Khell Van Der Lith Dis ’n uiters blabs idee. As ek by Steers my Vrydag-burger gaan koop gaan ek wragtag nie deur Lifestyle Centre terug ry dorp toe

nie.

Coenie Scheepers Snr Dis ’n gemors.

Monica Swanepoel Een groot gemors.

Waar in jou

Louise Van Blommestein  Dit maak mens deurmekaar, ek’t nou die dag daar gery, wou gou vinnig by Sasol stop.

Craig John Woodward  Besides the “strange” decision to erect this ridiculous island, has anyone bothered to think of the implications should a

truck hit this island in front of a petrol station?

The

island should be rebuilt to give safe entrance and exit to Sasol so that it becomes an asset.

Chris Pretorius As ek n ongeluk maak by (daardie) middel man waar daar geen tekens is nie dan gaan ek darem iemand lekker dagvaar en (daardie)

Hendra Gouws Dangerous living in Tzaneen.

Debbie Beukes Blow up the island and give Sasol fair business! We all know money passed the palm again and may that bring that person no luck

whatsoever. I will support Sasol even if I have to circumvent the town.

Thea Gerber  Dit is eintlik baie maklik.

Oor homself natuurlik.

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s management consi-der claiming for damages against the SA Municipal Work-ers Union (Samwu) after Wednesday’s strike action, when members of the union stormed the GTM’s of-fices and caused havoc (visit www.bulletin.us.com for a video of the incident). The workers downed tools on Wednesday, demanding salary increases and the removal of the acting director of corporate services, Mr Thulani Twala.

The strike was led by the provincial leadership of both Samwu and Cosatu. Workers barricaded streets and burned rubbish bins. The Tzaneen CDB was brought to a standstill and traffic was disrupted as the march moved to the GTM’s of-fices. They were chanting revolutionary songs and calling senior officials derogatory names. Some were carrying placards with offensive slo-gans, like: “Greater Thulani Municipality sucks down” and “Greater Thulani municipality is run & controlled by thugs”.

The Exco members were chased out of the GTM’s building. Workers also damaged prop-erty of the GTM.

A senior official who wished not to be named for fear of victimisation, said “we are tired of tenderpreneur councillors, managers and directors”.

Samwu’s leadership refused to hand over the memorandum to the mayor, accusing her and the council of undermining their griev-ances. Mr Simon Mathe, Samwu’s provincial leader, said the memo will be submitted to the MEC of local government. He also warned the mayor that some within the council are targeting her position.

• The Bulletin has a copy of the memo. “The mayor must be told that there are

some within the council who want her posi-tion. They think they are better comrades.”

Mr Dan Sebabi, Cosatu’s provincial secre-tary, said the GTM is the only municipality in the country where corruption is so rife. “Poli-ticians share tenders under trees and people without matric become directors,” he said.

Sebabi didn’t mention names. However, it is understood that Mr Thulani Twala, the acting director of corporate services, does not have the proper qualifications for the post. Twala has since declined to comment, saying allega-tions made against him are personal. Asked

about the damage caused, he said the GTM would evalu-ate the degree of the damage and determine what action should be taken.

Sawmu is also accusing the GTM of paying their workers peanuts. “The union realised that the GTM has one of the worst salary struc-tures in the country. The gap between a man-ager and the next lower level is about R450 000. Some managers are earning more than their directors,” according to the memorandum.

Samwu also accuses the GTM of tender irre-gularities and of employing unqualified peo-ple in senior positions. The union wants the GTM to pay workers the same salaries as other municipalities in the same category.

Ms Dekeledi Mmetle, the mayor, said she was surprised by the march. She says the union’s de-mands are beyond the capacity of the GTM. She added that the GTM is working hard to change the system that’s currently used to pay workers. Mathe warns that they will call for an indefinite strike if their demands are not met.

Slegs drie hektaar afgebrande plantasie is aangemeld.

Each of the 168 learners received shoes and socks, trousers or skirts, shirts, ties, and pullovers for winter. This was part of the district’s celebration to mark and remember the June 16 Youth Day, and partly to encourage the school to do more after it managed to improve its matric results from 30% to 74,3% last year. The school made the news last year in January when it was discovered that more than 25 pupils were pregnant. “You may have been the laughing stock of the country after last year’s incident, but you managed to turn things around. To me, that is commendable and I hope you will not just remain there, but will improve even more this year,” he said. The chairman of the school’s governing body, Mr Moses Zitha, ex-pressed gratitude for the donation, saying it would improve morality with the pupils who previously did not have uniforms. Mr Sipho Sebela (28) from Burg-ersdorp near Lenyenye has be-come an almost instant hero.

