times in the sameBSC?

Solution:

What is the measurement output interval recommended by Nokiafor your measurement? Where did you find this information?

Solution:

1.3 Handling of BSS Observations

What is the difference of observations compared tomeasurements?

Solution:

List all observations available in the BSC used for this exercise.

Solution:

Result:

Give an example for an optional observation in the BSC. Whichdocument helps you with this question?

Solution:

Result:

After starting an observation, when do you expect the first reportin the NetAct system?

What is the measurement object of your observation?

Solution:

Solution:

Open ´Administration of Measurements´ in NetAct and uploadthe BSC of your measurement. Is NetAct updated with theinformation with the new measurement? What is displayed?

2 NetAct Administration ofMeasurements

The Administration of Measurements exercise needs goodcoordination of the teams performing the single tasks of everyexercise.

Please coordinate very well your actions with the otherteams and concentrate solely on network elements andmeasurements provided by the trainer for your team.

Before you perform any mass applications reassure yourself thatyou don’t disturb the other teams with your use of the NetActapplication Administration of Measurements.

2.1 Exploring the main view of the application

Start the application Administration of Measurements, e.g. from

NetAct start page -> Reporting or from Top-Level User Interface(TLUI).

Solution:

What is the difference between a measurement and ameasurement plan?

Solution:

Which columns do you see in Active plans pane?

Solution:

Which columns do you see in All plans pane?

Solution:

List the differences in the pull-down menus depending on theselection of the Active plans pane or of the All plans pane.

Difference 1

Difference 2

Difference 3

Difference 4

Difference 5

Which network element types are supported by the NetAct Administration of Measurements application?

Solution:

Result:

Now chose the network element type ‘BSC’ .

2.2 Uploading active measurements

How can you be sure that all running measurements in ‘your’BSC are reported completely to the NetAct Administration ofMeasurements application?

Solution:

Now upload the measurement plans from the BSC named by thetrainer. Please coordinate this task with the other exercise teamsof the course.

Solution:

In which case an active plan is made inactive for a networkelement after the upload operation?

Solution:

What happens if the Administration of Measurements applicationfinds an active measurement in the NE, which is not alreadydefined in a plan?

Solution:

What does the status information window tell after a successfulupload operation?

Solution:

2.3 Creating a new measurement plan

In which pan can you create a new measurement plan, Active plans pane or All plans pane?

Solution:

Firstly name the measurement plan according to your teamnumber. Then select the following measurements:

Team number Measurement

Team 1 Traffic

Team 2 ET BSC

Team 3 ET TCSM

Team 4 Load

Define the schedule so that the measurements of the plan areactive at least for the whole duration of this training course. Aftersetting all definitions, press OK. In which pane and in which statedo you see your measurement plan now?

Solution:

Result:

Do the measurements deliver results now into the ORACLEdatabase of the NetAct regional cluster?

Result:

Caution! Please don’t use a measurement, which is already usedby another exercise team!

Page 15: BSSNOCREP - Admin of Perf Data _exercise

Now start your measurement plan in the BSC named by thetrainer . Choose start and stop date so that the measurementsare active at least for the duration of this course.

Solution:

How do you see directly in which network elements your plan isactive now?

Solution:

Result:

How can you use an existing measurement plan as template fora new plan?

Solution:

2.4 Modifying a running measurement plan

Now for one of your active measurements another measurementoutput interval shall be chosen for all network elements in onestep.

What do you have to do as a first step before you can changeyour measurement plan? Perform this step and watch whathappens with your measurement plan.

Solution:

Result:

Now change the measurement output interval of one of yourmeasurements to 30 min.

Solution:

Page 16: BSSNOCREP - Admin of Perf Data _exercise

Start your measurement plan again in the given BSC. How canyou check if your new output interval definition is realised in anetwork element?

Solution:

2.5 Visualisation and Action Log

Now it shall be checked which measurement plans are active inthe network elements. How can you perform this task? What doyou see in the displayed window?

Solution:

Result:

What is the meaning of the different colours in the activation

status?

How can you list all actions that were performed during a specificnumber of days with the Administration of Measurements application?

Solution:

Result:

2.6 Default measurements

In which document of the NetAct Documentations do you find the

recommended default measurement for each network elementtype supported by Administration of Measurements and thecorresponding measurement output intervals?

Solution:
