    MARK 3:1-7 (NIV)

1Another me he went into the

synagogue, and a man with a shriveled

hand was there. 2Some of them were

looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so

they watched him closely to see if he

would heal him on the Sabbath. 3Jesus

said to the man with the shriveled hand,

Stand up in front of everyone.

4Then Jesus asked them, Which is lawful

on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil,to save life or to kill? But they remained

silent. 5He looked around at them in anger

and, deeply distressed at their stubborn

hearts, said to the man, Stretch out

your hand. He stretched it out, and his

hand was completely restored. 6Then the

Pharisees went out and began to plot

with the Herodians how they might kill

Jesus. 7Jesus withdrew with his disciples

to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee

    followed.

    MARK 3:1-7 (NRSV)

1Again he entered the synagogue, and a

man was there who had a withered hand.2They watched him to see whether he

would cure him on the sabbath, so that

they might accuse him. 3And he said to

the man who had the withered hand,

Come forward. 4Then he said to them,

Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on

the sabbath, to save life or to kill? But

    they were silent.5

He looked around atthem with anger; he was grieved at their

hardness of heart and said to the man,

Stretch out your hand. He stretched

it out, and his hand was restored. 6The

    Pharisees went out and immediately

conspired with the Herodians againsthim, how to destroy him. 7Jesus departed

with his disciples to the sea, and a great

    multude from Galilee followed him;

    Fasting

Fasng for the Lenten SeasonThis year, God has called us to Raise Leaders and Develop Disciples. I am calling a church-wide

fast this Lenten season. Fasng is a spiritual discipline designed to deepen our relaonship with

Jesus Christ. We do not fast to lose weight; we fast to be empowered by Jesus Christ. This year

2013, God will reveal Gods purpose and plan in your life, if you dare fast, pray, study, and learn

the power of quiet me. Jesus had to steal away from the crowd and spend me with his Fatherin the mountains to pray, study, reect, meditate and center his spirit. If fasng and prayer were

the disciplines of Jesus should not be followed by us? Join with us this season and witness a

breakthrough as we fast, pray, study, reect meditate and learn the power of Quiet me.

Queson: I have never fasted before?

Answer: Consult your doctor rst! Fasng is not the removal of all food from your diet. Fasng

is learning to discipline your mind, body and spirit to remove something from your life or diet

you know hinders your ability to funcon at your highest capacity.

    Queson: Is fasng biblical?

Answer: Fasng is biblical. Throughout the Old and New Testament, fasng was used by thepeople of God to prepare for a spiritual challenge, hear Gods voice before making a major

decision, or removing destrucve forces in your life.

Fast #1 - Fasng to confront destrucve forces

    February 13 February 19 - Eat all your meals before 6:00 p.m.

    February 20 February 26 - Eat only 2 meals before 6:00 p.m.

    February 27 March 5 - Eat only 1 meal a day

March 6 March 12 - Drink only juices, water and/or tea

March 13 March 19 - Eat only fruits and vegetables before 6:00 p.m.

March 20 March 31 - Slowly begin to add meat to your diet

    FASTING

Fast #2 The Daniel Fast (Taken from the book of Daniel). When Daniel was captured by the

Babylonians, he asked of the Babylonians if he, along with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego,

    Babylonian king.

    February 13 February 19 - All meals before 6:00 p.m.February 20 February 26 - Eat only two meals a day before 6:00 p.m.

February 27 March 5 - Eat only fruits and vegetables before 6:00 p.m.

March 6 March 12 - Eat one meal a day before 6:00 p.m., meat may be added.

March 13 March 19 - Eat two meals a day before 6:00 p.m., meat may be added

    March 20 March 31 - Eat three meals a day before 6:00 p.m.

    our.

Please seek the advice of your primary care provider/doctor before beginning a fast that

involves restricng food/calories and/or medicaon. They can help you design a fasng planthat protects your health and well-being. This is extremely important if you are pregnant orhave a medical condion. Medical condion examples include, but are not limited to thosewho have a chronic disease such as diabetes, HIV/AIDS, hypertension, heart disease, cancer,

inammatory bowel disease, recent surgery, etc.
