Bulletin boards can be used to reinforce instructional goals,

communicate essential information, include and motivate students, and

to make the classroom a more appealing place. Bulletin boards

should be attractive, have an objective, and should often be used

to display student work.

BULLETIN BOARDS

Page 2: Bulletin boards can be used to reinforce instructional goals, communicate essential information, include and motivate students, and to make the classroom

Have your students write their own names on the bulletin board or have them draw their name on

pieces of paper, and then staple it around the pencil on the board. This bulletin board allows the students to feel like they are welcome in your classroom.

Students will enjoy being able to help “decorate” the classroom.

This idea is to be used at the beginning of the school year, place students’ names in one of the bubbles or allow them to write their own names. By allowing the students to help create the bulletin board helps to form a classroom bond. Students will like doing an activity centered on them.

This bulletin board idea can be used for good behaviors. Create the bulletin

board by using old jean pockets. On the outside of the pockets, they represent

good morals or behaviors that the students are performing. Monitor and

keep tickets on students that are performing those good behaviors in that

particular pocket. It is a fun and meaningful for the students that adds texture, creativity, interactivity, and teaches students to be conservative

with the bulletin board.

PERFORMING “JEAN-IUS”

Page 5: Bulletin boards can be used to reinforce instructional goals, communicate essential information, include and motivate students, and to make the classroom

This bulletin board is used in the fall for performing good behaviors. The board is a

football field with yard makers. Each student has their own football player and

each time they finish a goal or stay on task(which ever works best for your

classroom) they get to move their football player 10 yards. I would attach the

football player by using Velcro. Once a student reaches the goal line, he/she get a

reward. This is a great motivation and helps keep the students focused and on

task.

This bulletin board helps you keep your classroom organized and can also go along with classroom rules

and responsibilities. The board allows students to see their job

and the classroom helpers for the day/week. It can be changed as needed but could be used year-

round.

COLORFUL HELPERS

Page 7: Bulletin boards can be used to reinforce instructional goals, communicate essential information, include and motivate students, and to make the classroom

This bulletin board can have a variety of names “Star Student”, “All

About Me”, or “Student of the Week.” Each week a different

student is selected to fill up the board incorporating pictures and

other artifacts that describe them. This gives each student a chance to show who they are to the rest of the class. It also helps classmates to get

to know each other.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Page 8: Bulletin boards can be used to reinforce instructional goals, communicate essential information, include and motivate students, and to make the classroom

After finishing a year, students would be advancing to the next level and/or middle school transition. Cut out and laminate pictures of places, real and

imagined, that could represent popular places that they may go in their life.

For example, cut out pictures of a high school, college, Eiffel tower,

Washington D.C., etc. Also, have the students post their own ideas or places they wish to go. If there is not a picture of their place, students would be able to draw or print off one of their own to

add to the board. Molly O’Brien

The background is a large flower. Additional flowers are placed for each

student, the petals will represent good manners, and in the middle part

of the flower is the description of their achievement. This bulletin

board would show students visually meeting their goals and

accomplishments. Also, it will allow your students to see different parts of

the world through your own imagination.

ARE YOU MANNERS BLOOMING?

The background is on a door. However, I would put this idea on a bulletin board. I

would use this as a “Welcome Mat” to my students and parents that walk in the

classroom at the beginning of the year. This first time that my students came to visit, I

would take pictures of my students. I would include the names of my students along with their birthdays. Then you could include their character goals and achievements. This way

you could keep it up year around. I would change the title: “Hats Off To All Of Our

Students.” This would allow your students to see who is in the classroom along with giving them a sense of importance and

feeling welcome.

HATS OFF TO A NEW YEAR!

Page 11: Bulletin boards can be used to reinforce instructional goals, communicate essential information, include and motivate students, and to make the classroom

The “How Am I Doing” bulletin board involves the students by pinning up

their accomplishments or goals. I would use a T-chart; on the left side I would

put their goals, and the right side they would move the sticky notes to the

other side after they meet their goals. I would leave this up for my students and parents so they could visually see their goals and accomplishments. Also, this

would allow my students to see accomplishments of all the other

students.

Tree of Principles: The interactive bulletin board involves the students by pinning up leaves of the good principles of attitudes. For each time that a student performs a good attitude, they would place leaf explaining their good attitudes. They would fill up the tree throughout the year with leaves; students would be showing good attitudes and personal growth. This would show students visually displaying goals and accomplishments. This can also, allow your students to see the accomplishments of all the students throughout the year. It is important that students remember their accomplishments of the good attitudes that they performed.

M-mm Good Behaviors: I would include all my students’ pictures in this bowl of soup along the ingredients of good behaviors or character goals. On one side of the bulletin board it says “Our-brainy soup.” I would monitor who was performing what good behavior ingredient from our bowl of brainy soup. This visually would project to them that they are the brains in the classroom and making good chooses. This bulletin board would promote a good self image along with inspiring them to learn. I would leave this up so students could see that I think highly of them.