On Monday he saw a police ve-hicle collide with a VW Golf. The police vehicle had two prisoners who were to appear in court. Se-bela ran to the scene to save the people who were involved in the accident.

He found the two police men in-jured and helped them out of the vehicle. The two prisoners were still locked up in the police ve-hicle and he unlocked the vehicle.

He realized that the prisoners were not hand-cuff ed and he hand-cuff ed them and took the gun that was lying on the fl oor.

“I just wanted to save the peo-ple as I thought that the car was going to burn,” he said. The two prisoners were later taken to the Letaba Hospital and were treat-

ed for minor injuries and taken back to the Hoedspruit prison. The two policemen are still in Mediclinic Tzaneen.

The Police rewarded Sebela with a R4 000 cheque as a token of appreciation. Sebela said that the money will help him feed his family, as his mother is not work-ing and they are a big family.

Major General Maggie Mathebu-la applaud Sebela for being brave and saving the men. She added that this is a sign that the police are not alone in fi ghting crime.

Seen in the photo above are Col Schalk van Schalkwyk(Maake Police commander), Maj Genl Mathebula, Mr Sipho Sebela and Mr Marothi Letsoalo (CPF Chair-person), at the handing over of the cheque to Sebela.

The Mediclinic Tzaneen adopts a school each year and funds the school according to their needs. This year the pupils of the Le-taba School for the Disabled in Nkowankowa were treated with a meal from the Mediclinic team.

The team donated 190 blankets, nappies, food parcels, medical supplies and a home cooked meal for the pupils. The school is currently struggling with funds.

The school has 203 pupils and all of them stay in the school’s hostels. Acting headmaster Ms Joey Truter explained that they are in need of food, wheelchairs, blankets and walking aids for the children. She added that they are thankful for what Mediclinic

Tzaneen has provided and they hope more organizations will also come forward to help them.

The 203 pupils showed their ap-preciation by singing a “Thank You” song for the Mediclinic team. The team helped in dish-ing up the meal they prepared, amongst them hospital manager Mr Zane Fanie. “The aim of this project is to assist schools and putting a smile on children’s fa-ces,” he said.

Fanie said they will follow up with renovating the Jungle gym at the school. They also visited the school’s hostel to identify the things that need attention.

Fresh leadershipLuke Perkins (DA Councillor), Haenerts-burg, writes: Those who still think of the DA as a “white party” should have been at the Limpopo Congress this past Saturday. The delegates refl ected in large measure the demographics of the Province.

The provincial leadership was contested; how refreshing to see a close election fought on the basis of merit, not colour, language, culture, gender or political favours, and without acrimony.

Helen Zille and Lindiwe Mazibuko ex-emplifi ed the leadership this nation needs and deserves. Dignifi ed and articulate, un-tainted by scandal, Mazibuko and Zille ad-dressed Congress on the road to 2014 and the need for Limpopo to extricate itself from its current fi nancial crisis.

The English language, long extinct in Limpopo and known only from the fossil record, was brought to life by Lindiwe who had the crowd on their feet with her eloquence and magnetic presence.

Congress was inspired by her detailed analy-sis of facts and fi gures from education and health care, where government policies have had disas-trous results, while those implemented by the DA are showing success.

With fresh Provincial leadership (Jacques Smal-le, Mpowele Swathe, Lindy Wilson and Naomi Phosa), and a strong national leadership, the DA is approaching 2014 with growing numbers, en-ergy and confi dence.

So, dink voor jy praat, “it may come back to haunt you”

FeedbackCllr. René Pohl, Box 482, Duiwelskloof, writes: It would be highly appreciated if you could publish the following information.

DA Caucus Leader Rene Pohl writes: Coun-cil meetings took place on 30 May 2012. The Mayor stated that Council have noted recent setbacks such as the appointment of the Mu-nicipal Manager, which has been reversed to ensure that Council complies with the relevant laws and regulations. The contracts of directors have also been advertised and will be fi lled as soon as possible. The court cases regarding Claude Wheatly Street and Sasekani-Muhlava road is not fi nalised yet.

The total revenue for the 2012/2013 fi nancial year amounts to R 833m. Property rates will increase with 5,8%, electricity with 11,03%, water , sanitation and solid waste each with 5,5%. The DA is impressed with the 17,1% of the total budget for repairs and maintenance if viewed against the budgets of other mu-nicipalities, although the ideal is 25%.

