The main pipeline in the area burst and the supply had to be turned off. According to MDM spokesperson Tumelo Malaka the problem is receiving the urgent aention of the joined team from the MDM, Lepelle North Water and the appointed ser- vice provider. “The pipe will need a total overhaul and will take the team at least four days to restore the water supply in the area. Malaka said the affected areas will be provided with water from tankers for as long as it takes to fix the pipe line. —Elliot Mathye [email protected] 015 307 1610 • 087 805 9794 TYRES / SHOCKS / EXHAUSTS WHEEL ALIGNMENT bulletin©10073kf150116tb Wheel alignment for all cars and bakkies ONLY R190 Find us at Kew Str 8 BEHIND MAGIC BUILD Always at your service .... 2 0 1 5Dewald van der Walt  Dit is belaglik kon n halwe bier

gekoop het!!!!! Morris Fox Jnr  Dis malligheid man.

Elna Jacobs Wandrag  Ek sal dit betaal as ek net parkeerplek

Lionel Witchell  Hippie, the problem is, I don’t think you’ve

noticed, that the money generated never seems to nd its way into the areas that it should be used for, ie, keeping our town clean and safe.

Hoppie Herbert  R5 is not that bad. If we want to make our town clean

nd safe.i hear people complaning about service at tzaneen but when new methods to generating income for our town are introduced they cry.

Rensce Koekemoer Vd Merwe  Regtig belaglik. En die kans om parkering te kry

is skaars.

Caroline Blessie  Ridiculous e-park system with no shades nor securityKarin Steyn Dit is BELAGLIK!!!!!!!Hans Schouwstra ek bly sover weg as moontlik.Luisa Bettencourt Rodrigues Ridiculous!Erma Janse Van Rensburg  Ek dink dit is belaglik. Daar moet ‹n beter

manier weesMichael James  Dis n geldmaak storie en ek wonder of enige fondse

teruggeploeg gaan word. Een voordeel daar is deesdae weer oop parkering beskikbaar as jy wil betaal bygesê.

Jones van Wyk  Ag tog! Net so belaglik soos Gauteng se e-tol. Wie gaan dit

beheer?

“…Stupidity is a universal… Look, I didn’t grow up despising mankind. I had to learn it…”

Dink jy dit is realisties?• It costs a minimum of R5 (even if only a minute) to park in the central business district of Tzaneen. Do you think this is realistic?

Ms Euphine Mabunda of Giyani Community Radio (GCR) is a toast of her colleagues and listeners across Mopani after claiming second place in the Limpopo Media and Commu-nication Awards. Mabunda is a new comer in the media indus-try with less than six months experience as a newsreader at GCR. She walked away with R2 500 and a Samsung notebook. Mabunda holds a BA degree in communications. “This is ex-actly what I needed to pave the way for my career, and I feel honoured and glad that I man-aged to pull through and put my name and that of my radio station on the map,” she said. “One thing that helped me get nominated is a spirit of trying and willingness to listen to the advice from people I interact with,” she said, encouraging her colleagues to follow suit. Meanwhile GCR General and Marketing Man-ager Cli ord Moraba said the award is an indica-tion that the station is really making a mark out

there. “We are very proud and feel honoured as a new station that is barely six months old to have one of our team members winning an award at provincial level,” he said adding that this showed that the station is “the radio of the people by the people,” as is in accordance with their motto which says ‘We’re the Voice of the Nation’.

Residents of Meloding, a Section in Ga-Kgapane, say they have had enough of the bad smell and ever fl owing raw sewage running through their backyards.

It is nearly three years since resi-dents of this area have been exposed to the sickening sight of sewage waste and smell from unatt ended sewage fl ow. According to some concerned residents, their living conditions are deteriorating. Chil-dren suff er from severe diarrhoea and other related illnesses.

Bulletin visited the township re-cently to weigh up the residents’ complaints. One resident said: “We are tired of being ignored while we live with waste running through

our yards; our children are exposed to the toxic waste of human faeces and the water we used before is no longer safe. We need the municipa-lity to assist us”.

The residents also allege that they had on many occasions engaged with the Greater Letaba Municipa-lity to deal with the issue but they were brushed aside. Greater Letaba Municipality spokesperson Ms Lo-vers Maenetje says the problem with the sewer has been noted and plans to assist the community have been put in place. “The municipality will att end to the problem promptly,” she told Bulletin. “The problem with the sewer at Meloding is that there was a sewer network in the area but some

households were not connected to the main lines, which meant that their sewer could not function pro-perly,” she added.

According to Maenetje, the GLM has been sending a tanker to pump the waste from the sewer but the schedule did not work properly. “We will adjust our pumping sche-dule so that the truck goes constantly to avoid leakages,” she said. “As a long term solution, the department of water and sanitation has made a commitment to reconstruct sewer systems in two sections (Melo-ding and Masakaneng Ext 7) in the 2015/2016 fi nancial year,” she added.

Kontak haar gerus by 084 414 6166 of 015 307 5029.

eie kliënt-terapeutverhouding.

VeiligheidVeiligheid is belangrik by die keu-

Ons Mening The Message

Can we ponder a litt le on Standard Bank’s disturbing Happy Camper U-Count Rewards advert?

Aft er achieving her U-Count rewards, a suburban woman is “talked into gett ing camping stuff ” by her husband; instead of the perfume, coff ee machine and sunglasses she would have liked to buy. Although she hates camp-ing and the untamed outdoors, as the montage sequence proceeds to show, she fi nds pleasure in see-ing her husband and son happy – whom in their ungratefulness, venture to add more torture to her nerves through their silly games.

Firstly, the image of the sacrifi cial mother whose joy in life comes from making everyone else around her (essentially every man) happy, except herself (and all other wom-

en really) is at best ar-guably unrepresenta-tive.

I am wrecking my brain to locate possible origins of this mythical image. It is an image undoubtedly univer-sally portrayed across cultures.

From my Biblical knowledge – which, however, needs some revising — I cannot recall any woman who sacrifi ced her comfort to indulge her family in life’s luxuries. Although to be fair, the Biblical era was heavily patriarchal. Any form of sacrifi ce by a woman was probably the norm and nothing worth of praise.

Both Cinderella and Snow-white’s mothers, in two of the most popular folk tales, die either at the begin-

ning of the story or before the story even starts. Very litt le is said of the nature of their deaths or whether any of them was sacrifi cial.

The one woman who did sacrifi ce comfort to help others is Mother Te-resa. Most of us can also relate stories of our own mothers, grandmothers, and fathers or grandfathers even, who would have moved heaven and earth to help us fi nd comfort in life. However, I doubt any of them, including Mother Theresa, would have happily sacrifi ced comfort to

indulge our greed. If anything, Mother Te-resa sacrifi ced in re-sponse to crises - pov-erty, amongst others.

Hence, the sacrifi cial career woman — a woman who carelessly sacrifi ces — in this case

is a special breed.Secondly, perhaps more than

chastising women from enjoying themselves outside the presence of a man, the image arguably takes away the essence of sacrifi ce. In this case, I am thinking, is it sacrifi ce or self-hate to deny my hungry body chocolate and give it to my child, who should not be eating any more aft er the ten bars he has already had. There are so many women and men who make serious sacrifi ces for

others. We should not make light of the act by equating it to self-hatred or something irrational.

Thirdly, the image normalises pain for women. The notion that a woman’s pleasure comes from pleasing the men around her even sounds ridiculous.

Gender equality is more than say-ing we have laws that allow women to participate autonomously in soci-ety. We also need to restructure our minds and discourse. Television adverts and soap operas have been argued to be more damaging to the image and expectation of women in society than pornography. Society is ever ready to cry-out about the detriments of pornography to the perception of women. It, however, continues to paint the same picture through its everyday discourse.

For crying out loudBy Joy Mojela

We are well into the New Year already. I wonder how many of you made New Year’s resolutions. How many have you broken already? I wonder if any thought to make a “Christian Resolution”? Did you ever think this was necessary or do resolutions only apply to our physical world?

It is necessary at the start of every New Year to consider prayerfully in what way you are going to serve Christ this year. Will it be any diff erent from last year, or will you continue in the same way?

We all need to be spiritually revived each year, to go into the year with faith and hope. God in His mercy has given us a new chance once again to follow Him more closely, to serve Him more diligently. My resolution this year is to try not to repeat the mistakes I made last year, not to use the excuses I did for not doing God’s will for me.

I know this is not going to be easy, because I readily follow

some mad idea that comes into my head, oft en not praying and asking God for guidance. I need to let the Spirit guide me and not try to do everything in my own power. God in His mercy has given me many talents and although age is catching up to me, I know there is so much more I can do to glorify Him.

He chose me at a late age to become a priest, so I know that He has plans for me, all I have to do is to listen to what He is telling me.

How about you? Are you going to listen for His calling this year or will you just think that you are just hearing voices? It is time that each and every Christian stands up and announces that Christ is Lord of all. Only then will our beloved country be saved.

Christ promised “When two or three are gathered in My Name, I will be there” — so come on, let us take this promise serious this year.

I wish you all a blessed, peaceful year and may He richly bless you all.

Ou swembad maak plek vir nuwe

Werk by die munisipale swembad in Tzaneen vorder fluks.

A Tzaneen Primary School badge on an ave-rage seven-year-old boy’s shirt at Lombards Uitrusters in Tzaneen could cost anything from R40. Lombards have the monopoly in supply-ing branded school uniforms in Tzaneen. Bulletin recently window shopped school

uniforms to see how much parents pay to have school badges embroidered or printed on their children’s school clothes.

A size 32 Tzaneen Pri-mary shirt at Lom-bards costs R120. It is the smallest available shirt size. A seven-year-old grade one pupil will pay R79,95 for a size 7-8 years blue shirt without a badge at Woolworths and R54,99 at PEP. The diff erence thus is at least R40 and could be as much as R65!

According to Lombards’ school uniform catalogue, Merensky boys pay at least R135 for short sleeve shirts. An average thirteen to fourteen-year-old pupil pays R110 at Woolworths and R64,99 at PEP for a blue shirt; a diff erence in

price of between R70 and R25. In this case, the necessity of school badges

on uniforms is surely causing pressure on the already pressed down pockets of parents. Or could the school badge be needed to succeed

academically?Price disparities between stores are things parents need to watch out for when shopping for school clothes.

R47,92 is the least parents could have saved when buying

uniforms for a school beginner this year. Dress-ing a seven-year-

old boy of normal size (as per the stores’ stipulation) with grey shorts and a white short-sleeve shirt can

range between R81,98 at JET and R129,90 at Woolworths.

Girls can save at least R43,96 on skirts between the same stores. A

thorough browsing of prices between stores can save parents a lot of money on their chil-dren’s uniform.

Moreover, designated school uniform stores

tend to charge higher than ordinary clothes stores. Girls’ school skirts range between R95 and R120 at Adventure on 11 Lannie Avenue, whereas seven-year-old girls can fi nd skirts for R35,99 at JET. At the same time, Lombards sells Merensky skirts, which are identically plain (without designs), at about R230 for a size 34 girl.

For the same size, girls can fi nd check-to-check skirts for R120 at Adventure. Ben

Voster skirts are about R245 at Lombards.

Below is a table we com-piled for comparison on how uniform prices range

according to stores. ** Bulletin undertook this quick sur-

vey aft er a number of parents of school going children called us to complain

about the prices for school uniforms. “South Africa tries to be a fi rst world country when it comes to school dress. It is unrealistic and many parents simply cannot aff ord the exorbitant prices of branded school uniforms,” they said.

St George College in Nkowa-nkowa is once again among the top three independent schools in Limpopo in terms of matric results for 2014. The school achieved a 100% pass rate; 73 pupils of a total of 74 (99%) obtained Bach-elor pass and one pupil a Di-

ploma pass. The prin-cipal, Ms Joya Varughese, received a trophy and cer-tificate at the provincial announcement of mat-ric results on 6 January. “Hard work and disci-pline are the cornerstones of success and we always set

our target higher,” said the jubilant principal.

The school is also proud of its excellent achievement

with a total of 145 distinc-tions and 168 B symbols.

Sy was in 2001 ‘n Junior Springbok-tennisspeler. Haar missie vir ten-nis by Merensky is om liefde vir die sport te kweek, deur die slag-spreuk “Love to play, Love to compete your heart out”.

The African Paddling Association (APA) held a river guides’ course at the Blyde Adventure Camp this past weekend, and Stanford Lake College pupils and staff members att ended the training. The SLC Outdoor Ad-venture Centre staff of Messrs Haarhoff and Willson and Ms Lize-Marie Engelbrecht accompanied pupils Kemen Tribe, Amy Burman, Ryan Schultz, Keagan van Jaarsveld, Lachlan Truesdale and Marc Stirling.

The objective of the course was to equip prospective

guides with awareness, basic skills and a sense of pro-fessional duty. The course covered practical and oper-ational skills as well as the legal duties of guides. The course was very hands-on and active, with daytime exercises on the river and night time lectures and dis-cussions.

A great deal was learnt and much fun was had by all — once again, a very successful course with compre-hensive knowledge and skills gained.

Amy Burman and Kemen Tribe at one stage experienced some Double Trouble on the Olifants Rivier.

Drie atletiekafrigters van Plasieland, mnre Pieter van der Merwe, Magnus Steyn jr en me Nadia Last, het van 4 tot 6 Desember ‘n internasionale atletiekafrigtingkursus by die Noordwes Universiteit

(Potchefstroom) bygewoon.Verskeie sprekers het gepraat en

dit was veral Dr Henning Gericke se aanbieding, “Delivering on the day and how to manage anxiety”, wat as besonder leersaam deur die afrigters ervaar is.

• Hierby is foto’s wat by die kursus by Merensky geneem is.

Bulletin

Of

“There can be no failure to a man who has not lost his courage, his character, his self respect, or his self-confi dence. He is still King.” — Orison Swett Marden

Krieketkonings!

There must be a reason why the Ebenezer annual open water swim held in March every year, keeps enticing loyal swimmers back year aft er year! Rotary Haenertsburg has been organizing this event for the past thirteen years, with the support of large national corporate sponsors and many smaller local companies and organizations alike.

Rotary Haenertsburg have evolved the management of this event into a professional and slick operation over the years and uses the latest timing methods. Past swimmers and supporters alike rate the effi cient organization, the friendliness of the locals and the beautiful surroundings and pristine water as among the best in the country.

It is a fabulous and enjoyable festive fun day for the whole family in the “great outdoors”. The swimming is one thing — there is also a variety of food stalls, a beer tent and a great atmosphere at the venue of the Mountain Yacht Club on the Ebenezer Dam.

If you have not att ended one of the “Miles” before, here is the lowdown. There are some swimmers who are fi ercely competitive and super fi t for this sport and participate in the national open water swimming circuit for their own personal achievements. They either swim the exclusive 3 000 m or the popular Mile (1 600

m) or both! Then there are the large majority who come out and swim for the fun of it, choosing the Mile or the easy 500 m “fun” course. Kids of all ages can take part.
