Our job is to reach beyond your expectations.

Smeal’s line of aerials provide a series of high-performing aerial solutions to meet virtually any fire department’s need, no matter the operational environment. The line features a range of medium- and heavy-duty aerials, ladders, platforms, water towers, and TDAs.

After four decades and more than 6,000 aerials built, we have more combined experience engineering, building, testing, and supporting aerials than any competitor.

A RANGE OF QUALITY RESPONSES.

CP-84 Waterway The strongest, most durable waterway in the industry features a galvanized inner coating that prevents corrosion of the 84,000 psi pipe. The exterior waterway is chrome plated to provide a smooth telescopic movement throughout the entire extension and retraction of the aerial ladder. Aerial devices are also available without a waterway.

Aerial Ladder PerformanceWhether you’re looking for maximum aerial tip load capacities while flowing large volumes of water, you want maximum vertical and horizontal reaches, or you need to set up in tight, congested streets with minimal outrigger spread, our aerials can meet your requirements without compromising safety or full aerial operational envelope.

Creeper ControlsOperating at 12–15 percent of normal operating speed, Creeper Controls allow pinpoint placement of the aerial tip for rescue operations.

Torque Box (optional)Our galvanized tubular steel torque box subframe is designed to prevent corrosion. It also provides ample internal storage for NFPA hose load and ground ladders, which can be accessed from a safe, convenient, and ergonomic height. Ladders come off apparatus at 42" from the ground.

FP-4 Stabilizing System Our unique stabilizing system (available on most models) places the front stabilizers just behind the cab of the apparatus. This forward placement provides superior fore/aft leveling capability on steep terrain, plus easy access to the pump panel, while reducing stress on the chassis. Option not on unit featured below.

Body Mounting Substructure Our hot dip galvanized or thermal spray zinc body mounts come off the torque box and protrude outward to carry the body from the underside of the compartment structure. Additionally, both the upper and lower brackets have rubber blocks to absorb body shock. We also utilize an isolation barrier between different metals to prevent corrosion.

SG-09 Auxiliary Power UnitOur APU option is designed for an industry faced with increasingly strict emission standards and tighter budgets. Utilizing a separate 9kW diesel-powered generator, the operation of the main chassis engine can be reduced while providing all electrical and HVAC capabilities. Option not on unit featured above.

A focus on the firefighter.

If the crew doesn’t arrive on the scene safely, even more lives hang in the balance. At Smeal, we face that reality head on with Spartan cabs that feature the most advanced safety provisions available in the market today.

Built on a solid foundation.

Aerials built on a Spartan chassis are the most maneuverable in the industry, allowing for safer navigation through challenging areas. A Spartan chassis offers the premier foundation, with a lifetime warranty on all frame-rails and cross-members. Construction methods and materials are optimized to create the strongest and most reliable frame on the market. All rails (single-, double- and triple-lined) are galvanized for extra durability. All cross-members are gusseted and mounted with grade-eight flanged fasteners for added strength. A Spartan chassis is built to withstand the weight and years of wear and tear that even the most demanding departments and environments will throw at it.

Spartan Advanced Protection System®.

Aerials with custom cabs feature Spartan’s Advanced Protection System® (APS), the industry’s #1 safety system. Designed and purpose-built, it provides forward-thinking apparatus safety, developed around the needs and protection of the first responder. This market-leading system includes:

▪ Eight airbag positions, the most offered by any manufacturer, including knee and side curtain airbags. These give your apparatus the highest available impact and anti-ejection protection in the industry.

▪ Innovative seat belt systems and outboard sensors that enable an intelligent restraint control, dramatically reducing restraint system injuries.

▪ Ergonomic driver controls that help ensure safe and easy operation of the vehicle, because the drive to a rescue should never require its own rescue.

▪ State-of-the-art HVAC system that cools or heats the cab quickly and efficiently.

▪ Higher rooflines, added hip room and a cab-forward engine tunnel provide more space and comfort for the driver, officer, and crew.

▪ Optional 360º camera to improve sightlines all around the apparatus.

▪ Third-party testing to ensure cab safety from every perspective. We test for roof crush, front impact, roll stability control, airbags, seat mounting and seat belt restraint system validation.

Safe and Spacious Cabs.

Designed with firefighters in mind by offering the most spacious and ergonomic cabs in the industry.

Flat floors, low step heights, and taller, wider cab doors allow firefighters to get in and out quickly at the scene. The Spartan raised roof extends over the driver and officer, making it easier to maneuver within the cab. We’ve even optimized the engine tunnel to increase leg and hip room for the front seats, while giving more floor space to the rear crew. Our cabs can comfortably seat up to 10 crew members.

Designed to be quieter and more comfortable, we’ve maximized every square inch of our cabs without increasing the 99" width.

ERGONOMIC HOSE LOAD (EHL): Our patented, heavy-duty, electro/hydraulic hose loader option improves firefighter safety by placing a maximum of 1,000 feet of 5" LDH within a firefighter’s reach, eliminating climbs on a wet or slippery apparatus to reload hose.

POSITIONAL WATERWAY: Our patented electric positional waterway is an extremely popular option with many fire departments. This feature lets the operator position the waterway to either Rescue or Water Tower with a simple one-step procedure by switching modes from the turntable operator’s position.

RESPONDING WITH INNOVATION.

Page 11: BUILT TO A HIGHER AERIALS STANDARD. · of the platform relative to the ground, keeping the workspace level and platform occupants safer. Spacious working areas (21.5 sq. ft. for rear

SPARTAN SELF-LEVELING (SSL) SYSTEM: After the outriggers are deployed, the truck is automatically leveled with the push of a button. The optional SSL system also stows the outriggers at the touch of a button.

REMOVABLE EGRESS: Bolt-on removable egress for easy replacement. Available in two lengths.

AERIAL LADDER DESIGN: All aerial ladder sections and primary load support members are designed with certified high-strength steel to ensure the highest quality with superior strength-to-weight ratios and minimal aerial ladder deflection.

AL-11 AERIAL LOGIC: A totally integrated system that provides instant feedback on a ladder’s extension, location, retraction, angle, load, and breathing air system status, as well as J1939 engine information.

QL-12 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: Our plug-and-play system reduces the amount of non-plug connectors and makes it easy to add components and make repairs to the electrical system.
