Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Week 9 Bulletin gives a great summary of the eventful week that has passed us by. Some highlights have been the Personal Project Information Evening (Year 9) and Exhibition (Year 10). The event that stops Year 11 for one night is the Year 11 Informal and the photos included on the back page of this Bulletin capture the memorable evening these students had Friday. Tonight, we now look forward to the annual Dominican Debating Cup, where Blackfriars Priory School will take on St Dominic’s Priory College. Thank you to Blackfriars Priory School, who are hosting the 2019 Dominican Debating Cup. The debates this evening are as follows;1. The Caleruega Cup (Years 6, 7 & 8)2. The Father Neill Cup (Years 9 & 10)3. The Sr Jillian Havey Cup (Years 11 & 12)
2018 College Magazine has Arrived!Ms Toni Riccio (LOTE Coordinator) and editor of our College Magazine has done an exceptional job, as has the team at Academy. Your daughter should bring home tonight, a great historical record of the year that was; 2018 at St Dominic’s Priory College. Every student who attended the College in 2018 is entitled to receive her copy.
2020 Financial InformationEnclosed in this Bulletin is Financial Information from our Business Manager, Ms Lina Martino. Please direct your attention to these important details. Further information, including External Sibling Discount forms, will be distributed early in Term 4. We are grateful to our Finance Committee members, who are always working and thinking creatively to keep the quality education at St Dominic’s affordable for our families.
October Fete and Raffle Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!Completely sold raffle books have already made their way back to the College and we are expecting many more to come. Perhaps the secret to selling these raffle tickets is the enticing cash prizes up for grabs. I don’t think anyone will say ‘No’ to spending $2, with the possibility of having a return of $1000 (1st Prize).
Sincere thanks to you, parents/guardians who have signed up to help on Fete Day. Traditionally every Year 7-11 student and those Year 12s who are able, will give up time to community service on the day of Fete. This longstanding tradition helps to further develop confidence in our young people and also helps to build on peer relationships within the regular school setting. Link: https://stdo.ms/Fete19
Fairy in a Jar by Jennifer Ngo, Year 7
An enigmatic silhouette, against the pale lights
delicate wings drooping across her arms like a blanket in the cold,
all life seems lost.Until rays of sunlight
burst onto the crystal glass and her heart beats once again
with a spark of hope for the future, like a silver moon amongst the midnight sky.
She is finally let go, her wings spread,
and she waves a little goodbye, with a soft rosy smile and her golden locks,
she flutters away into the evening sky, never to be seen again.
Our Talented, Published Student AuthorsYet again, St Dominic’s students have made the cut. Congratulations to our accomplished student authors. Alex Calica-Chavez, Olivia Jensen, Jennifer Ngo, Emily Trieu, Sophie Ngo and Maeve Moore have had their poems and short stories published in the latest August edition of OZKids in Print. On behalf of our community, I would also like to extend congratulations to mentor, teacher and leader of the Creative Writing Club, Ms Shelda Rathmann. Included on this front page, is Jennifer Ngo’s entry. All students named will be formally congratulated at our upcoming Assembly. To read other pieces, visit: https://www.ozkids.com.au/
Best of LuckWe wish all music students and their teacher, Ms Stephanie Neale, the best of luck as they prepare for the much anticipated Annual Music Concert tomorrow evening at 7:00pm. Tickets are available at the door from 6:45pm.
This Saturday, our 8B Debating Team will be competing in the Grand Final at Parliament House. We wish them all the best with the exciting weekend they have ahead of them.
Good NewsYou may have heard the good news. Sr Jill is no longer in hospital. Her health is steadily improving and she sends her love to all. I am regularly in touch with Sr Jill and she is up to date on all things school and Fete. Sr Jill is most grateful to her beloved community for the support and well wishes she continues to receive.

