This describes the changes in BTS3900 LTE Installation Guide.

2 Preparing for Installation

This topic describes the tools and meters that need to be available before the installation. It alsodescribes the skills that the installation engineers must possess, and the requirements that theinstallation engineers must meet.

3 Information About the Installation

BTS3900 cabinets can be classified into -48 V cabinet, +24 V cabinet, and +220 V cabinet. Youneed to familiarize yourself with the related information and clearance requirements before thecabinet installation.

The BTS3900 cabinets are delivered with boards are installed. The installation procedureinvolves installing the base, cabinets, and cables on site. In addition, some optional componentscan be installed on site as required.

5 Unpacking the Equipment

You need to unpack and check the delivered equipment and ensure that all the materials areincluded and intact.

6 Checking the Installed Modules and Cables

The internal modules and cables are installed in the cabinet before delivery. You need to checkthat the modules and cables are securely connected.

7 Installing the Base

The BTS3900 cabinet must be installed on the base. The base can be installed on the concretefloor or ESD floor according to the equipment room conditions and customer requirements.

8 Installing a Cabinet

This section describes the procedure and precautions for installing a single cabinet on a base.

9 Installing the PGND Cable

The equipotential PGND cable is used to connect the PGND bolts on the cabinets to the PGNDgrounding bars on site, ensuring that the cabinets are properly grounded. The equipotential cableis used to connect the PGND bolts on the cabinets, ensuring the equipotential connectionsbetween the cabinets.

10 (Optional) Installing the Modules

The mandatory modules in the cabinet are already installed. The optional modules can beinstalled on site according to different field requirements.

11 Installing the Cables

The BTS3900 cabinet is delivered with boards installed, and the internal cables are alreadyinstalled. Therefore, only the external cables and cables for the optional modules need to beinstalled on site.

12 Installation Checklist

After the cabinets and devices are all installed, you need to check the installation items,installation environment, and cable-related items.

13 Performing the Power-On Check

Before the cabinets are put into use, you need to check the power-on status of the cabinets.

14 Obtaining the ESN

The Electronic Serial Number (ESN) is unique to a Network Element (NE) for identification.The ESN is used during the commissioning of the base station.

3 Information About the Installation

About This Chapter

BTS3900 cabinets can be classified into -48 V cabinet, +24 V cabinet, and +220 V cabinet. Youneed to familiarize yourself with the related information and clearance requirements before thecabinet installation.

3.1 Hardware Structure of the BTS3900 Cabinet (-48 V)The BTS3900 cabinet (-48 V) houses the RFUs, fan box, BBU, and DCDU-01. In addition, sparespace in the cabinet is available for customer equipment.

3.2 Hardware Structure of the BTS3900 Cabinet (+24 V)The BTS3900 cabinet (+24 V) houses the RFUs, fan box, BBU, DCDU-01, and PSUs (DC/DC).

3.3 Hardware Structure of the BTS3900 Cabinet (220 V)The BTS3900 cabinet (220 V) houses the RFUs, fan box, BBU, DCDU-01, PSUs (AC/DC), andPMU.

3.4 Installation Clearance and Position RequirementsSpace for cabling and maintenance should be reserved during the installation of the cabinet.

3.1 Hardware Structure of the BTS3900 Cabinet (-48 V)The BTS3900 cabinet (-48 V) houses the RFUs, fan box, BBU, and DCDU-01. In addition, sparespace in the cabinet is available for customer equipment.

The BTS3900 cabinet (-48 V) can house three RFUs in typical configuration or six RFUs in fullconfiguration. Figure 3-1 and Figure 3-2 show the BTS3900 cabinet (-48 V) in typicalconfiguration and in full configuration respectively.

The BTS3900 cabinet (+24 V) supports the 3RFU typical configuration and the 6RFU fullconfiguration. Figure 3-3 and Figure 3-4 show the BTS3900 cabinet (+24 V) in typicalconfiguration and in full configuration respectively.

