ECUADOR NEWS

ECUADOR PRESENTS A TRADE AGREEMENT PROPOSALFOR DEVELOPMENT TO CANADA

Vice minister of foreign trade, Francisco Rivadeneira, presented a model of Trade Agreement for Development to the Canadian Government, specifically to Louis Lévesque, sub-secretary of International Commerce. According to information from the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry, this document is an undergo-ing study by the American country for a possible round of negotiations. The main products exported from Ecuador to Canada are flowers, shrimp, banana and gold, while the national imports are concentrated in wheat, industrialized products and paper printing. The export sector points out that the Trade Agreement with Canada is of outmost importance for foreign sales, and more even when Colombia already has Trade Agreement, which means that Bogota products are more likely to enter the market by the competitive advantages and the reduction of tariffs that involves having a trade agreement. This approach seeks to deepen the binational relations, which so far have been "positive", de-clares the Chancery, by what is expected a Canadian investment of $1 billion in the next five years, especially in the new airport of the capital which is expected its inauguration next Oc-tober. Eduardo Ledesma, President of the Exporters Association, said that since few months, exports of fruit to Canada are made without tariffs, which helps compete against Colombian products. According to exporters, they expect to trade directly and not through the United States, coun-try which currently receives the fruit and then re-exports it to Canada. Exporters are anticipating that the Government’s policy of diversification of markets will be supported with improvements in competitiveness and logistics, allowing access to consoli-dated and new markets with best prices and in less time. It is expected that in the coming months there will be advances in terms of commercial ap-

proach with Asian and Middle East countries, which are qualified as target markets.

CANADA NEWS CANADA PERFORMS FIRST ECOLOGICAL

FLIGHT SUCCESSFULLY

The aircraft uses mixed equal parts of common aviation fuel along with a biofuel obtained by recycling cooking oil. The airline said in a statement that the mixture, developed by the company SkyNRG, "has been certified to the normal standards of reactor fuel and can be used safely without modifying the aircraft systems". To obtain the maximum reductions, the AC991 from Toronto to Mexico City also has optimized routing and flight altitude. In agreement with ATC authorities, AC991 will fly the most direct route, using the most efficient vertical flight profile and applying a Continuous Descent Approach (CDA) into Mexico City to save fuel and limit noise. Air Canada said that "the flight, with the support of Airbus, will connect with other flights with biofuels from Canada to Rio de Janeiro established under the auspices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to underline the commit-ment of the aviation sector with the environment in the Sustainability Conference in the UN".

Air Canada anticipated the A319 air-craft flight between Toronto and Mexico to be the greenest flight ever made by the airline.
