Do You Believe? BY: SOLOMON DAVID SENIOR MINISTER, BCCC While in Nashville, TN about a month ago I was fortunate enough to preview a new Christian film called “Do You Believe?” It was a powerful film with a lot of redemptive stories. Early on in the movie, the pastor of the church challenged people with the question he himself was challenged with. The question was “Do you believe?” He said “If we really believe Jesus was who he said he was and did what the Bible said he did, it will not just bring you to your knees but it will drive you to your feet.” Many times Christians want to relegate their faith as a matter of intellectual checklists, meaning their belief is only a matter of cognitively agreeing to certain truths and facts. However, Jesus made it clear that faith always manifests itself by what it does in response to what it believes. He said “if you love me (believe in me, follow me, surrender to me) you will obey my commandments.” In the same vain, Jesus’ little brother James wrote in his book “Faith, if it is not accompanied by deeds, is dead.” We would say in our time “Talk is cheap.” I guess my whole point in writing this is to challenge all of us with the question “How much of my faith is mental, and how much of my faith is visible?” Here’s what I know, our world needs to SEE Jesus now more than ever. When I went to see “Do You Believe”, I was saddened that my small group and about 6 other people were the only ones in the theatre. And this was a movie that was just released the same weekend. Here is a movie that shows how humanity can have hope, dealing with the most important aspects of life, death, and eternity, and the God who reigns over all three of these. And yet, the masses obviously prefer guns, sex, violence, fairy tale, and adventure films as a means to escape reality. The time is right, the harvest is ready, will you join me in putting feet on our faith so that others may believe? Imagine your life as a fountain. Years ago I read a book by Steve Sjogren which left me with a deep impression. In his book “Outflow,” he painted a picture in the readers mind of two distinct types of fountains.

The first type of fountain was one that was beautiful. The water was clear, clean, and moved in such a beautiful manner, thus bringing joy and a feeling of hope and inspiration to the person viewing it. The second, was a fountain that had been dried up for years. Crusting, rusted and full of debris. It’s power, and usefulness had left, and was no longer inspiring to others who viewed it. I’m sure we have all seen each type of fountain in our lives. Our Christian walk can be tied back to this analogy of a

fountain. The question we all must ask ourselves is this, “What type of fountain are we?” Is our life fountain one that is overflowing into the lives of others in a beautiful and graceful way? Is our fountain alive to those around us? Would people be curious enough to stop and ponder as to it’s beauty? Is it the type of fountain that just overflows and makes everything around it better? Is it a fountain that leads others around us to a deeper walk with Christ? Or,…is our personal fountain one that is all dried up

and full of debris? Is the water muddied and just trickling? I love that old song, “I’ve got a river of life flowing out of me, makes the lame to walk and the blind to see…” You see as followers of Christ we are to have fountains that are full of Joy. Powerful lives that overflow into the world around us. Sure all fountains need periodic maintenance every now and then. The water in them can get cloudy at times, but is there a joy and wonderment to our lives? Are we living in such a manner that will lead others to the greatest gift mankind has every known? God promised us hope! Hope in a future full and overflowing with Him. If your fountain is running great and beautifully overflowing, then wonderful. Keep it going. If your fountain is down for repair, then fall before the the Lord and restore that old fountain. Ask for the joy and beauty to be brought back into your life.

CELEBRATING CHANGED LIVES:Baptisms/Membership

- I don’t have to fight traffic- Gas for a 150 mile round trip will cost me $15-22 by car by itself- I make fewer decisions (the destination and a good restaurant have already been chosen)- I am surrounded by good company- There are always interesting things to see- I can doze without consequence- Before long, I’ll probably have ice cream

The 2015 Senior Bus Trips start April 17 (Friday) featuring famous stuffed animals, stuffed people (from a all- you-can-eat lunch), a mystery stop, followed by dessert at Ivanhoes. The cost is $15.00 per person (includes lunch). Complete information is available at the Connecting Point. The bus leaves at 9:30am.

Frequently Asked Questions“Why are they called Senior Bus Trips?”- Because no one has been able to come up with a more catchy phrase. This unfortunate title was used once and it stuck. The truth is: trips are open to anyone who loves to have a good time and who has reached the age of 50.

“If I go on one trip, will I be pressured to go every time?”- No. People’s schedules are too complicated for anyone to expect that.

“Can I sign up even though I don’t have someone to go with me?”- Yes. The friendly group that usually travels does not allow anyone to be alone.

“When can I find out about the next trip?”- Publicity and sign-up sheets are available at he Connecting Point at least 4 weeks before the next trip. “Will there still be available seats?”- The bus could easily become full. At BCCC, there are 156 individuals who are over age 65. There are 194 people who are between 50 and 64 years old. You had better hurry. Sign up for the first trip Sunday! Welcome aboard!