3.3 Hardware Structure of the BTS3900 Cabinet (220 V)The BTS3900 cabinet (220 V) houses the RFUs, fan box, BBU, DCDU-01, PSUs (AC/DC), andPMU.

The BTS3900 cabinet (220 V) supports the 3RFU typical configuration and the 6RFU fullconfiguration. Figure 3-5 and Figure 3-6 show the BTS3900 cabinet (220 V) in typicalconfiguration and in full configuration respectively.

3.4 Installation Clearance and Position RequirementsSpace for cabling and maintenance should be reserved during the installation of the cabinet.

Installation Clearance Requirements

The clearance requirements of the BTS3900 cabinets are as follows:

l The cabinet can be installed with its back against the wall.

l The cabinet can be installed with one side against the wall.

l At least 800 mm in front of the cabinet should be reserved for maintenance.

l At least 200 mm on top of the cabinet should be reserved for cabling.

Figure 3-7 shows the installation clearance requirements when a single cabinet is installed, twocabinets are installed side-by-side, and two cabinets are stacked.

Cabinet Layout Requirements

The layout requirements of the BTS3900 cabinets are as follows:

l The cabinets are as close to the feeder window as possible so that the feeders can be asshort as possible.

l The cabinets are installed in a row in the same equipment room for easy cabling.

l No space is reserved between the cabinets and the customer equipment if they are installedside-by-side.

Figure 3-8 shows the layout requirements (unit: mm) for the installation of the BTS3900cabinets.

5 Unpacking the Equipment

You need to unpack and check the delivered equipment and ensure that all the materials areincluded and intact.

7 Installing the Base

About This Chapter

The BTS3900 cabinet must be installed on the base. The base can be installed on the concretefloor or ESD floor according to the equipment room conditions and customer requirements.

7.1 Installing the Base on the Concrete FloorThis section describes the procedure and precautions for installing the base on the concrete floor.

ProcedureStep 1 Determine the position of the cabinet by referring to the marking template, as shown in Figure

7-1.

Step 2 Drill a hole at each anchor point, and then install the expansion bolt assembly, as shown inFigure 7-2.

1. Use the percussion drill with bit 16 to drill holes at the anchor points, and ensure that the

depth of each hole ranges from 52 mm to 60 mm.

WARNINGTake proper safety measures to protect your eyes and respiratory tract against the dustbefore drilling holes.

2. Use a vacuum cleaner to clear the dust inside and around the holes. If the inter-hole spacingis too wide or too narrow, locate and drill holes again.

3. Slightly tighten the expansion bolt, and then put the expansion bolt assembly into the holevertically.

4. Use a rubber mallet to hammer the expansion bolt until the expansion tube is buried intothe hole.

5. Remove the M12x60 bolt, spring washer, and flat washer from each expansion boltassembly in sequence.

WARNINGAfter disassembling the expansion bolt assembly, ensure that the top of the expansion tubeis on the same level as the floor.

Step 3 Install the base and adjust the base level.1. Place the insulating spacer and the base on the floor, align the mounting holes in the base

and in the insulating spacers with the holes of the expansion bolts in the floor, and then usefour M12x60 bolts to secure the base, as shown in Figure 7-3.

2. Check and adjust the base level.

Place the level on the top plane of the base to check the base level, as shown in Figure7-4. If the bubble is not in the middle of the level, adjust the base level through the adjustingbolts.

Step 4 Test the insulation between the base and the expansion bolt.1. Set the multimeter to the megohm position (MΩ).2. Measure the resistance between the adjusting bolt and the expansion bolt, as shown in

Figure 7-5.

l If the resistance is less than five megohms, you can infer that the base is not insulated

from the floor. Go to Step 4.3.l If the resistance is greater than or equal to five megohms, you can infer that the base is

insulated from the floor. End the test.

3. Dissemble the expansion bolt assembly, and check whether insulating washers are missedor damaged.l If insulating washers are missed or damaged, reinstall them, and then adjust the base

level.l If no insulating washers are missed or damaged, check whether the multimeter is faulty

or whether the setting is correct.

