Bulletin Volume 84 No.29 February 4 2013 Rotary Club of Sale Rotary District 9820 Incorporated Last Meeting – Kevin’s European Odyssey – February 4 Last meeting Kevin Maxfield, suitably prompted by Maria, talked to us about the wonderful European trip that he and Maria took last year. It was a most entertaining, interesting and revealing night, with Kevin admitting to becoming something of an anglophile, being particularly taken by London. Their trip centred upon England, Ireland, Holland and Paris, but art lover Kevin surprisingly did not visit the Louvre. Maria was able to visit the family home while in Holland and Kevin covered many interesting engineering features of Holland, including reclaiming land from the sea. We also saw their version of a life saving clubhouse on the North Sea coast (Alan, please note). Such presentations, supported by the obligatory slides, have a bad reputation but Kevin’s was a notable exception and all in all we had a fun and memorable night.

Other Matters President Lyndon welcomed guest Jodie Willis to the meeting, who will have an advisory role for our forthcoming Fund raising Dinner in May – a committee meeting was held after our normal meeting. Lyndon also formally congratulated Betty Langley on her birthday, Noel marking the occasion by taking her out for dinner with us, again. Adrian circulated a list for members to nominate for relay for life. David Strauss has been appointed coordinator of our meal preparation support for Blaze Aid volunteers at Maffra on Monday nights. He circulated a list for volunteers, three per night, which was filled before the night was out. He will publish the list to us all. The Medical Report President Lyndon is back with us but still in recovery phase and, as we saw, Mike Smith is back with as much cheek as ever. Margaret Vitlin is undergoing surgery this week, so spare a thought and prayer for her and Mark. Late Bulletin The Bulletin is a tad late this week due to home duties associated with our house being on the market, and, contrary to what Sergeant Sharyn said, I do not have a Collingwood poster on the bed head. However, agent John Elliman and I knocked back an offer on the house because the prospective buyers were Carlton supporters. Next Meeting –February 11 - The Life and Times of Squadron Leader Kevin Smith Although Kevin has only been with us for about a year, he has been in Rotary before and has served in many roles – he is a very experienced Rotarian. While Kevin is here in Sale with the RAAF, his wife Vicki and his son remain in South Australia due to work and study commitments, requiring him to make frequent trips westward. We look forward to Kevin’s talk, which traditionally we have called a “Job Talk” but this will be much more.
