  • FireHawk® M7 Air Maskbuilt with durability & performance

    for critical life-safety personnel

  • Through the NFPA, !re!ghters have strived to improve the durability and performance of SCBA and PASS devices.

To this end, the new NFPA 2007-edition stan-dards for self-contained breathing apparatusand personal alert safety systems call for a PASSalarm that performs at 500º F, electronics thatremain waterproof after six immersion cycles at1½ meters depth and a 350°F heat exposure, and electronics that function after a rigorous 3-hour tumble test. They also raised the bar onvoice communication capability, now requiringa minimum score of 85% at a 10-ft distance (al-lowing an electronic or mechanical system).(Previously this was 72% at 5 feet.)

MSA’s new FireHawk M7 Air Maskrepresents a true technological achievementin critical personal protection. As firefightersdetermined the safety requirements thatwould be needed to meet the new NFPA 1981and 1982–2007-edition standards, MSA’s engineering teams began designing the solutions.

The new FireHawk M7 Air Mask emerged withseven life-safety design components built ona modular Air Mask platform, developed toexceed the new NFPA 2007 requirementsand provide firefighters with the highest-quality SCBA currently available.

    1. Taking the HeatAlthough MSA PASS alarms have performedin extreme temperatures for more than adecade, a top priority was to design an alarmthat could really take the heat! The new M7alarm (patent pending) was developed in co-operation with prominent university acousticexperts, resulting in an emitter that exceeds95 decibels with solid performance at theNFPA 500˚F test!

    2. Virtually “Bullet-Proof”Electronics

Like an armor shield, the M7 HUD, PowerModule, and Control Module are encased in a proprietary high-temperature impact-grade polymer, providing the highest possibleprotection against impact and water ingress. Electronics enclosures are permanently soni-cally welded to a hermetic standard to ensurea consistent water-tight seal. The new M7electronics are virtually "bullet-proof"against fireground hazards.

    3. Straight-TalkCommunications

We’ve got you covered with communications, starting with a high-performance mechan-ical speech diaphragm, with performancethat exceeds the new NFPA requirements as astand-alone solution. Backing the mechanical diaphragm is an electronic amplifierwith an internal facepiece microphone for ultimate clarity. The ClearCommand® Com-munication System provides clear communi-cation during the most critical times. This AirMask speaks loud and clear when it comes tocommunications safety.

  • 4. Fireground Management

Firefighter accountability systems have neverbefore been as practical, complete, and user-friendly as the MSA Accountability System. It’s based on the ICM® TxR Unit introduced inmid-2006, which has thousands of systemsdeployed in virtually every type of fire depart-ment, and they’re performing phenomenally! It displays a full array of visual and audible in-formation for up to 100 firefighters within aone-mile-line-of-site – exactly what incidentcommanders wanted. Record-keeping is alsomade easy by downloading reports.

    5. Extended ProtectionThe new FireHawk M7 Air Mask is not your typical SCBA. Firefighters need tobe prepared for the unexpected, and emer-gency egress from a second floor or highercan be impossible without the right safetyequipment. That's why the new M7 Air Maskoffers an NFPA-compliant integrated rap-pelling system, called the Rescue Belt, provid-ing firefighters with one more lifesavingoption in the face of danger.

"Above and beyond" protection is also pro-vided with the CBRN FireHawk MMR. TheCBRN FireHawk includes a positive-protectionTetraplex™ shield, to prevent contact betweenchemical warfare agents and the most vulner-able component of regulators, the thin elas-tomeric diaphragm. Other "air-wash"approaches may pass in laboratory conditions. This shield provides positive protectionagainst all potential conditions.

External hazards are bad enough without hav-ing concerns of spreading illness among fire-fighters through shared-use SCBA. The UltraElite® facepiece protects you against user cross-contamination with MSA’s inhalation check-valve: a “must have” in modern safetyequipment.

    6. Lightweight and Easy to Use

Firefighters already have enough weight tocarry and gear to maintain, so MSA engineersset out to lighten the load of components, re-duce parts counts, simplify maintenance, maximize user comfort, and modularize thedesign.

The FireHawk M7 Air Mask has a lightweightpolymer backplate, with quick-release harnessstraps, an error-proof cam-lock cylinder at-tachment, fast change-out electronic compo-nents, a large swiveling lumbar pad, andregulators that will fit in the palm of your hand(less than 30 parts for the MMR and 14 for the1st stage). Our time-tested Ultra Elite face-piece has unbeatable comfort, visibility, communications, cross-contamination pro-tection, fit, and seal.

    7. Platform for the FutureThe FireHawk M7 Air Mask is designed to ac-cept future technology upgrades. Includedin every M7 electronics ensemble is a 2.4GHzpersonal wireless network, a network thattransmits and receives encrypted informationover a short range on a firefighter’s body. This new wireless feature provides the capa-bility to add on future technology that canprovide additional information back toincident command through the Accountabil-ity System. You never have to worry aboutradio interference either – we have you covered with a thoroughly-tested RFI shielddesign that protects against all firegroundradio signals. The new FireHawk M7 Air Maskprovides you with the best technology todayand positions you for well into the future.
