The Prioritized List

1. Digital Camera

The purchase of a professional quality digital camera will be an amazing asset for the GMC-WR Media Center. The Media Specialist is the official photographer/documenter of all campus activities. She is also the student advisor for the campus newsletter. The newsletter is an impressive twenty-page, color and glossy stock finish magazine-style newsletter. The newsletter is prepared in conjunction with the students on campus under the guidance of the media specialist. Having a high quality camera will continue to improve this publication, already a current pride of the media center. The media specialist is also in charge of the community bulletin boards on campus, and often she will update these with pictures from events and activities on campus. She also keeps a scrapbook in the media center of the campus that shes been updating over the years, of which a stellar camera would be a benefit. The school cannot financially afford the services of a professional photographer, and this camera would a great tool for graduation exercises. The commencement activities are assembled in the Home J. Walker Civic Center, where the lighting is terrible and dark. Having a camera of this capacity will allow the media specialist to modify the lighting issues and take quality photo shots to archive. The camera will also be available for student use (under faculty supervision) and faculty use as well.a.) Photoshop and Dreamweaver by Adobe. Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver will be purchased as supplement to the camera. (I know that in listening to the web chat archive, Dr. Allen had said we may use software only if it to be purchased in conjunctions with a peripheral device.) This software is greatly needed to be used with any media center publications or the newsletter that is discussed above. Both would be used in promotion of the media center and campus.

2. Scanner

A scanner will be an additional asset to the media center. There currently is not a single scanner on campus. And there are many requests to the media specialist for this technology by students, faculty and staff. A scanner is used to duplicate materials. There are a multitude of reasons for use of a scanner on campus. 3. Headsets

The media center is in great need of high quality, soundproof headphones for its computers. Students often need to reference videos that are supplements to textbooks, as part of a software activity or even to view YouTube videos that may explain or break down complicated math problems or science lessons. My Selections1. $900.00

Canon Rebel Eos is the camera of choice. This camera is a perfect fit for our schools needs. This is the most affordable, bang for a buck camera of this nature and quality available on the market today. The school already has an early 2000s model of a digital Canon Elph style camera. We are very familiar with the workings of the Canon software and Canon photo editing suite. It would be a smooth transition as far as the media staff and the schools faculty having the ability to download and perform basic editing functions to their pictures. Camera prices change weekly, once you really start looking around for a particular model in accordance with vendor and/and or manufacturer sales, promotions and rebates. Certain times of year, there also seem to be better promotions out there. Overstock has the best rate as of March/April 2009 that I have been able to locate, although the package deal detailed below is on backorder. They also run a pretty regular flat fee of $2.95 for standard shipping, plus there is the no tax element with them also. Overstock would total $601.95. Amazon would total $671.47. Budget of $900.00 will be set aside for the camera. $700.00 will be allotted for the camera and another $200 for batteries and other minor incidentals for the next fiscal year, for a grand total of $900.00 CameraProducts NameComponentsBest Vendor PricingState Contract Options

Through my findings, the best rate is to simply utilize the Education package rate of the Adobe Creative Suite which I feel is best purchased through the Adobe software company.

Web Premium combines Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, Flash CS4 Professional, Photoshop CS4 Extended, Illustrator CS4, Fireworks CS4, Acrobat 9 Pro, Soundbooth CS4, and Contribute CS4 with additional tools and services for $549.00 with no tax or shipping costs for current purchases.

2. $1500.00

A scanner will be purchased and used in the media center with access for all students, faculty and staff on campus. Because of the high volume of scanning and copying potential of a scanner on campus, we would definitely want to invest in something that can handle the workload without breaking down. This particular scanner I selected has come highly recommended by another media center and in I.T. staff personnel. I included a Staples price, because we are encouraged to purchase this type of peripheral through them, but there are better rates online, so I have included both of these to be considered for review.

I have done some research online in pursuit of the best headphone headsets that are SOUNDPROOF. The current ones we are using are in bad shape and are not soundproof. They volume must be set to one of the lowest settings in order to prevent other students from hearing everything. It can be very distracting for students who need quiet for studying. I also find it distracting, when I can hear various audio sounds drifting out of different students headsets and sounds are drifting around the media center. I found that Philips SHN9500 Active Noise-Canceling Headphones are highly reviewed on forums and have some great online discount rates. The $159/each headphones are featured on Amazon.com currently for $36.99 and are eligible for no shipping. Another vendor Dakmart has a fairly comparable price for $39.40. I was not familiar with this business, but it is based out of Florida and seems to be well-received by other customers. These same headphones are often listed for $101-159 on other sites, so I believe these two options are excellent choices overall to be considered.10 headsets could be purchased for approximately $400. This will allow a balance of $100 to purchase sanitary alcohol wipes to be used to once each time for cleaning between uses.HeadsetsProducts NameComponentsBest Vendor PricingState Contract Options
