Once upon a time ,there lived an old womanin a hut at the edge of thefo rest.
One day, she went togathe r mush rooms, andgradua lly walked deeperand deeper into the forest.
Suddenly, a big, bad wolf blockedher way and said to her : 'I'll eat you I'
The old woman wasver y frightened andreplied : 'What will you getif you eat me ? I am old andskinny. But I have threedaughters : Firm-as-a-Rock,Soft- as-Silk and Sweet-asHoney. Come to my placetonight and I will let youhave one of them.'
The wolf believed herand went away happily.
The old woman hurried backhome. Early in the evening, shelocked her goat in its pen, and tookthe cat and cock with her in the hut.
When it got dark, thewo lf ca me to the o ldwoman's hut. knocked atthe door and cried :

'Gra nd m a, give meyou r daughter Firm-asa-Rock "
The old woman replied :
'Grandm a has boltedand barred the door firm asa rock !'
'Let me have Softas-Silk l'
'Grandma has madeher bed soft as silk.'
The big bad wolf growled angrily:
'Let me have Sweet-asHoney then "
And the old womananswered :
'Gra ndma's d reams willbe sweet as honey.'

That is how old Grandma outwitted the wolf and saved her li fe ; andthe wolf went away into the forestsnarling angrily.