7.2 Installing the Base on the ESD FloorThis section describes the procedure and precautions for installing the base on the ESD floor.

Procedure

Step 1 Determine the installation position of the cabinet on the ESD floor by referring to Installing theCabinet on the Concrete Floor Step 1.

Step 2 Drill holes on the ESD floor.1. Use a percussion drill with bit 16 to drill holes at the anchor points. The holes should

penetrate the ESD floor, as shown in Figure 7-7.

2. Mark the positions of the mounting holes on the concrete floor, as shown in Figure 7-9.

3. Use a measuring tape to measure the inter-hole spacing, and ensure that the four holes serve

as the vertices of a rectangle.

Step 4 Drill holes at the anchor points on the concrete floor, and then install expansion bolt assemblies.For details, see Installing the Cabinet on the Concrete Floor Step 2.

Step 5 Secure the support for installing the ESD floor.

Use M12x60 bolts, spring washers, and flat washers to secure the support for installing the ESDfloor on the concrete floor. Tighten the bolts until the fastening torque reaches 45 N·m. Figure7-10 shows how to secure the support for installing the ESD floor.

8 Installing a Cabinet

This section describes the procedure and precautions for installing a single cabinet on a base.

ContextThe cabinet door can be removed before the cabinet is installed for easy operations. Whenremoving the cabinet door, disconnect the equipotential cable from the lower part of the door,and then rotate the spring pin 90° to the left and press the pin. Thus, the cabinet door can beremoved, as shown in Figure 8-1.

When installing the cabinet door, align the spring pin with the hole, rotate the pin to the rightuntil it is tightly pressed by the door, and then install the equipotential cable on the door, asshown in Figure 8-2.

Procedure

Step 1 Lift the cabinet onto the base.

Step 2 Slide the cabinet along the base to ensure that the back of the cabinet is aligned with the backof the base. Use a torque wrench to tighten the two M12x50 bolts in the front of the cabinet untilthe fastening torque reaches 45 N·m, as shown in Figure 8-3.

9 Installing the PGND Cable

The equipotential PGND cable is used to connect the PGND bolts on the cabinets to the PGNDgrounding bars on site, ensuring that the cabinets are properly grounded. The equipotential cableis used to connect the PGND bolts on the cabinets, ensuring the equipotential connectionsbetween the cabinets.

ContextTable 9-1 describes the specifications of the PGND cable and equipotential cable.

Step 1 Remove the connecting piece from the cabinet top, and then install the support for the GPS surgeprotector in the original position of the connecting piece, as shown in Figure 10-1.

Step 2 Link the SMA male connector of the GPS signal cable to the GPS surge protector on the USCUand the N-type connector to the support for the GPS surge protector, as shown in Figure 10-2.

11 Installing the Cables

About This Chapter

The BTS3900 cabinet is delivered with boards installed, and the internal cables are alreadyinstalled. Therefore, only the external cables and cables for the optional modules need to beinstalled on site.

11.1 Cabling RequirementsYou must route cables according to the specified cabling requirements to prevent signalinterference.

11.2 Cable Routing PrinciplesThe cables in the BTS3900 cabinet must be routed according to the cabling requirements andmust be bound by using cable ties.

11.3 Installing the Power CablesThis describes the procedure and precautions for installing the external input power cable.

11.4 Installing the Transmission CablesThe E1/T1 cable or FE/GE cable can be used for data transmission according to the transmissionmode of the eNodeB.

11.5 Installing the Monitoring Signal Cable for the EMUThe monitoring signal cable for the EMU transmits monitoring signals from the EMU to theBBU3900.

11.6 Installing the RF JumperThe RF jumper connects the RFU to the antenna system for signal exchange between the basestation and the antenna system.

11.1 Cabling RequirementsYou must route cables according to the specified cabling requirements to prevent signalinterference.

