Letter from Anne Marie Zon

I recently received a thank you note from Anne Marie Zon that she wanted me to share with all of you. Here it is: Dear Friends

Once again, you have done marvels in your collection of goods for Nicaragua -a mission

people. And once again we are deeply grateful. We thank all those who’ve brought items- all

those who so diligently sorted and packed the goods-all those who kept the momentum going.

Loading the container worked like a charm. The help was outstanding and beyond willing.

Thank you for your generous funds. Your sharing will touch lives beyond your imagining. May

Our Lord’s goodness to each of you be beyond your hopes and meet all your needs.

Anne Marie Zon

A letter from Bishop Matano In the bulletin, two weeks ago, there was a letter from Bishop Matano addressed to the people of the Diocese of Rochester concerning his response to the sex abuse scandal in the Church. This past week I received a letter from Bishop Matano addressed to the priests of the Diocese. The letter was in response to an invitation from Pope Francis. In it he says, “I ask all the priests of

the Diocese of Rochester observe September 14, 2018, the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy

Cross, as a day of penance by the priests in our Diocese. I ask that as we offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on that day, we plead the Lord’s mercy for grave the offenses committed and remember especially the innocent victims of sexual clergy abuse, the faith of our people, the purification of the Church and the renewal of the clergy.” In keeping with the Bishop’s request, this Friday September 14 Fr. Roy, Fr. Michael and myself will concelebrate the 8:30 Mass at St. Patrick’s, keeping in mind all the Bishop has asked us to pray for. The Bishop also asked that “parishes provide opportunities for adoration of Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament, offering the consolation of the Sacrament of Reconciliation…” To that end we will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after Mass followed by confessions and then Benediction at 10am. Please come join the priests in prayer. Fr. Jim

STEWARDSHIP CORNER

September 9, 2018

23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time “Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he

promised to those who love him?” (JAMES 2:5)

What is more important – being rich in faith or rich in possessions? Society teaches us that possessions are most important. God teaches a different lesson. When we are rich in faith, we keep God first in all things and realize that material things really don’t matter and that it’s more important to share with those who have less.

CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT WORKING ON THE MARGINS

Next week, our second collection will be for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Over 43 million people in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports programs to empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to bring permanent and positive change to their communities. In 2017, the parishes of the Diocese of Rochester contributed a total of $102,329 to CCHD. As of June 30, 2018, the diocesan records show that our parish contributed $1687.30. We thank you for your support. Learn more about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development at www.usccb.org/cchd/collection.

Received in the mail this week:

Your support of the Seneca County House of Concern helps us to provide an average of 16,000 meals and other necessities to more than 1000 Seneca County residents each month. Together, we feed minds with knowledge, stomachs with food and hearts with hope! On 8/23/18 we received $291.64. Thank you for your continued donations. The House of Concern Staff
