ABOUT TUNRA BULK SOLIDS

This course is aimed at designers, practitioners and users associated with the agricultural industry. The purpose of this course is to provide participants with an up to date review with salient aspects of the safe storage, handling and conveying of bulk agricultural grains and related products. Topics include; relevant flow properties, silo loads and failures, transfer chutes, dust control, structural members buried in bulk storage systems, mechanical conveying for on-farm and grain terminal applications. Day one is a general overview and day two will cover more specific topics such as silo quaking, load and failure analysis, load control and transfer chutes including DEM. W PROPERTIES

TUNRA Bulk Solids Handling Research Associates (TBS) is built upon the strong foundations of education, research and consultancy in Bulk Solids Technology, which have been in place at Newcastle, Australia for over 40 years.

TBS provides contract research, professional consultancy and education to the resource and process industries, having completed over 4000 research and consultancy projects for approximately 1000 companies in Australia and 40 other countries. The group is averaging over 250 industrial projects per year.

ALAN ROBERTS

PAUL MUNZENBERGER

TIM DONOHUE

Emeritus Professor Alan Roberts AM is the Founding Director of TUNRA Bulk Solids. He is an Honorary Fellow of Engineers Australia, Member of the I Mech. E. (U.K.) and Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. He has received several awards including: Institution Award Medal, Sir George Julius and A.G.M. Michell Medals from Engineers Australia, Solids Handling Award, Institution of Mechanical Engineers U.K.; Lifetime Achievement Award of British Materials Handling Board, Member of the Order of Australia and Centenary Medal. His research and consulting in the field of bulk solids handling spans a period of 50 years. He has published 5 design manuals and over 350 research papers.

Dr Tim Donohue is the Business Unit Manager at TUNRA Bulk Solids. He has completed a number of projects in the materials handling field, with transfer chute design and passive dust control research being particularly important and his current areas of expertise. Through both research and consulting projects he has become proficient with Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) as well as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software, and he utilises them in solving industrial problems.

Dr Bin Chen is a Consulting Engineer at TUNRA Bulk Solids. He has over 10 years consulting and research experience in bulk solids handling, which has involved a combination of design and evaluation, theoretical modelling, CFD and DEM. His activities have covered a broad area of bulk materials handling design and consultancy, e.g. transfer chutes, silos/hoppers, feeders, train loadout systems, stackers and reclaimers, ship loading/unloading systems, and prediction of silo wall loads and quaking.

Dr Paul Munzenberger is a research and consulting engineer at TUNRA Bulk Solids. He completed an apprenticeship as a Fitter and Machinist in early 2001, and spent several years involved in the maintenance and repair of belt conveyors, and other associated coal handing and preparation equipment. He completed his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Newcastle in 2007 with first class honors; whereupon, he assumed his position with TUNRA Bulk Solids. He has just recently completed his PhD in the field of belt conveying technology.
