HISTORY Balai Teknologi Bahan Bakar dan Rekayasa Disain (BTBRD) is one of the units in BPPT. Our main tasks related to Research, Development, Engineering, and Operation in the field of energy. Our activity covers power plant, biofuel field, process industry, oil and gas industry, biomass and other renewable energy, promotion, advocation, and dissemination of technology to educate our society. BTBRD started in 1993 as an engineering group to conduct engineering works mainly in the field of power plant. In the middle of 1995, the group changed its name to Pusat Rekayasa Rancang Bangun (PRRB) – BPPT with an initial activity in engineering design of Nuclear Power Plant AP600 for Westinghouse Electric Corporation, USA, in the scope of turbine development and improvement of Engineering Center BPPT’s capabilities in engineering design, since April, 4th 2001, it became known as technical unit named Balai Rekayasa Disain dan Sistem Teknologi (BRDST) – BPPT. Since 2016, it also include Coal characterization laboratory and now it serve under name Balai Teknologi Bahan Bakar dan Rekayasa Disain (BTBRD) – BPPT.

LABORATORY FACILITIES Liquid Fuel Characterization Laboratory BTBRD-BPPT has been developing biodiesel process since 2000 and has experience on analyzing and testing the biodiesel product and raw materials as part of the job assessment and development and engineering of biodiesel plants. Raw material of plant oil has to be analyzed with regard to free fatty acids contents, gum, water and impurities, while biodiesel is analyzed according to the parameter and method in the SNI 7182-2012

Implementation of biodiesel B10 on BPPT’s buses to promote and utilize biodiesel in order to convince that biodiesel is safely used for public transportation, (2004-2005)

Biodiesel road test and chassis dynamometer test of B30, 20,000 km, to ensure the quality of biodiesel meet the requirement for diesel car, (2004)

Constant technical support for the implementation of National Biodiesel Standard (SNI) and the availability of biodiesel fuel at public gas station (2005-2006)

Actively involved in supporting biodiesel policy, including mandatory of biodiesel utilization (2006-now)

Dissemination and socialization of biodiesel production technology to local governments, universities, and private sectors (2006-now)