All tariff increases are within the guidelines

set by National Treasury. The DA approved the 2012/2013 budget on the condition that every project be linked to a specifi c amount in the bud-get, and that the water purifi cation system capac-ity increase in Ward 15 be included in the next fi nancial year.

The DA submitt ed a motion relating late notice of meetings which undermines good governance. Five sets of questions to be answered in writing were also submitt ed. It concerns the T-Mart Shop in Haenertsburg which is partly built on land not belonging to the business but to the SAPS, the Supply Chain Management, Talana Hostel, over-time payments, electricity as well as water and electricity tariff s for indigents, and lastly why the IDP projects prioritization wasn’t done on time. We referred the answers on the last issue back to Council because we were not satisfi ed with the answer. Yhe answer we received was in contra-diction to the Waste Management Department’s report and, not signed by any offi cial.

The DA believes in an independent political op-position which will hold the ruling party account-able at all times. I can be contacted at 079 8725 012. A Ward 15 Community meeting will also take place in June.

“If white South Africans did not hand land over to poor blacks, there could be land in-vasions like those that took place in Zimbab-we, the league warned.” In hul amptelike verklaring se die liga “The ANC must un-equivocally proclaim the need to expriopri-ate land without compensation ...”

e mine and jobsThe news of a new mine at Nkowankowa couldn’t have come at a bett er time.

The world economy is not healthy at all, South Africa’s economy has slowed down considerably, Limpopo’s economy is growing at snail’s pace and Tzaneen’s economy is currently on crutches.

We need a healthy injection, and a boost to employment in our part of the world will most certainly help a lot to improve the current bleak situation.

New jobs for 2 500 people will help to lift the depressed atmosphere to a new level that would stimulate economic ac-tivity.

We have news of further mining activity to be expected in our area. The important thing now is for the role players in the community to be sensible about the new developments. We shouldn’t fi ght about resources, such as water.

For the region and the province to be put on a new road to prosperity we need to take hands, talk to each other, accommo-date our common interests and avoid be-ing selfi sh and/or negative.

The striking workersWorkers have a right to strike, to march and to toyi-toyi. And so it should be.

However, if protesting workers can’t be-have and destroy property, they should be punished without any mercy shown.

The GTM’s workers on Wednesday and yesterday didn’t damage the GTM’s property (or their employer’s property), they damaged the community’s proper-ty. It is public property.

Punish them and stop this nonsense of people destroying property when they demonstrate their grievances.

When we pray, how do we prepare ourselves? Do we just rush into it or do we fi rst think about it? I oft en wonder myself, what I am going to pray about. Now it may a lot easier if I knew I was praying for a specifi c person or something that was concerning me.

When do I off er thanks to God, or do I just rush through a standard form of prayer? Prayers I learnt as a child oft en seem so simple, yet at the time they were a very eff ective way of training or teaching me the im-portance of prayer.

Jesus oft en prayed for others, as we can read in the scrip-tures, but He also prayed for Himself. This was a way of communicating with His and our Heavenly Father. Thus we know that God is listening, but it is also said that He knows our every need, so why should we pray.

In our daily lives we communicate with others, share our concerns, sometimes ask them a favour of two. We are too concerned as to the correctness of our commu-nication; is it in the right format? This is how we too should communicate with God. We need to tell Him how we feel our day is going, thank Him for His many blessings, just as we would thank someone for what they did for us. God is so special in our lives and wants to be involved in them at every moment, yet we oft en close Him out. He could force us to do His will but He never will, that is why He gave us a free will.

We must remember that we always receive some-thing back from God, somehow we are fulfi lled. Oft en we just feel relieved. So let us all pray more oft en, it does not matt er to God when we pray, there is no spe-cifi c times set down, it is all about communication with our Heavenly Father.

When Jesus died on the cross for us He gave us the right to speak directly to His Father, so let us use this right.

The ANC has suspended the Greater Giyani Municipality’s Ward 5 coun-cillor Erick Nkovani, the musician well-known as Penny-Penny. He sur-prised many people last year, when he contested for ward councillorship and won by a big margin.

The suspension came aft er an al-leged series of disagreement between him and the ANC. Penny-Penny con-fi rmed the suspension, but said he is still to receive charges with regard to his suspension.

“They said they would give me charges within seven days… but I am still waiting aft er much more than seven,” Penny-Penny told the Bul-letin, adding that he is still a ward councillor, and that he was only sus-pended from the ANC.

