DIRECTOR’S NOTEA lot of successful filmmakers have had their share of duds.

Few seem to get the kind of “get out of jail free” cards that are dealt to M. Night Shyamalan.

I suspect that has much to do with the overwhelming success of his first jaw-dropper The Sixth Sense. A film that leads you one way only to completely pull the rug out from under you in the last reel subverting everything you thought was real and sending you spinning deliriously trying to recalibrate some sense of reality. You thought you were ahead of things the whole time only to find out the story was actually way ahead of YOU.

That’s a profoundly enjoyable experience…that kind of surprise. The proliferation of eleventy million versions of Law and Order – which operate on that same, “whodunit, I bet you can’t surprise me” — logic attests to it. We eat it up.

And with every new Shyamalan film comes the hope that perhaps THIS will be the one to capture the magic that first one brought us. THIS will be the one to surprise us the way that one did. The promise of that particular kind of magic is something so intensely exciting it’s almost like it’s wired into our DNA.

It’s precisely the kind of twisted magic at work in many Sherlock Holmes stories — and especially the one we’ve had the joy of playing with — Jeffrey Hatcher’s Holmes and Watson.

The ending is many things.

Elementary…is not one of them.

Much like the show you’re about to enjoy, you’ll have a handful of secrets yourself at the conclusion of the evening.

You’ll know the ending.

And then it’ll be your turn to keep the secrets.~ RM

For more than 33 years, Buffalo Theatre Ensemble (BTE) played a major role in the cultural community of College of DuPage and the surrounding area, through the marriage of committed permanent ensemble members, fine Chicagoland artists, and great theatrical works. We gratefully acknowledge the donors who have made it possible to return for our 33rd season. This list of donors reflects contributions made from September 2017 through August 2019. While we carefully prepared this listing, we recognize that errors may occur. Please accept our apology if you are not properly represented on this list and contact BTE at (630) 942-2100 so we may correct our records.

Buffalo Theatre Ensemble (“BTE”) is a 501(c)(3) not for profit, professional theatre company in residence at the McAninch Arts Center (“MAC”) on the campus of the College of DuPage.

But ticket revenues only cover a portion of Buffalo Theatre Ensemble’s operating expenses. The rest must be raised through contributions, the majority of which comes in the form of gifts from individuals like you.

It’s because of our close circle of friends that BTE is able to return and explore new ideas and provocative issues through the production of professional, high quality theater for the enjoyment of its audiences.

The resident ensemble brings professional theatre to DuPage County and at the same time enhances the training of students in Theatre at the College of DuPage, providing opportunities for students to develop their talents alongside working theatre artists. We invite you to become a part of this family of supporters by joining the Friends of Buffalo Theatre Ensemble. For more information, visit btechicago.com. Please consider dropping a gift into the enclosed envelope and leaving it with an usher or mailing back to:
