Dublin Providers Celebrate SilverJubilee in Style

This year marks the25th anniversary ofthe founding of the

Dublin Providers Groupand, to mark theoccasion, the companyheld a gala silver jubileecelebration in theBurlington Hotel recently.Befitting the auspiciousnature of the event, theevening was a formalaffair, with upwards of 650invited guests enjoying abeautiful meal anddancing into the earlyhours of the morning. The emphasis throughoutthe evening was one ofcelebration and fun, theformal aspects being keptto a minimum. MarianMaher in particulardeserves full credit for thesmooth and efficientrunning of theproceedings. However, inher brief few words to thegathered assembly, shemade it perfectly clearthat it was the collectiveeffort of all associatedwith the organisingcommittee which made itsuch a success.Jerry Maher, DublinProviders GroupChairman and companyfounder, also echoed this

theme. He paid tribute tothe contribution of allcompany personnel overthe years and also therole played by suppliersand customers in makingthe Dublin ProvidersGroup the force itrepresents today withinthe business. On a personal note JerryMaher is not one to basktoo much in the limelightand tributes in thisrespect were deliberatelylimited. Nonetheless, theexceptionally largeturnout and theatmosphere andconversation whichensued throughout theentire evening left no onein any doubt as to themain driving force behindthe Dublin ProvidersGroup.

The comprehensive range ofcontrols from Potterton Myson isdesigned to ensure completecontrol of home heating. Being intotal control means being in controlof the heating bill ... a reduction inenergy consumption is obviouslyreflected in energy cost outgoings.

Another advantage with PottertonMyson controls is that they arekinder to the environment, not onlyreducing energy consumption butalso reducing significantly theamount of noxious emissions into

The comprehensive PottertonMyson range incorporates threemain methods of heating control time control, temperature controland flow control.

Time Contro/- Potterton Mysonoffers a full range of electronicprogrammers, covering everyconceivable time controlapplication, whether its' the sameheating period every day, differenttimes for weekdays and weekends,or the maximum flexibility ofdifferent times for heating and hotwater every day, seven days aweek.

For those who prefer less complexcontrols the Potterton Mini MinderE and Es offers the high accuracyand reliability of advancedelectronic time control combinedwith an easy-to-use and readc1ockface; you simply move thetappets to the desired "on" and "off'times to allow you to turn theheating/hot water on and off, oneor two periods a day.

allows the temperature of eachroom in a home to be controlledprecisely, automatically and at aminimum cost to the homeowner.Basically the Myson TRV 11 offersan adjustable temperature setting, allowing the pre-selection of thechosen room temperature. Nothingsimpler or more efficient! The twolocking pins supplied as standardallow a one-setting temperaturelimit or a specific range of settings.

Similarly, with the room thermostat, the control is set to the roomtemperature required and thePotterton PRT2 electronic roomthermostat economically, reliablyand without fuss adjusts thetemperature to ensure a warm and

comfortable home. It even has anindicator light that tells at a glancewhen the desired temperature isreached. Like the TRV 11 thetemperature can be locked to onesetting or a range of settings.

The Potterton PTI 2 electroniccylinder thermostat gauges thetemperature of the water in thecylinder and switches the water offwhen the desired temperature isreached. Its most distinguishillgfeature is that, unlike conventionalcylinder thermostats, its remoteelectronic sensor means the PTI 2does not have to be mounted incontact with the cylinder. Thisensures it is completely accessibleand not tucked away in a dark,

corner of the airing cupboard.

Flow Control- The MSV range ofsystem control valves has beendesigned to allow central heatingand domestic hot water incombined systems to bemanipulated separately. So, forexample, there is no need to sufferthe heating to enjoy a hot bath inthe Summer. If required, additionalMSV valves can be used to splitthe central heating system intoseveral circuit or zones to provideeven better control.

Details on entire range areavailable from Potterton Myson(Ireland), Belgard Road, Tallaght,Dublin 24. Tel: 01 - 4590870;Fax: 01 - 459 0880.

The fact that the ISO 9002 systems weredeveloped and implemented from within thecompany (with the aid of outsideconsultants) was crucial, the result beingthat this quality culture is now endemic toFridge Spares. The benefits for customersare enormous with professionalism andattention to the minutest detail underlyingevery single interaction.

There are two core aspects to the serviceprovided by Fridge Spares - consultationand advice, and products. The company hasalways been to the forefront in this respect, guiding contractors in devising refrigerationsolution for each application and thenassisting them in the selection of the mostappropriate product(s) to successfullycomplete the required objective.

Given the dramatic commercial andlegislative changes now governing therefrigeration sector, Fridge Spares' role asadvisors has become crucial, as has itsopenne and willingnes to embrace newconcepts and technologies. Underlying thispioneering spirit is a sen e of confidenceborne out of the security of having such awealth of knowledge, experience and abilityimmediately to hand.

Dermot Byrne's pedigree within therefrigeration indu try in Ireland needs noelucidation. The same can be said ofGeneral Manager Derek Byrne andTechnical Sales Manager Tony Counihan. This triumvirate in particular representswhat is perhaps the strongest force inrefrigeration in Ireland.

Next are the specialist areas of application. For instance, John Brady is a fully-qualifiedbuilding services engineer who heads up thedesign team and liaises very closely withDermot and Tony in devising tailor-madesolutions, complete with CAD drawings, forlarger projects.

Complementing this is a team of highlyexperienced senior personnel ( ee over) anda general staff complement whosecontinuous training and technology updatesmakes the Fridge Spares team as a whole themost professional outfit within the indu try.

Then there is the product portfolio (see rightand over). Right from the outset FridgeSpares has stocked only brand-leadingrefrigeration products and relatedaccessories, making it a policy to supplyonly the highest-quality items available. However, such is its sourcing strength thatthis does not necessarily mean the mo texpensive. Like for like, Fridge Sparesconsistently offers the best value for money.

Nonetheless, this ultra-professionali m hasnot been achieved at the expen of thehuman factor. Fridge Spare has a ju tifiablereputation for providing service with a smileand in a relaxed, courteou manner. Thisaspect of the business has also beenenhanced and carefully cultivated to dovetailwith the "listen and advi e" philosophy

which now permeates all customerrelationships.

The bottom line is a sense ofcooperation and partnership which, while ultra-professional in itsexecution, still operates somethingakin to a circle of friends.

L'UniteHermetiqueThirty-five years of manufacturingexperience has led to the evolutionof the most complete andtechnically- sound range of hermeticcompressors and condensing units inEurope. Such are the inherentstrengths of the L'Unite Hermetiqueproducts that they currently enjoy anastounding volume of succe sthroughout Europe, with a total offour million compressors beingproduced annually to serveworldwide markets in 80 countries.

The secret of this success is not exactlyclosely-guarded, as it is apparent in the qualityof every machine sold. Copper condenserscoated again t corrosion coupled with highelectrical specifications and installer-friendlyfeatures are examples of some of the reasonswhy so many engineers worldwide chooseL'Unite Hermetique as their number one. Thecomprehensive range spans from 1/12 HP to 12HP and covers low, medium or hightemperature ranges utilising a sen ibly selectedrefrigerant composite.

Copeland CorporationAvailable from the Copeland Corporation is thePrestcold range of condensing units andcompressors. The Prestcold brand has thebenefit of many years of experience andexpertise which has placed their machines in amarket position others aspire to.

The broad Prestcold range has continuallyproved itself worthy of its "Prest-igous"reputation while operating in all sectors of therefrigeration and air conditioning markets withgreat reliability and effectiveness. Thecompr ors offi red range from 1/2HP ~ingle

cylinder up to 60HP eight-cylinder machines.

Prestcold is forever dynamic and innovativewhile exploring new research avenue to keepahead of competitive and market-related forces.

MESSAGE:- Why be efficient when you can be effective.

Efficiency measures how well you use your resources.

Effective profit measures how well you achieve your objectives.

To describe this in simple terms, if a man has to load a 15 ton truck with sand he has only ashovel, he works hard, but it takes a long time and a great deal of sweat. Another man does thesame job with a JCB in half a dozen scoops.

When it comes to heating and ventilation the same can apply without you knowing it. Somesuppliers ship the product and from there on 'God direct it'. We put all our internal resources,as a manufacturing company, at your disposal. This ensures that you complete the workeffectively.

Making ProductsQuicker, Better,Cheaper!WorLd Class Manufacturing (WCM)." [n An Irish Context is the title of arecently published book by JohnLynch, Director General, Fas andRichard Keegan who work in themanufacturing consultancy service ofForbairt.

This is an excellent guide for all thoseengaged in manufacturing. It providesclear, ea ily-understood direction onhow to implement the practical, yetrevolutionary, concept of WCM.

World ClassManufacturing is aboutcompetitiveness. It isthe name given to amodern revolutiontaking place in themost competitivemanufacturingoperations in theworld today.

World Class Manufacturing (WCM)is difficult to define. Like quality orelectricity, however, we all know itwhen we see it!

One of the problems in definingWCM is that it is known by differentnames in different countries. LeanProduction, Value Management,Business Process Re-engineering, andTotal Quality Management are eachused in Europe to describe WCMtype proce ses. At a recentinternational gathering, however, thegeneral consensus was that thecommon thread between all of thesenew proces es was that companiesembracing them achieved majorcompetitive advantages in terms ofquality, cost and lead-time.

This book will not try to give adefinitive answer to this question ofwhat exactly is WCM; rather it willgive a guide to understanding theprinciple and, more importantly, some practical element of WorldClass Manufacturing that can beimplemented in your particularcompany. For the purposes of thisbook we will define WCM asfollows:

World Clas Manufacturing meansmaking products - Quicker, Better,Cheaper ". Together.

Trace Heating Opportunitiesfrom JJ Sampson & SonElectric surface heating is the application of heat to the exterior of avessel or pipe in order to maintain or raise the temperature of thecontents it contains. Normally, as much as 90% of the heatgenerated is transferred directly to the medium being maintained orheated and, with suitable temeperature controls, energy is onlyexpended when required.

Other forms of heating such as steam or hot water involve highlevels of expenditure, can be less efficient and are usually moredifficult to maintain.

The standard practice of applying insulation over the heater deviceand the pipe or tank ensures that energy costs are further reduced.

As such trace heating is the perfect solution for many buildingservices requirements and 11 Sampson & Son Ltd has teamed upwith Jimi-Heat - one of the leading trace heating specialists in theUK - to make the the product available in Ireland.

The range is extensive and includes self-regulated and zone parallelheater tapes; heater cables' fixed length heater tapes; heater mats;drum heater equipment; and a full range of complementary controls.Safe and hazardous area applications are catered for with allproducts carrying the appropriate CE markings to meet EMC andlow-voltage directives and manufactured in accordance with therequirements of ISO 9002 and BS 5750.

Principal areas of application are as follows:- freeze protection forrefrigeration plant; pipe freeze protection; process heating;flameproof equipment for hazardous areas; lower temperature tankheating and freeze protection; pipeline transportation; andconstruction industry applications such as ramp heating, roadheating, gutter and roof de-icing, hot water trace heating andunderfloor heating.

Typical examples of applications requiring pipe freeze protectioninclude sprinkler systesm; fire hydrant and hose reel mains; chillerlines for air conditioning; hot water and team trace pipe; safetyshowers and eye washers; domestic and commercial water pipes tohousing areas.
