Standardization Benefits
Benefits• Make the product users be sure that the promised characteristics and
quality are indeed delivered.
• Make the end products have consistent quality and that any conclusions made are comparable with all other equivalent items in the same class.
• Standards increase compatibility and interoperability between product
Language definition To make things of the same type all have the same basic features.Technical standardization Standardization is a framework of agreements to which all relevant parties in an industry or organization must adhere to ensure that all processes associated with the creation of a good or performance of a service are performed within set guidelines.

CEN/TC247
CEN / TC247 develops European and international standards for building automation, controls and building management (BACS), for instance:
• Product standards for electronic control equipment in the field of HVAC applications (e.g. EN 15500)
• Standardization of BACS1 functions (EN ISO 16484-3)
• Open data communication protocols for BACS (e.g. EN ISO 16484-5)
• Project specification and implementation (EN ISO 16484-1)
• Energy performance of BAC functions (EN 15232)
.

ASHRAE
13-2015: The guidance for design, document, and specify building automation systems (BASs).
• A careful review of suppliers offering BAS should be made before proceeding with creation the system. BAS products changes more rapidly than HVAC industry.
• Energy conservation and system optimization (e.g. optimum start/stop, demand limiting, VAV..etc)- ASHRAE/IES 90.1 & ASHRAE/USGBC/IES189.1 cannot realistically be accomplished using pneumatic or electric controls.
• Restrictions of use for BAS – UL, c UL restrictions
135-2016: BACnet, the data communication protocol for building automation and control networks.
.BASs: Building automation systems. VAV: Variable air volume.

Highlights for BTL list
BTL: BACnet Testing laboratories.
• Devices with BTL mark are tested by a recognized BACnet Testing Laboratory.
• BTL certifies the associated BACnet objects and services of the device profile, including encoding and decoding of data.

GreenBuilding
• Siemens is a partner of the GreenBuilding initiative by the European Commission, with a goal of implementing cost-effective, energy efficiency potential in buildings. As a signatory to this initiative, Siemens BT must ensure that its customers can achieve a minimum energy efficiency of at least 25% in their building infrastructures..

LEED
• For the past five years, Siemens has also been a member of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) – a US initiative similar to GreenBuildings. LEED continues as a recognized and respected certification, where independent third-parties certify that the building project in question is environmentally compatible and profitable and represents a healthy location for work and living.

Clinton Foundation
• Headed by former US president Bill Clinton, the initiative cooperates with larger municipal governments and international companies to develop and implement various activities to reduce greenhouse gases. Specifically, the initiative informs large cities on measures available to optimize energy efficiency in buildings with outloss of comfort for the residents and users. Here again, Siemens has taken the lead in conducting energy audits, building renovation and guaranteed savings from such projects.

Reference to ASHRAE
Section 4: DIRECT DIGITAL CONTROL (DDC) OVERVIEW
• A BAS is often necessary to meet specifications of sustainability guidelines such as LEED™, Green Globes™, and Go Green™. The BAS allows the user to commission the systems to meet these sustainability guidelines. A BAS will also monitor the various systems to ensure compliance to these standards so that energy savings are maintained over the long term.