“I was surprised to receive a sus-pension lett er… maybe they made a mistake and it wasn’t meant for me. My only guilt could be my hard fi ght for service delivery,” he said.

The ANC’s regional secretary in Mopani, Mr Bricks Manzini, said Penny-Penny was suspended for “bringing the ANC into disrepute”’ He would, how-ever, not say a n y t h i n g m o r e , “since the

matt er was sub judice”.It is widely believed that some of

the charges that led to Penny-Penny’s suspension could have stemmed from his recent “outburst” at a fo-rum where the GGM’s IDP and draft budget were discussed with a view of fi nalising it.

In response to the GGM’s IDP Coordinator, Mr Louis Mabunda, who told the community that the 2012/2013 budget had no room for major projects due to the fact the province was still under administra-tion, Penny-Penny stood up and said “don’t lie to us”.

“I’m a ward councillor… let us not lie to each other. We, the residents of Giyani never ate the roads funds, they shouldn’t bluff us. To tell the truth, this municipality is being driven by certain people behind the scenes,” he had said.

He was applauded enthusiasti-cally by the majority of the people in att endance, when he went on to say “you’re the ones who elected us i n t o positions, yet we lie to you

because the municipali-ty is being driven by some people from elsewhere. We’re be-ing undermined as

ward councillors. They make us their bandits who come and lie to you on their behalf… every-thing they told

Many South Africans are too loyal to the ruling party, because they believe it is the only party that res-cued them from slavery. So said Mr Famanda Chavalala, the chief of Siyandhani village near Giyani.

He commented on the ruling party’s inability to resolve the issue of headmen’s salaries, at a meeting between headmen from Mopani and Vhembe and APC president Themba Godi. The meeting was aimed at discussing a way forward, aft er Limpopo’s government allegedly failed to increase headmen’s salaries by 15 April from R13 000 per annum to R71 000, as was promised.

“In the ANC, if you don’t do things like taking to the streets, they won’t hear you,” he said. He added that “the ANC is lucky that in Africa in general, we don’t have enough knowl-edge in the matt ers of politics.

“If you look at countries such as England, Britain and Ameri-ca, where people are well informed about poli-tics… if for in-stance, Obama would under-perform in one

term, he won’t be back for the next term, because they know politics.

“But here, just because we were told that the ANC is the party that rescued us from slavery, we concentrate on that only, forget-ting that the ANC was not alone in the fi ght for freedom,” he said.

Chavalala urged other head-men to “start teaching kids and everybody else that the ANC did not single-handedly rescue blacks from slavery” and that “there were parties and indivi-duals who took part in the free-dom fi ght.

According to Letsitele Police spokesman Const Ntsako Mabunda, it is alleged that the man, a citizen of Mozambique, was last seen on Mon-day while fishing at the farm dam. People with disabilities con-tinue to be seen as obstacles by their own communities, and as a burden to their families and friends. So said Ms Seveng-wane Nkuna, the chairperson of the health and social devel-opment cluster of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality.

Nkuna was addressing delegates at the Disability in Tzaneen. She said challenges facing people with disabili-ties persist despite govern-ment eff orts. “Although government has put legisla-tion, policy and programmes to champion the right of people living with disability, there are still obstacles.“

She added that the major-ity of people with disabilities could live independent and productive lives. “However, this can only happen if dis-abled people have access to resources, accessible environ-ments and information. As-sisting disabled people should not be seen as a privilege.

“Let it be known and un-derstood that facilitating access to opportunities for people with disabilities and promoting their rights, is not an act of charity nor a humanitarian gesture. It is a constitutional responsibility and economic imperative,” she said.

The event was att ended by diff erent disability forma-tions. Delegates also elected the disability council to act as an umbrella body. The coun-cil will interact with govern-ment institutions to ensure that the needs of disabled people are not overlooked.

Mr Jonas Mathebula was elected unopposed as the chairperson of the council. Mr Headman Mkharhi, the youth, gen-der and dis-ability offi cer in the offi ce of the GTM’s mayor, urged

disabled people to know their rights, saying their rights are equal to other peo-ple’s rights. He said the offi ce of the mayor is committ ed to double the government’s tar-get of having two percent of disabled people employed at public institutions.

Within six months of going into production at their new goat’s milk factory in Louis Trichardt (Makhado), Limpopo Dairy was crowned the best goat’s milk feta cheese producer in South Africa during the South African Dairy Champion-ships. Proudly displaying their award are in front, Ms San-netjie Tshiawelo (factory operator), Mr Len O’Linsky (factory manager), Ms Helma Mudzanani (factory assistant) and Mr Owen Machaba (cheese maker’s assistant). At the back are Messrs Joubert Fourie (Limpopo Dairy CEO) and Tobias Fou-rie (Limpopo Dairy director).