General Cabling RequirementsThe bending radius of the cables must meet the following specifications:

l The bending radius of the 7/8'' feeder must be more than 250 mm, and the bending radiusof the 5/4'' feeder must be more than 380 mm.

l The bending radius of the 1/4'' jumper must be more than 35 mm. The bending radius ofthe super-flexible 1/2'' jumper must be more than 50 mm, and the bending radius of theordinary 1/2'' jumper must be more than 127 mm.

l The bending radius of the power cable or PGND cable must be at least five times thediameter of the cable.

l The bending radius of the optical cable must be at least 20 times the diameter of the opticalcable.

l The bending radius of the E1/T1 cable must be at least five times the diameter of the cable.

l The bending radius of the signal cable must be at least five times the diameter of the cable.

The cables must be bound as follows:

l Different types of cables must be separately routed at least 30 mm and cannot be entangled.

l The cables must be bound tightly and neatly. The jackets of the cables are not damaged.

l The cable ties must face the same direction, and those at the same horizontal line must bein a straight line. Extra length of cable ties must be cut off.

l Labels or nameplates must be attached to the cables after they are installed.

The cables must be routed in category as follows:

l Different types of cables must be separately routed.

l Different types of cables cannot be crossed.

l Different types of cables must be routed in parallel or separated by special objects.

Special Cabling RequirementsCabling requirements for power cables are as follows:

l The -48 V power cables should be bound together.

l The +24 V power cables should be bound together.

l The power cable must be separately bound from transmission cables and signal cables.

l Multiple power cables must be bound when routed.

l Positions for routing the power cables must meet requirements of the engineering design.

l If the length of the power cable is insufficient, replace the cable rather than addingconnectors or soldering joints to lengthen the cable.

l The PGND cables for the base station must be connected to the same ground bar.

l The PGND cables must be buried in the ground or routed indoors. They should not berouted overhead before they are led into the equipment room.

l The exterior of the coaxial wire and shielding layer of the shielded cable must have properelectrical contact with the metal surface of the connected equipment.

l The PGND cable and signal cable cannot be bound or entangled. A certain distance mustbe reserved between them to prevent interference from each other.

l Fuses or switches cannot be installed on the PGND cables.

l Other devices cannot be used for the electrical connection of the PGND cables.

l All the metal parts in the housing of the equipment must be reliably connected to the groundterminal.

Cabling requirements for E1 cables are as follows:

l The E1 cable cannot cross the power cable, PGND cable, or RF cable when routed. If thetransmission cable is routed with the power cable, PGND cable, and RF cable in parallel,the spacing between them must be greater than 30 mm.

l The E1 cables must be neatly and elegantly routed and securely bound with cable ties.

l Extra length of E1 cables must be reserved when they are curved.

Cabling requirements for the optical cables are as follows:

l Do not stretch the optical cables, step on the cables, or place heavy objects on the cables.Keep the cables away from sharp objects to prevent damage to the fibers.

l When the optical cables are routed, the extra length of the cables must be coiled aroundspecial devices, such as a fiber coiler.

l When coiling the optical cables, apply the strength evenly. Do not bend the cables withforce, thus preventing any damage to the fibers.

l Cover the optical connectors that are not in use with dustproof caps.

11.2 Cable Routing PrinciplesThe cables in the BTS3900 cabinet must be routed according to the cabling requirements andmust be bound by using cable ties.

Procedure

Step 1 Route the PGND cable along the left interior of the cabinet.

Step 2 Route the six jumpers on the left along the left interior of the cabinet.

Step 3 Route the external input power cable along the left interior of the cabinet.

Step 4 Route the six jumpers on the right along the right interior of the cabinet.

Step 5 Route the transmission cables along the right interior of the cabinet.

Step 6 Route the monitoring signal cables close to the CPRI cables.

Figure 11-1 shows the cable routing in a single cabinet.

11.3 Installing the Power CablesThis describes the procedure and precautions for installing the external input power cable.

11.3.1 Installing the Input Power Cable for the -48 V CabinetThe input power cable for the -48 V cabinet connects the wiring terminals for the input powercable on the DCDU-01 to the external power equipment. The cable feeds -48 V DC power intothe BTS3900 cabinet.