Congratulations to Charlotte (Year 6), Annabel and Jasmine (Year 7) who were selected to represent North Adelaide in the State Hockey championships which have been held in Adelaide this week.
Estella (Year 6) and Sara (Year 7) recently competed in the SAPSASA soccer carnival. It was a really fun week where we learnt new skills and made a whole bunch of new friends! We played nine games over the four days, and North Adelaide ended up coming 3rd out of all the teams in their division. - Estella
NEWS FROM THE YEAR 6 CLASSROOMTwo weeks ago, we had the chance to meet our Year 7 classmates for 2020. I had a lot of fun meeting new people and getting to know them in many activities that involved drama, PE and the library. We also went on a tour of the high school. It was a great experience for all of us to meet new people. - AnnabelThis term in Religion we created scrapbooks about our lives and the changes we have experienced. I enjoyed have the time to be creative and reflect on my changes throughout my life. Everyone had an amazing time making our scrapbooks and can’t wait to bring them home. - Jasmine

On Friday our class went to a Hindu Temple. We took our shoes off before going inside. Everyone enjoyed it. There was lots of gold decorating the temple. We got to draw a picture of one of the shrines. We loved our visit. - By HannahWe had a great time. There were lots of different colours. They have many different shrines for different Gods. I am sure that all the girls loved it.

Outdoor Classroom Revamp! After some hard work and class fundraising, we are excited to welcome girls to enjoy the ‘new-look’ outdoor classroom. And our plans are growing! We would like to make it even more user-friendly and decorate with some wall-hangings and other furniture. Any donations of the following (new or used in good condition), would be greatly appreciated:• Games, books/magazines• Long lengths of lace, textured wool,
ribbon or strips of cotton/sheeting in white/cream/pastel colours
• Feathers or beads with very large holes in similar colours
• Outdoor furniture Donations can be sent to the Year 4
Classroom, or email [email protected]
We thank Gavin and Ms O’Leary for their support and assistance. We are excited to see students already using the space for a variety of purposes; from study, to relaxation, chatting, ukulele practice and sing-alongs!

Whilst the end of the school term is quickly approaching, the momentum is still continuing. The highlights for
Week 9 are: Year 6 Scrap Booking presentation, Year 4 Travel Agency Expo, Year 2 A Night in India class presentation and shared meal, and Year 3 Pirate Day.
We thank our Year 1 Class for leading us in our Tuesday Assembly. They confidently kept things moving and enthusiastically shared their learning with us. The Reception Class will host our next Assembly in Week 3, Term 4.
This is our last week for Thursday Night Netball and we are very grateful for all the support parents, coaches and teachers have given during the highs and lows of the season. All of our teams have been fortunate to have positive, enthusiastic coaches. We thank Sonya Muller, Tammy Lee Zappia, Robbie Sutton, Trung Tran and Phong Huynh for their support. We are planning a celebratory pizza lunch with the girls on Friday Week 10.
We are getting to the nitty, gritty end of Children's University. Your daughter will need to be checking her passport to see that she has the minimum 30 hours to be able to graduate on Monday 11 November. All passports have been checked at school this week and Graduation invitations have been issued to students currently elligible. The final date for completion of hours is Friday 18 October.

Jasper Jones / Girl Asleep Year 10, 11 & 12 DramaOver the past two weeks, students from Years 10, 11 & 12 have been fortunate to attend two very diverse pieces of theatre.
The first Jasper Jones was an adaptation of Craig Silvey’s classic Australian novel and the second a performance of Girl Asleep presented by Windmill Theatre Company.
The girls really value and enjoy the experience of seeing the elements of drama come together on stage and we hope,
particularly for our Year 12s who have now had their last excursion, that they continue to engage with the excitement and beauty that is live theatre.

T he pu r pose o f t h e Yea r 9 Information Session was to inform students and parents of the expectations of the Personal Project and plant the seeds of creativity and begin the first steps in the process of enquiry. It also allowed parents and students to view the vast range of Personal Projects that the Year 10s completed.
The Exhibition section of the evening gave the current Year 10 students an opportunity to display their Personal Projects to their peers, parents and members of the school board. A wide range of work was proudly displayed by students ranging from original paintings, charcoal portraits, cook books, help booklet for students starting High School, creating upcycled plastic bags, websites, blogs, composing an original music, performing and create an original choreographed dance routine and much more.