A cleaning company respon-sible for the cleaning services to the Mediclinic Tzaneen, has been promising people work if they volunteer for four days. It is alleged that Tshebo Clean-ing Company manager Ms Mmathapelo Makoro hired four cleaners and told them that if they volunteer for four days, they will be hired permanently.

According to one of the vol-unteers, she volunteered for four days in April and there-aft er she kept on working for about fi ve weeks.

The volunteer then went to Ms Makoro to inform her that she will not be able to report for duty, because she does not have money to buy a bus icket. She added that Ms Makoro also told them that aft er four days of volunteering some of the clean-ers will be transferred to Phala-borwa Mediclinic.

However, Ms Makoro told the Bulletin that the volunteers

came to her offi ce looking for a job and she told them that the company does not have money to pay them. The vol-unteers then told her that they just wanted extra training. “We only allow people to volunteer for four days, and we never promised any of the volunteers that they will get a job.”

Tshebo has been render-ing a service to the Mediclinic Tzaneen over the past three years and their contract will be extended in July.

The Mediclinic Tzaneen’s hos-pital manager, Mr Zane Fanie, explained that the company has been providing a great service to the hopsital. He added that Ms Makoro conveyed to the volun-teers the situation about working for four days very clearly. Unfor-tunately it was a verbal agree-ment and Fanie urged Tshebo to a have writt en agreement to avoid such situations.

During the past weekend the Ritavi police enjoyed great success in apprehending nu-merous criminals in the area.

A total of 27 off enders were arrested for various crimes. Twelve people were taken into custody for drinking in public, while two were ar-rested for being in posses-sion of dangerous weapons and one for the possession of dagga. Five cases of assault

were att ended to and one manl was arrested for crimen injuria. Three off enders in connection with theft , one for rape and one in possession of suspected stolen property were also put behind bars.

The Ritavi police are still looking for suspects involved in two murders. The fi rst vic-tim was Ms Florah Ndaheni Manganyi (68), who was bru-tally assaulted and killed.

R15 000 is off ered to anyone who can assist with informa-tion regarding the case.

In another case Mr Amos Maakana (41) of Dan village was shot and killed near his home. R10 000 is off ered for in-formation in connection with this case. Contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or Lt Col Smith on 082 4517 156 or D/W/O Baloyi on 083 583 0749 or the Ritavi SAPS on 015 303 8000.

The Letaba School for the Disabled in Nkowankowa is facing a food crisis. The school will be serving the last meals for the chiuldren tonight, unless something miraculous happens.

The chairman of the school’s governing body, Mr Raymond Mabuza, explained that they are still waiting for the govern-ment subsidy and the delay is caused by the fact that some of Limpopo’s depart-ments are still under administration. He said that the government promised to do

a payment before the end of this week. “It is only our school that is waiting for funds, but at the moment there is no cri-sis,” Mabuza said.

Mr John Eastes, the school’s headmaster, had no comment. Mr Ike Thema of the Limpopo Premier’s offi ce, did not answer his phone and did not come back to us af-ter we had left three messages for him to call us.

Resistance training is an area of fitness which sadly gets neglected due to age, gender and ability. The truth is that along with a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle, resistance training is your general between the troops against ill-ness and fat-weight gain. A common myth of resistance training is that women will “bulk up” when performing resistance training. This is false, as it has been proven that the ave-rage woman could only benefit from it. On average women who don’t do strength training could lose 0,23 kg of muscle per year which impacts metabolism severely. Example: Susan is 30 years old and weighs 54 kg with a body-fat percentage of 20%, which means she has 11 kg of fat weight and 44 kg lean weight. If Susan would weigh the same at 50, but didn’t do resistance training, she would’ve lost 4,5 kg of muscle and gained 4,5

kg in fat weight (if same diet and lifestyle was followed). The increase in body fat would also impact her appearance, fitness and health. Fortunately a basic resistance exercise program can reverse the situ-ation with proven stu-dies that several weeks of resistance training could result in an increase of 1,4 kg in muscle and a loss of 1,8 kg in fat weight.

Vossies wen vierde jaar!

The u.12A netball team of Unicorn Preparatory School in Tzaneen qualified for the Limpopo Championships that were played in Polok-wane on Saturday.
