PROGRAMOVERVIEW

TheBostonUniversityDanceTeamisoneofthetopprogramsinthenation.Iftheideaofinvolvementinyourschool,competingnationallyandtakingyourabilitiestothenextlevelinterestsyou,thenthisteamisforYOU!Theteamperformsatmen’sandwomen’sbasketballgames,aton-campusevents,communityserviceevents,andlocaldanceshowcasesthroughouttheseason.Inaddition,theteamcompetesnationallyintheDivisionIJazzcategoryattheNDACollegiateNationalChampionshipinDaytonaBeach,FL.TheteamhasfinishedintheTopTensince2007andwonNationalTitlesin2014(HipHop)and2016(TeamPerformance).AsamemberoftheBostonUniversityDanceTeamandastudent-athlete,youareavisiblerepresentativeoftheathleticteamsyousupport,theUniversityandthecityofBoston.Teammembersdedicate12-20hoursperweektowardspractice,games,eventsandfundraisers.Inaddition,allstudent-athletesintheAthleticDepartmentarerequiredtomaintainacademicstandardsincludinga2.0GPA.Imaginetheexcitementofbeingapartofateamcompetingatthenationallevelattheworld’slargestcheeranddancecompetitionwithyourbestfriendsstandingbyyourside!Everyonceinawhileyoucomeacrossanopportunity,andmakeadecisionthatwillchangeyourlife.EarningaplaceontheBostonUniversityDanceTeamhasthepotentialtodojustthat!

TRYOUTREQUIREMENTS

Eligibility:Candidatesmustbeafreshman,sophomore,orjuniorenrolledfull-timeatBostonUniversityORaseniororgraduatestudentenrolledinaminimumofoneacademiccoursepersemester.CandidateswhohavefinishedatleastonesemesterofclassesatBostonUniversitymusthaveaminimum2.0GradePointAverageandmustprovideanunofficialtranscript.Alllevelsofexperiencearewelcometotryout!Notonlyarewelookingfordancerswithstrongskillsandtechnique,butalsoexcellentperformers.Donotassumethataweaknessinanyoneareawillautomaticallydisqualifyyouasateammember.Wewillbelookingfordancerswhoareeagertolearnanddisplayapositiveattitudeatalltimes.TryoutProcess:Tryoutsareheldovermultiplesessionswithcutsoccurringonbothdays.Duringeachsession,youwillbeobservedbythecoachesandajudgingpanel.DAY1:SATURDAY,SEPTEMBER15thLocation:CaseGymnasium(285BabcockStreet)

SESSION1:Wewillstartwithawarm-upandthencontinuewithprogressionsacrossthefloorconsistingofkicks,leaps,turns,andvariousothertechnicalskills.Wewillthenbreakforlunch.Thefirstroundofcutswillbepostedafterthelunchbreak.SESSION2:Wewillteach3shortdancecombinations(jazz,hiphop,andpom).Attheendoftheday,youwillhaveopenpracticetimeavailable.DAY2:SUNDAY,SEPTEMBER16thLocation:CaseGymnasium(285BabcockStreet)

FINALS:Youwillperformthedancecombinations,aswellassomeprogressionsacrossthefloor,forapanelofjudges.Atthispointyouwillhavetheopportunitytoperforma2-4eight-countcombinationchoreographedbyYOU.Thisshouldincorporateyourstrengths,andtechnicalskillsthatmanynothavebeenemphasizedduringtheearlierportionofthetryout.Musicwillbeprovidedaheadoftimebyemailingbudt@bu.eduORonday1oftryouts.Youwillhavetimeduringthetryoutprocesstoworkonthismaterial.Afterthedanceportioniscomplete,therewillbeashortinterviewwherewewillaskyou1-2questionstogettoknowyou.
