BENEFITS
Summer school is a fantastic way for year 5 and 6
youngsters to experience Welland Park Academy.
Not only will they have the opportunity to be involved
in fun and educational activities, but they will also be
able to get to know teaching staff and the school
environment.
We have designed a week full of cross-curricular
activities designed to give them a flavour of all
aspects of school life.
They will get to grips with the layout of the school and
familiarise themselves with our great facilities, such as
the newly refurbished Learning Hub, ICT rooms, gym
and our design technology classrooms.
GETTING THE TRAVEL BUG
Create a travel brochure to persuade an insect/bug to come for a visit. What habitats suit certain insects better than others?
FACTOR BUGS
Make super models of bugs whilst learning about factors, multiples and prime numbers. Work in teams to make your own Fun Factor Bugtopia!!
BUG HOTEL
Create your own Travel Lodge/Premier Inn/The Ritz for bugs and insects.
BEE CATCHERS What do you need to have in your garden to
encourage the bees to visit? Make and then plant
your very own bee catcher.
DESIGN TECHNOLOGY
Youngsters will be given a design brief for a design and make activity. Pupils will be
encouraged to use their imagination and creativity in
order to complete the design challenge.
IT’S A BUGS LIFE
A fun session focusing on descriptive writing.
Tell the story of your battle against the bugs, the
dangers you encountered, the insects you met, the
other species and scenery you saw and the friends
you made amongst the bug world.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY Burn some of that energy off with a session of games
and team building.
PIZZA MAKING
Enjoy a delicious pizza!!
This session gives pupils
the opportunity to look,
explore and taste a variety
of ingredients to create
their very own pizza, and
the best part
is- when cooked they can
eat it for lunch!
SCIENCE
Invent your very own insect whilst learning what an insect is and some of the adaptations to their habitat.
BUG CHASE
Do you have what it takes to become a Bug Hunter??
Follow the clues around the school site, in a race against time, to find out where the bugs are and then
save them from extinction.
This is a fun, practical session of orienteering and problem solving.
BUGTOPIA
Pupils will be able to enjoy a visit from Bugtopia
where they will have a chance to have first-hand
experience of touching and holding bugs and reptiles.
A picnic will follow and the opportunity to participate
in some fun activities.
A huge benefit of the
Summer School is
provision by specialist
teachers. Summer
School also provides an ideal opportunity to develop
their existing skills in PE, Drama, use of ICT, Literacy,
Numeracy, Science and Design Technology.
It is a social environment, where pupils will
collaborate with peers from other feeder primary
schools.
Youngsters can be picked up and dropped off at the
front of the school.
Each child should bring a packed lunch and a
refillable water bottle.
