Issue 4 23rd March 2018

Thank you to everyone who has supported our slightly adjusted school opening times. We are ‘on duty’ to accept students from 8:55 and they go in to lessons at 9:25. Pick up time has not changed; 3:00. If you need to drop off students early, arrange with staff ahead of time and if students arrive late or leave early, don’t forget to sign them in and out at the office.

What a busy two weeks we have had. Here are just a few of the exciting things that our students have been part of over this time.

Disco feverThank you to all the parents who attended the Disco and helped to make it special. It’s always great to see our kids dressed up either in dancing clothes or interesting and wild dress ups from our dress up cupboard. The music was bopping and many of the students made the most of the opportunity to have a great time. As usual the sausages were delicious.

Learning for Life - Life Education

Each class visited the Life Education van this week. They learned all about the human body and some simple safety rules for around the home and when out in the community eg, bike safety and road safety. Many of the children happily recounted what they did in the van when asked and many of our non-verbal children were intrigued and quite besotted with Harold the giraffe.

Easter Hat ParadeWe will be holding an Easter Hat Parade on the 29th March at 10:00. All students will be making hats for the hat parade in class however, parents are often happier to make their child’s hat at home, if this is the case we are more than happy for that to occur and look forward to seeing the wonderful creations when they arrive. The P and C will be assisting to run a morning tea for the parents and other family and friends who come to the parade. You are welcome to provide a small plate of morning tea food if you wish.

Ability ExpoTwo of our classes attended the Ability Expo at the Dunn Lewis Centre Last week. They didn’t quite know what to expect when they got there but were treated to ten pin bowling, drumming, free gifts and great company. The students of Green Class were asked to perform on the stage ad performed the Gangnam Style Dance for the other people who were there.

Dream CricketOn Tuesday Col and Cheryl took a group of students to Nowra Showground to participate in the Dream Cricket Gala Day. Although the day is not deliberately set up to cater for students with special needs they make an effort every year to individually invite our school to attend and are very welcoming on the day. The students participated in a range of activities designed to develop cricket skills like throwing, catching and batting. It was a great opportunity for those students that attended to mix with students from lots of other schools.
