What is a Coral Reef?

Coral reefs are underwater structures made from calcium carbonate secreted from corals. Corals are colonies of tiny living animals living together in marine waters. Reefs grow best in warm, shallow , sunny and agitated waters.

Preserving the Buccoo Reef It is important to protect the Buccoo Reef because

once it is destroyed, it cannot be replaced that easily. It takes many years, sometimes hundreds of thousands of years, for a coral to form. Can you imagine how long it would take for an entire reef to form? Therefore, it is all our responsibility to preserve the reef to ensure that it is enjoyed for many years to come.
