PRINCIPAL’S NOTE

I am pleased to present to you the Bunbury Senior High School Contributions and Charges for 2018. The information in this booklet outlines all the costs associated with sending your child to this school. Bunbury Senior High School is committed to keeping costs to a minimum whilst maintaining an interesting and engaging curriculum that provides equitable access to all students. All costs outlined in this booklet are approved by the school Finance Committee and School Board in accordance with the School Education Act 1999. The booklet also outlines the assistance that is available to parents and the eligibility requirements that enable you to access this assistance. All parents will receive a personal invoice for each of their children enrolled at this school. If you believe this invoice to be incorrect you should contact the Accounts Staff on 9781 2500. Schools rely heavily on parents meeting their commitments in respect to these contributions and charges. Our capacity to continue to provide students with the consumables that enable us to present a quality curriculum is directly affected by your commitment to meeting these contributions and charges. Some optional courses have a higher charge based on the cost of consumables for that course. Parents who are unable to meet the costs at commencement of the school year are encouraged to contact the Manager Corporate Services to make an arrangement for payment throughout the year. Thank you for your support of your child’s education at Bunbury Senior High School. CRAIGE PETTIT PRINCIPAL

2018 SECONDARY ASSISTANCE SCHEME General Information The West Australian Department of Education provides an allowance to assist eligible families with secondary schooling costs. To be eligible for the allowance the parent/guardian must hold a Centrelink or Veterans Affairs card that represents a statement of income for the family. The allowance consists of two components:

$115 Clothing allowance paid directly to the parent/guardian or the school.

$235 Educational Program Allowance paid directly to the school. Application is made by the parent or guardian for student/s enrolled in Years 7-12 at a secondary school. Eligibility Criteria Parent or guardian must hold one of the following cards:

Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card

Centrelink Family Health Care Card

Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card Please Note: the only Veterans’ Affairs Card that meets the criteria is a blue card that is issued annually and expires in December each year. This card is income means tested. The parent/guardian must be the holder of a card that is valid some time during first term. The only exception to this is when a student holds their own health care card and has been declared independent by Centrelink (eg living away from home). In this instance, a letter of confirmation from Centrelink needs to accompany the application. The allowance is paid up to and including the year the student turns 18 years of age.

An application form is enclosed for your convenience.

Applications close 13 April, 2018 Late Applications Late applications will not be accepted unless the student has recently arrived from interstate or overseas and enrolled after the end of first term.

Contributions and Charges Schools will receive the Educational Program Allowance of $235 for approved recipients. In the first instance this amount will be paid directly to the school to reduce voluntary contributions in Years 7-10 and the course charges in Years 11 and 12. Clothing Allowance The clothing allowance of $115 will be paid to the parent/guardian unless indicated on the application form that you wish it to be paid to the school. If payment to the parent/guardian is requested, the payment will be deposited into the parent/guardians bank account. Processing of Payments Once the form is completed by the parent/guardian, the school will forward applications to the School Resourcing and Budgeting Directorate for processing. If you change any of your details supplied on the application form please notify the school as soon as possible on 9781 2500.

OTHER APPROVED CHARGES – VOLUNTARY The following optional charges also appear on student Contribution and Charges sheets Health Centre The Bunbury Senior High School’s Health Centre is staffed by a registered Community Child and School Health nurse. The school health nurse is positioned four days per week. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own health and as such can access the first aid supplies which are available to treat minor injuries the same as they would at home. Any serious concerns will be treated by the nurse or a trained first aid person in their absence. Services tailored for adolescent students at Bunbury Senior High School include: Health assessments and the provision of information, advice, referral and support for students. The support provided encourages the development of knowledge, skills and behavior, and encourages the young person to cope with their health issue(s) and make healthy lifestyle choices. You are invited and encouraged by the school to contribute a voluntary levy of $2.00 towards these resources thereby allowing the quality care provided to continue. Kingia Magazine Year Book The cost of the school year book is $20.00. You will be asked if you want to order one at the time you pay your child’s Contributions and Charges. The book is printed and distributed and the end of each year and contains photos and stories from current year. Voluntary Chaplaincy Donation The school is privileged to have a chaplain as part of its pastoral care team. The chaplain acts as an advocate for students and liaises with parents, staff and external agencies to support positive outcomes for students. As the chaplain is not a teacher, some students may feel more comfortable in approaching the chaplain when they need someone to talk to. It is not Department of Education policy to pay the salaries of chaplains. Funds for this service are raised by donations from the school, local churches and parent donations. The school also contributes to this cost. We would be grateful if you could donate $30.00 or any amount you think appropriate to the chaplaincy fund as this will assist in maintaining this valuable service. Technology cost Print Quotas The charge is designed to ensure that use of printers in the school is carefully managed and to encourage students to use print resources wisely. The charge covers the cost of consumables. Quota Levels All students in the school will be allocated a base number of pages of printing (above normal curriculum needs). When students exceed the quota a further compulsory charge will be required to access further printing.

7

SENIOR SCHOOL COURSES AND CHARGES Under the Education Act Regulations, all courses for senior school students are considered to be charges and are thus compulsory. There is no established maximum charge; however, the school has endeavoured to keep the costs as low as possible. Some courses will require the purchase of textbooks as an additional cost and these have been detailed in this booklet and the Contributions and Charges invoice enclosed in this package.

ACCIDENT AND PERSONAL INSURANCE

The Department of Education does not provide accident insurance, including ambulance cover for students injured at school. Parents are encouraged to take out their own personal accident cover for their child. The exception is overnight excursions and parents will be advised of the extent of insurance cover at the time of the excursion. The Department of Education does not provide property insurance for students personal items - Students are not encouraged to bring valuables to school. The school does provide students with lockers. Students are required to provide their own lock.

STUDENT DIARIES $5.00 Diaries will be issued to all students on the first school day of 2018. The diary contains interesting and helpful information in relation to their education program at Bunbury Senior High School
