BULLETIN Friday 19th May Term 2 Week 3 2017 That Stinks Every now and then, and usually a few times a day, a truck full of pigs will head up Lyndoch Road. Sometimes these trucks head down the hill (which is probably a bit confusing for the pigs as well) but whether they are heading up or down, the smell is the same. It stinks. (It's a bit like a toddler who races down a big slope and takes an enormous tumble.... You hold your breath and count....one...two...three. And then it hits.) Life itself can be a bit like that pig truck - generally it's pretty good but sometimes when it's loaded up, it just stinks. Relationship breakdowns stink. Losing your job stinks. Bad health stinks. But what stinks the most is when we lose someone we love to death. This week our bible focus story is the raising of Lazarus in John 11: 38-44 and it’s the time when Jesus shows that he has absolute authority over all things, including death, when he raises his friend Lazarus from the grave after a couple of days. Mary and Martha thought the whole thing stunk - Lazarus was dead, Jesus was no where to be found and hope seemed to have disappeared quicker than a bad smell in a fan factory. But Jesus showed to them that we need not fear death as he is the Resurrection and the Life. (I don't know about you, but death scares the life out of me. The raising of Lazarus is a great story to remember when life just seems to stink a bit.) That Stinks Every now and then, and usually a few times a day, a truck full of pigs will head up Lyndoch Road. Sometimes these trucks head down the hill (which is probably a bit confusing for the pigs as well) but whether they are heading up or down, the smell is the same. It stinks. YEAR 4 CAMP

In week 2 the year 4 students enjoyed 3 days at Woodhouse Activity

Centre, Piccadilly. Here is what they thought!

Do you know a teacher who has gone above and beyond? One who has left a lasting impression on the lives of their students? The A Day Made Better Teaching Awards is your chance to acknowledge a primary or secondary school teacher for the impact they have made. If chosen as one of 10 winners, they’ll receive a fantastic prize pack valued at over $6,000 plus an Apple iPad for their school. More importantly though, they’ll receive the recognition they deserve, which will put a smile on their face. So if you have a teacher you’d like to recognise, do so by nominating them today.

May 2017 Dear Parent & Caregiver ADDRESS COLLECTION DATA The Australian Government Department of Education and Training is currently undertaking the 2017 Student Residential Address Collection. As a parent/guardian you do not need to provide any information directly to the department. The only thing you need to do is ensure your address details are up-to-date with our school. If you need to update your child’s/children’s residential address details, please contact Jenny in the school office. We will provide the department with de-identified address information for all of our students’ families. This means we will provide addresses but no student names. Frequently Asked Questions from parents: Why is the collection being done? The department is collecting student residential addresses for all non-government schools. This is part of a routine process that occurs approximately every four years, with the last collection undertaken in 2012. The collection is done in line with the Australian Bureau of Statistics Population and Housing Census. With the Census data being released later this year, it is timely for the department to update its data. What do I need to do? Nothing! You don’t need to provide any information to the department – our school will do this on behalf of all of our students’ families. However, please make sure your address details are up-to-date with our school. Is my personal information secure? Yes. The school provides the department with de-identified student residential addresses. The department will not see personal information that identifies individual families. The sheet overleaf is the actual notice from the Australian Government Department of Education and Training (the department), regarding the Student Residential Address Collection, and it is a requirement for our school to provide a copy of this to all school families, via a Newsletter, email or website document. Regards Daryl Trigg Principal

2017 Student Residential Address Collection

This notice is from the Australian Government Department of Education and Training (the department), to advise you that the department has requested your child’s school provide a statement of addresses, in accordance with section 21 of the Australian Education Regulation 2013 (the Regulation).

A statement of addresses contains the following three pieces of information about students at the school:

Students’ residential address (not student names or other identifying information)

Students’ level of education (i.e. whether the student is receiving primary or secondary education)

Students’ boarding school status (boarders or day students)

Authority for and Purpose of Collection

Consistent with previous practice, and following the 2016 Australian Bureau of Statistics National Census of Population and Housing (Census), it is timely that information held by the department is updated in order to ensure that Australian Government funding calculations for your child’s school are accurate.

Under section 21 of the Regulation, a statement of addresses must not explicitly identify an individual student. Accordingly, all information in the statement of addresses provided by your child’s school to the department is de-identified.

Use and Disclosure of Information

It is important to ensure the statements of addresses are accurate, and the department may from time to time carry out audits of statements of addresses to verify their accuracy. In the event of an audit, the department’s contracted auditors may seek to compare a school’s statement of addresses with student enrolment information held by the school for the purpose of verifying the information. The department’s contractors will not use the information for any other purpose.

Any further use and disclosure of information relating to the statement of addresses will occur in accordance with section 65 of the Regulation.

Contact

If you have any questions regarding this notice, you can contact the department by:
