BUK Most Crises-Free and Cult-Free
University – Col. Kukasheka
The Director of the Army Public Relations,
Colonel Sani Usman Kukasheka, has applauded
Bayero University for been the most crises-free
and cult-free University in Nigeria.
Delivering a paper on “Crisis Communication
for Security Consciousness - A Case Study of
Nigeria” at the first Reunion/Inaugural Annual
Lecture of Class 1992 Alumni of Mass
Communication Department, Bayero University,
he said Nigerian military and intelligence
operatives were in all local government areas of
the country.
Colonel Kukasheka, however, said at the
occasion, which took place on Saturday,
November 28, 2015 at Dandatti Abdulkadir
Twin Theatre, New Campus that the citizens
should not only rely on security for protection,
but should be security conscious and provide
useful information to relevant security agencies.
He said “from the kind of intelligence we
receive regularly from the military and security
operatives, the citizens need to be proactive and
security conscious while the media intensify
campaign on same”.
The Director said internal security challenge
was everywhere. The US, the UK and France,
amongst others face similar challenges. The
difference rallied around the management of
threats by the government and the citizens, how
knowledgeable they were and how patriotic and
united their citizens were against threats of
insecurity and crises.
Colonel Kukasheka said the mentioned
countries were never divided on politics,
ethnical, religious or on professional ground
when the interest of their nations was at stake,
saying that if Nigerians wanted to build a nation
of good brand they had to work for it.
He urged the media to perform its leading role
of mobilizing and enlightening the public on the
true situation in national war effort to guarantee
national security. He said their reports must
focus on nationally unifying factors.
“In the on-going war on terror for example, the
media must focus on atrocities of Boko Haram
terrorists, the monumental humanitarian crises
and promote efforts of the Nigerian Army and
other security agencies in bringing the carnage
to an end”, he disclosed. He urged the citizens to
be extra-vigilant and security conscious with the
approach of the Xmas and New Year seasons.
The Head of Mass Communication Department,
Dr. Balarabe Maikaba, commended the Class
1992 Alumni for initiating the annual lecture
and for donating copies of text books to the
department.
Also speaking, Dr. Hajara Umar Sanda, a
lecturer at the department and member of the
class ’92 commended the speaker for delivering
a timely paper, as well as the Management for
the overall development of the University,
2
saying that the turnout at the occasion had been
very encouraging.
BUK Boosts Morale of Athletes
The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University,
Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello, has
assured that the management would continue to
provide the enabling environment for its sports
men and women to excel in major sports
competition.
Professor Yahuza Bello was speaking when he
received the Vice-President, North West zone of
the Nigeria Taekwondo Association, Barrister
Sa’ad Adam Abubakar in his office on a
courtesy call on Friday, 27th
November, 2015.
He said it was not by accident that BUK sports
men and women had been excelling in recent
times, adding that such successes recorded by
the university’s contingent might not be
unconnected with the efforts of the management
at providing them with the enabling
environment. ‘This we shall continue to do,’ he
promised.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that the university
management knew the importance and role
sports used to play in keeping the body healthy
which why he said in order to encourage staff to
keep their body healthy by engaging in various
forms of exercises that the management built a
recreational centre for staff relaxation and
exercises.
Speaking on the Taekwondo Legacy seminar
which BUK was hosting, the Vice-Chancellor
thanked the executive of the association for
choosing Kano and BUK for the hosting of the
North West zone, and assured them that BUK
management was willing to assist the
association any time such need arose. He wished
them a successful and hitch-free seminar.
Earlier, the Vice-President North West of the
association, Barrister Sa’ad Adam Abubakar,
told the Vice-Chancellor that the game of
Taekwondo came to Nigeria about 30 years ago
and was only visible in the southern part of the
country particularly Lagos.
He said it was in an effort to unify the game of
Taekwondo and make it national that the
Nigeria Taekwondo Association organised a
Legacy seminar to be held in each of the
country’s Geopolitical zones, adding that
already the seminar had taken place in 4 zones;
South-South version took place in Calabar,
South East in Enugu, North Central in Makurdi
and South West in Ibadan and ‘today we are
witnessing that of North West in Kano.’
Barrister Abubakar said Kano State presence
was felt in Taekwondo when it was represented
at the Olympics plus the interest BUK showed
in the game. These according to him were the
reasons why the Legacy seminar for the North
West zone was allocated to Kano and BUK in
particular to host.
He thanked the BUK management for agreeing
to host the seminar.
The Taekwondo Association through its North
West Vice-President, Barrister Abubakar
presented a Plaque to the Vice-Chancellor in
recognition of his support for the game of
Taekwondo and a Black Belt for the honour in
hosting the Taekwondo Legacy Seminar.

Fall in Fuel Prices Internationally May
Be a Blessing To Nigeria – Dr. Shevel
President, Galilee International Management
Institute (GIMD), Israel, Dr. Joseph Shevel, has
predicted that fall in fuel prices in the world
market may be good to Nigerian economy.
Dr. Joseph Shevel who spoke when he paid a
courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Professor
Yahuza Bello, said too much dependence on
crude oil by Nigeria at the expense of
agriculture was the major reasons why her
economy remained backward.
According to Dr Joseph, it has now become
imperative that oil alone would not be able to
provide Nigeria with the required income to
carter for her needs. Therefore, it had become
necessary to diversify as a means of getting
more income.
The GIMD President said if Nigeria could take
Agriculture seriously the economy would
develop within a very short time.
‘I assure you Kano State alone considering its
Dams and large expanse of fertile land will
produce enough food for Nigeria,’ Dr. Joseph
added.
On why he was in Kano, Dr. Joseph Shevel said he
came to sign MOU with Kano State government on
training of 100 youth on irrigation by his institution.
He prayed that his visit to the university would
strengthen the relationship between Bayero
University and his institution.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Professor
Muhammad Yahuza Bello, who was represented by
the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Professor
Sagir Adamu Abbas, thanked the president for the
visit.
He said a lot of BUK academics including the Vice-
Chancellor attended different courses at the Galilee
International Management Institute in Israel. He
promised that more staff would attend the institution
in the very near future.