11.3.2 Installing the Input Power Cable for the +24 V CabinetThe input power cable for the +24 V cabinet connects the power system (DC/DC) to the externalpower equipment. The cable feeds +24 V DC power into the BTS3900 cabinet.

11.3.3 Installing the Input Power Cable for the 220 V CabinetThe input power cable for the 220 V cabinet feeds external AC power into the BTS3900 cabinet.

11.3.1 Installing the Input Power Cable for the -48 V CabinetThe input power cable for the -48 V cabinet connects the wiring terminals for the input powercable on the DCDU-01 to the external power equipment. The cable feeds -48 V DC power intothe BTS3900 cabinet.

ContextThe cross-section area of the -48 V power cable is 16 mm2.

Procedure

Step 1 Measure the distance between the DCDU-01 and the external power equipment according to theactual cable route, and then prepare power cables of a proper length.

When two -48 V cabinets are stacked, the external power equipment supplies power to the upper and lowercabinets.

Step 5 Use a screwdriver to tighten the screws on the wiring terminals.

Step 6 Install the protecting hood, and then use a screwdriver to tighten the screws. Figure 11-2 showsthe installation procedure.

Contextl The 220 V cabinet supports three types of AC power input: 220 V AC single-phase, 220

V AC three-phase, and 110 V AC dual-live-wire.

l The cross-section area of the 220 V AC single-phase power cable is 6 mm2. The cross-section area of the 220 V AC three-phase power cable is 2.5 mm2. The cross-section areaof the 110 V dual-live-wire power cable is 6 mm2.

wiring terminal labeled L1 in the power subrack (AC/DC) and neutral wire to the wiringterminal labeled N1, as shown in Figure 11-5.

2. Install the 220 V AC three-phase input power cable. That is, remove the short-circuiting

cable from the wiring terminals of the power subrack (AC/DC), connect the three live wiresto the wiring terminals labeled L1, L2, and L3, and then connect the neutral wire to thewiring terminal labeled N1, as shown in Figure 11-6.

3. Install the 110 V AC input power cable. That is, connect the live wire to the wiring terminal

labeled L1 in the power subrack (AC/DC) and neutral wire to the wiring terminal labeledN1, as shown in Figure 11-7.

Step 4 Connect the other end of the power cable to the external power equipment.

Step 5 Use a screwdriver to tighten the screws on the wiring terminals.

11.4.2 Installing the FE/GE CableIf the BTS3900 needs to communicate with transmission equipment through the FE/GE cable,the FE/GE cable need to be installed.

11.4.3 Installing the FE/GE Optical CableIf the BTS3900 needs to communicate with transmission equipment through the FE/GE opticalcable , the FE/GE optical cable needs to be installed.

11.4.1 Installing the E1/T1 CableIf the BTS3900 needs to communicate with transmission equipment through the E1/T1 cable,the E1/T1 cable needs to be installed.

PrerequisiteEnsure that both ends of the E1 cable are disconnected. Then, weld connectors to the bare wiresat one end of the E1 cable all at once.

ProcedureStep 1 Install the UTRP for the communication between the BTS3900 and the transmission equipment

through the E1/T1 cable. Then, link the DB26 male connector of the E1/T1 cable to the portlabeled E1/T1 on the UTRP, and then tighten the screws, as shown in Figure 11-8.

l The single-mode optical module is labeled "SM" and multi-mode optical module is labeled"MM".

l If there are no labels on the optical module, it is the multi-mode optical module.

l If the optical module is labeled with 1.25 G, 1310nm, or other information, it is the single-mode optical module.

NOTE

The ports labeled SFP0 and FE/GE0 on the LMPT is GE transmission line, and the two ports cannot beused at the same time.

The ports labeled SFP1 and FE/GE1 on the LMPT is another GE transmission line, and the two ports cannotbe used at the same time.

Procedure

Step 1 Turn the puller downwards and insert into the ports labeled SFP0 or FE/GE0 on the LMPT, asshown in Figure 11-10.

