“Our consulting manager of High Performance products is BCIT’s Dr. Jaimie Borisoff. We have recently used Dr. Borisoff’s new ISO-rated wheelchair test rig for testing the durability of our new wheelchair designs. This allows us to quickly test new designs and gather feedback prior to committing to expensive formal testing of new products on the path to regulatory approvals and eventual sales and marketing.”

BCIT FSA: Research At Work, June 2016 11
Traditional research university
professors are measured on:
1. # of peer review publications produced;
2. Amount of tri-council funding obtained; and
3. # of gradate students
Applied researchers are measured on:

• Equipment – Providing products and staff to see how their equipment performs in innovative uses
• Capstone Projects – Students do research for industry as directed studies or capstone projects
– Industry donates a small sum to a student scholarship fund in exchange
