BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate Creative Digital Media Production Who is this course for? Any student with an interest in the Media and/or thoughts of following a Higher Education course in Media / Film / Communications / Journalism / Cultural Studies. The Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production is an exciting and practical course which offers a number of transferable skills in preparation for employment or further educational study in areas such as; Television and Film, Radio, Sound Recording, Print-Based Media, Interactive Media and Games Development. This course is aimed provide learners with the strongest opportunity for employment and provide skills that can be transferable in all areas of media including film photography and sound. The Media Studies department at Wyke Sixth Form College The Media Studies department has five dedicated Media teaching rooms with access to the Media resource room which is equipped with PCs and a suite of iMac computers. Creative Digital Media students will have access to a variety of production equipment such as DSLR cameras, tripods, Go-Pro’s, a Drone, Mini studio, recording mics and much more to be able to produce and edit their final submission piece. Who is this course for?

Any student with an interest in the Media and/or thoughts of following a Higher

The Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production is an exciting and

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Creative Digital

Media Production

Course content

There are 3 mandatory units, 1 internal and 2 external, plus one optional unit within

this qualification:

- Media Representations

- Pre-Production Portfolio

- Responding to a commission

- Plus one optional unit yet to be confirmed.

Assessment methods:

On screen exam (external): Unit 1 media representations. Set and marked by

exam board. Learners will complete a 2-hour onscreen exam where they will watch

and control audio-visual media products and analyse them in terms of media

messages. This test is worth 80 marks.

Internal assessment: Unit 4 Pre-Production portfolio. You will be required to

produce a report, presentation and a written/audio/video summary to document

how pre-production was managed.

Task (external): Unit 8 Responding to a commission. A task set and marked

by the exam board completed under supervised conditions. This will consist of 2

parts. Part A: Learners will be provided with a commission for a media production.

Part B will be a task completed in 5 hours under supervised conditions. This will be

a written submission worth 75 Marks.

What does this course lead to? As we live in a media dominated world, gaining excellent digital media ability will equip students

with the skills that many employers require. It will also help students when applying to University

courses that require students to attend interview with a portfolio of work.

In the past former Wyke media students have progressed onto careers in advertising, broadcast

media, radio, print journalism, social media, website development and video production.