Step 1 Insert the RJ-45 connector at one end of the monitoring signal cable for the EMU into the portlabeled MON1 on the UPEU in the BBU3900.

Step 2 Link the DB9 male connector at the other end of the monitoring signal cable for the EMU to theport labeled RS485 on the EMU, and then tighten the screws.

11.6 Installing the RF JumperThe RF jumper connects the RFU to the antenna system for signal exchange between the basestation and the antenna system.

Procedure

Step 1 Lead the RF jumpers into the cabinet through the cable holes, and the route the jumpers byreferring to Cable Routing Principles.

NOTE

Reserve an extra length of 300 mm when preparing the RF jumper according to the actual cable route. Thus, thejumper can be led out from the upper cabinet if two cabinets are stacked during capacity expansion.

Step 2 Link the DIN connectors of the RF jumpers to the ports labeled ANT on the panels of the RFUs,as shown in Figure 11-12.

Step 3 Use a torque wrench to tighten the DIN connector until the fastening torque reaches 25 N·m to35 N·m.

Step 4 Attach color rings by referring to Color Ring for the Antenna System and Attaching the ColorRing.

NOTE

Check and ensure the secure connections of the Inter-RFU RF signal cables, which are installed inside thecabinets based on different configurations of the cabinets before delivery.

12 Installation Checklist

After the cabinets and devices are all installed, you need to check the installation items,installation environment, and cable-related items.

Checking the Cabinet Installation

Table 12-1 describes the cabinet installation checklist.

1 The base is securely installed.

2 All the bolts, especially those for electrical connections, are tightened. Both thespring washer and the flat washer are installed in a correct sequence.

3 The surface of the cabinet is neat and clean.

4 The cabinet meets the dustfree requirement.

5 The paint on the surface is satisfactory. The damaged paint is repaired.

6 All labels, tags, and nameplates are correct, legible, and complete.

Installation Environment Checklist

Table 12-2 describes the installation environment checklist.

1 No redundant tapes or cable ties are left on the cables.

2 No tapes, tails of cable ties, paper, or packing bags are left inside or outside thecabinet.

Electric Connection ChecklistTable 12-3 describes the electric connection checklist of the cabinet.

1 All self-made PGND cables are copper-based with the proper wire diameters. Nobreaking device such as switch and fuse is allowed for the electric connection ofthe grounding system. No short circuit is allowed. Each terminal on the groundingbar can be connected with only one wiring terminal of the PGND cable.

2 The redundant part of the power cable or PGND cable is stripped off rather thancoiled.

3 The lugs at both ends of the power cable or PGND cable are securely soldered orcrimped.

4 The bare wires and the terminal handles at the wiring terminals are coated withheat-shrinkable tubes.

5 The flat washer and the spring washer are well mounted on all OT terminals.

6 All cables are connected securely and reliably. Pay special attention to thecommunication cable connections and cable connections at the bottom of thecabinet.

7 The cables are neatly and tightly bound. The cable ties are evenly spaced and facethe same direction.

8 The power cable, PGND cable, feeder, optical cable and the E1/T1/FE signal cableare bound separately with a spacing of larger than 30 mm.

9 The cable layout facilitates maintenance and future capacity expansion. And thebending radius of the cables meet the requirements.

10 All the labels at both ends of the cables are legible.

11 The extra length of each indoor cable tie is cut, and the cut surface is smoothwithout sharp edges. An extra length of 3 mm to 5 mm is resereved for eachoutdoor cable tie.

12 The idle connectors of the cables are properly protected.

13 The connectors of the RF cables are fixed in position to avoid false connectionthat may cause an abnormal voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR).

14 Obtaining the ESN

The Electronic Serial Number (ESN) is unique to a Network Element (NE) for identification.The ESN is used during the commissioning of the base station.

Procedure

Step 1 Record the ESN shown on the label attached to the mounting ear of the BBU. Figure 14-1 showsthe position of the ESN.
