CMS Software and options of 3G access
What does a complete mobile surveillance system look like?
CCTV Camera
VANDAL DOME CAMERA
o Used in areas prone to vandalism and tampering
o Such a camera with IR/Night Vision is fitted into the bus for all day surveillance
CCTV Camera
Mobile DVR
o Also known as MDVR, mobile digital video recorder

o CMS stands for Central Monitoring System
oSoftware that communicates with MDVR of vehicle
oIntegrated to Google maps
oProvides latest position of vehicle
CMS Application
allows the vehicle to automatically connect to the office Wi-Fi network

School Buses and Surveillance
Features of Bus Surveillance
oAutomatic Duress or Tamper Notification
Real time tracking
o Live observation and listening
Scope for intervention
Cost effective
o Duress switches can be pressed in case of emergency
o This will send out an SMS or mail with still images attached
o Notifies control room to dispatch help or take necessary action
o Also notifies if equipment had been tampered with
Automatic Duress or tamper notification
o CCTV surveillance is coupled with GPS tracking of the bus
o Enables location to be embedded with camera footage
o Surveillance becomes very effective
Real time tracking
Before any help can be dispatched, passengers must be guided on how to handle the situation till then
DVRM has two way audio This assists in communication between the
supervisors in control room and passengers They can issue commands to the students
or driver to alleviate the situation
Scope for intervention
Camera Placement
How Many Cameras? The number of cameras
is usually prioritized by desired system results and available budgets.
Recent trending is that most agencies have 5 to 6 cameras per 40’ vehicle installation.
1 or 2 cameras are used for outside viewing of the vehicle.
Additional considerations
Lens Considerations
Camera lens sizes vary from 2.9MM to 16MM
Proper lens selection provides investigators with recorded images that have good proximity for image objects and good field of view.
For inside the cabin (4,5 & 7) lens sizes are usually 6MM or 8MM. Stairwells (6 & 2) usually are 4MM.
Outside cameras can vary depending upon application with considerations including license plate recognition, grade level crossings and intersection traffic.
